***World of Warcraft : Warlords of Draenor***

I had no problems apart from a large queue on release.

2004: Azeroth Opens For Business

World of Warcraft

It all started on November 23rd, 2004. Amidst server outages and a very laggy experience, Azeroth opened its doors to a flood with World of Warcraft’s release. I love the blank stares I get from many WoW players who try new MMO’s now. I tell them not to be so critical about new games like The Secret World or TERA. I reflect on my experiences back when I signed up and started playing World of Warcraft on February 2nd, 2005. I tell them how many current features were not there and how every day we got to play was almost like a miracle. I’m looking at my account history right now and there are so many free days added to my play time due to server outages that would last 12 hours up to a couple days. Today people freak out about weekly maintenance. Back in 2004 and 2005, we freaked out about not being able to play for days and this was common!

WoW had a very troublesome launch year. Although, the content never stopped rolling out. Sure, we had a lot of issues back then with server stability and class balance (way more so than now)

People need to stop with the "this is the worst launch ever". Even BC was more problematic than WoD a week in.

People seem to remember vanilla pretty differently to what it actually was and seem to treat it like it was the golden age. In reality it was buggy, full of issues and required plenty of grinding to get anywhere. It was good but not as great as people make out that it was. The launch was shambolic at best and having experienced that and TBC launch the current launches are just annoyances at best.

I remember getting stuck mining nodes around Ironforge. Destruction Warlock is not great to play any more, in PVP you are a stationery turret with nothing to combat melee with. In PVE you are ok as long as you don't have to move. Not sure about other specs.

Gah, guessing i will be changing class then :(

I'm not saying there weren't problems with the servers. I can also remember periods where it went pear shaped seemingly night after night. The difference being, these problems weren't centred around day one. They were happening on and off during vanilla, independent of launch.

The author of the above piece mentions problems over 2004 and 2005 (I.e. by checking his free days, some a year after release) as well as relying on his memory, which apparently I'm not allowed to do.

This had been the worst launch for me by far, I didn't start playing Vanilla till august 05 so missed out on that launch but given they totally underestimated the numbers I'm not surprised there were problems.

All the other launches went fairly well for me, I didn't play TBC on the first day until after school but with the rest I went right through to top level in under a day without much problem, I remember WOTLK having a lot of lag when we were attempting 3 drakes. This time round I didn't hit top level until Friday afternoon simply because the game was 100% unplayable at times.

Since the issues were largely sorted I'm really enjoying the expansion but the news that they're making group loot the default in PUGs again is one of the most bird-brained ideas Blizzard has come out with in a long time.

If you had no issues at release you are the only person to say this, Even the devs said that the launch was horrible due to the all issues.

I said (and I quote) "I'm not saying there weren't problems", to which you reply "if you had no issues at release". Is there even a point to putting down words that get misinterpreted a mere one post after they were written? :p

Not every server was the same at release and certainly Spinebreaker wasn't continuously terrible.

I also had no issues when vanilla was released. Managed to avoid most of the issues with this expansion as well. Just some lag and queues last weekend.

I have played since beta and aside from Vanilla, this is without question the most problematic launch to date, however most of it is quite excusable considering an additional 2,500,000 people showed up, I think they have done a great job of getting things on rack, and a bonus 5 days game time is compensation enough for me for he issues.

The worst parts of the TBC launch IMO were shammy/pala tier dropping in BWL for ally/filth the week before when nobody could use them, and that quest in Terrokar that told you to go east when the mobs you wanted were west.

I do not have the patience for alts so I stick with it but yeah not good. Destro is still the highest DPS spec for PVE according to usual sites like Noxxic but we have no instant cast spells any more (bar conflag which has 2 charges) so when you have to move you are relying on quick casts and immolate.

Thought Gladiator was top ATM?

EDIT: http://www.noxxic.com/wow/dps-rankings

I asked this in guild chat and someone said Gladiator DPS is because of simcrafts patchwork fights, although in battlegrounds and dungeons if there's a gladiator they're usually always top for damage. People are asking for ferals to be nerfed but honestly outside of their burst damage they aren't all that, die quickly, waiting around for energy a lot, bleeds are pretty much useless now.
