World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Faults like lines of dead pixels, Half the screen going black, Terrible flicker etc... everyone I personally know with a DW is on their 3rd or 4th unit.

As for the DWF, The latest firmware fixed the HDR, Only real notable differences between the 2 models now is the G-Sync module being replaced with Freesync Premium Pro and 10Hz lower.

I do think the DW was really beta hardware due to it being the first QD-OLED which is why I never got one.

Ah yeah, there were some with those reports, I think that would have been more down to the panel/initial batches rather than anything specific to the gsync module though tbf.

I'm still on my first from when it was released.

DW is a great monitor no doubt but I have to agree with Hardware Unboxed's video from June, Given the choice the DWF especially with the latest firmware is a no brainer compared to the DW as the only real world difference now is a G-Sync module and 10Hz while being £200 more expensive. If it was the same price yeah sure but £200 for 10Hz and a G-sync module that you'll never be able to tell the difference compared to the latest implementation of VRR ? No thanks, I'd rather pocket the £200 :D

I would be interested to see the VRR flicker in a direct comparison first before deciding if I would be happy to switch to the DWF, as it is, we only really have pcmonitors.info to go by (who is arguably one of the best monitor reviewers along side tftcentral) as I do notice the vrr flicker when low fps in dark/5% grey kind of scenes on the dw and it's less noticeable with 144hz mode so if it was much more noticeable, I wouldn't want to switch. Thankfully I got my DW for like £650 though after all the cashback and discount codes :D But yes, if buying new and one is £200 cheaper, I wouldn't say it would be worth it now that HDR issue is mostly fixed.

Holy crap that's amazing, You got 1 hell of a deal.

I'd say for both DW and DWF owners it wouldn't be worth swapping to the opposite, It would be a total side grade for no real world difference.

Would be nice to see a direct comparison between the two with vrr flicker as that is something that really annoys me with OLED and if dwf is slightly worse than its a no go even for 200 cheaper. I also thought the hdr was mostly fixed, didn't realise it was 100%.
Tbh i don't give too much weight to the online reviews of new screens and take most opinion with a grain of salt as they often completely miss obvious to the eyes issues and over report way smaller ones. Eg every reviewer missed vrr raised blacks when vrr first came to OLED. Really still boggles my mind as I noticed it within seconds. If the flicker is slightly worse on the dwf, it wouldn't surprise me if most the reviewers wouldn't notice.

Yup, was like 4-5 discount codes and then cashback, I think a good chunk of us on here got it for a similar price or slightly more than I paid.

Didn't someone on here say that the blacks are ever so slightly raised with 144hz over 175hz too? It may have been you :p

Lol yes ever so slightly at 144hz. It is way more noticeable at 60 which is where the reviewers had to use the screens as 120hz was only available with HDMI 2.1 and the first 2.1 graphics cards didn't release until a year later.

For those who bought the DWF, How long after you bought it did it actually turn up at your door ?

My delivery date changed from tomorrow to the end of November, Oh well I have a 24" 1080P panel to tide me over :D

This monitor is not compatible with HDMI 2.1...

Frankly, I would prefer Samsung G8 over DWF - it has no fans and has DSC, so 175Hz@10bit. The downside is horrible support compared to Dell and no burn-in warranty.

That said, it is pretty embarrassing that monitor is the loudest part of the rig...(yes, even the brand new DW, even though much quieter than launch one, is the loudest part of my rig)

Sorr, I was talking about reviewers missing the vrr issue when vrr first came to OLED which was the LG c9. It uses hdmi 2.1 for 120hz, so for nearly a year you could only run it at 60 as no hdmi 2.1 cards were out yet. The vrr near black raise is obvious at 60, yet all the reviewers missed it.

Ah ok - you got me confused a little ;)
Near black issue is also a problem with 120Hz, but little less pronounced.
Generally, we need microled with some new controllers that can handle gamma change on the fly. Slap on 360Hz and only then we will be in end game territory :) still a long way to go - but before that I would be happy with 240Hz qd-oled 38" 1600p UW - hope we will get it at some point in 2024.

Dunno about end game :D I still miss features from crt such as resolution scaling - anything other than native takes a big pq hit in the flat screen era + motion is still worse and needs far higher framerate to feel as smooth eg below 60 is still very nice on crt but flat screens really suffer below 60. Maybe 240+ with bfi could make that difference (just means higher gpu requirements for the same perceived motion)
