World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

I've never had to get a replacement monitor/pc part ever before I think

When exactly will Dell collect the one I have had issue with? They delivered the replacement last Friday and I've heard nothing
They send another email, took them a week or 2 to do it for me…

Edit

I just had a look back through the emails and they sent out an email on the same day they despatched the replacement.

We have processed the request for the Dell replacement monitor, and it will be the exact same specification as the original order. The estimated date of delivery is … and the old monitor would also be collected on ….

Vrr flicker is dependant on the PC config. If you can hold a steady framerate without large fps fluctuations, you'll report the monitor has little to no vrr flicker. Some with a different set up that struggles to keep steady frames will report the opposite. This is why its most obvious during load screens, were fps really bounce around.

I would really like to see the difference between the DW and DWF with vrr flicker. When the early adopters were reporting VRR flicker didn't exist on the DW as the gsync module fixed it (i even gave advice of a test which would reveal the issue in seconds), I bought one and was really disappointed to quickly find it did (I already owned OLED screens for years and vrr flicker was my only disappointment) . However, it does seem to be less than my LG (just not sure if that's due to 4k being harder on framerate fluctuations). Would like an apple to apple comparison as I do suspect it is reducing the affect.
Since going 4090 I've noticed this yeah, VRR flicker is only an issue in poorly optimised games now where teh fps can drop below 100fps in dark scenes. otherwise I don't even notice it any more lol.

New monitor arrived today, not a refurb, came in retail sealed packaging. they now include a microfibre cloth and the protective sheet on the panel has imagery showing spray fluid on teh cloth then wipe the panel to remove marks etc.

My revision is A03 btw and was manufactured in August 2023, the revision I had was A03 made in August 2022 if I recall. The firmware version is M0B204, so a big firmware bump too as the old one was on *102.

Not shabby!

No Freesync version? Shame.

I could easily get my first replacement seeing you are on your 4th. But I am genuinely happy with what I have so can't be asked. Will look for any issues with a magnifying glass in a year's time when my 3 year warranty is getting close to expiring :p

If they send me a brand new unit like yiy I will probably just sell it and go 4K 32" OLED which should be out by then.

@mrk Did you get similar email?

Your replacement monitor is now being prepared for shipment. Please be aware that you must have your old monitor ready for exchange at the time of delivery. The monitor needs to be dismounted from its' base / stand and all cables disconnected where applicable.
If your old monitor is not ready for exchange then the courier will not proceed with the delivery and will return the next business day to attempt the exchange. In total 3 attempts will be made by the courier to deliver the item on consecutive working days, thereafter the shipment returns to sender. If the replacement monitor is not delivered within the 3 attempts and is still required, a new service dispatch will need creating.

I notice VRR flicker mainly just on certain windows of grey, usually 5% grey e.g. xbox gamepass or geforce now. Never really noticed it during gaming with low fps except when dark grey/black scenes.

DW not DWF! The fan on this is quieter than the old one too so I guess they've adjusted the fan curve or something.I shall stick with the ultrawide vs selling and going 16:9 :p

No I just got a couple of emails from UPS saying shipment on the way, and Dell's own emails were just confirming that the service request has been put into action etc. Just like before the UPS guy will arrange a collection for the old one in a few days.

How does it work if you don’t have the old box for the monitor to be sent back?

Just send it back in the new one's box

4K is life!

I can always do a custom resolution for certain games and go 21:9 for those due to OLED blacks. Won't be often so I doubt it would be harmful on the display either.

I'd feel dirty if I ever went back to 16:9 :p

I will feel reborn! :p

I kid. I am not that bothered. I just need it to be 2160p. As 1440p is just potato and has been for a while now.

I would be torn between a 32" 4K 16:9 and a 34" 5160x2160 Alienware if prices were the same.

First pixel refresh dialogue and noticed that the dialogue is a new style with revised wording etc:

I wonder if the algorithm has changed too.

The issue around vrr flicker is due to near black raising the further from native the screen is. Eg, if your game is running at a steady 60-70, you won't see flicker but your near black will be raised. LG have a setting to help mitigate the issue. Eg I can only average 90 fps at 4k on CP2077, so I can fine tune near black to -4 to correct the gamma shift. I really hope Dell include something similar with future models, especially if 4k as a lot more games will struggle for near native fps.

Ok so I've noticed that the fans now fully power off (edit* after a short while) when putting the monitor into standby, previous A03 did not do this whether eco was on or off. I've also noticed that since my work laptop is connected via HDMI, that when in standby mode and the fans turn off, it disconnects the HDMI connection and then the laptop thinks no monitor is connected until the monitor is powered on again. Don't recall it doing this before. This means that now the internal clock timer should in theory behave for actual power hours used, as before it would continue the clock even when in standby mode and if 4 hours had elapsed since the last power on from standby, then it would [prompt for a new pixel refresh.

Edit 2*
Also now when you manually press the power button to turn it off, a dialogue pops up with a more detailed text and options like the pixel refresh screen, as opposed to just kicking right off into pixel refresh if one was due. Think this is a bit different to before.

I've also received brand new replacement, also fresh - August 2023 with MOB204 firmware. Fans are quiter compared to 'launch edition'. Very happy with Dell service.
Will my service tag refresh automatically for warranty?
