***World of Warcraft : Warlords of Draenor***

A lot of MMO's are generally stable with 500k to 1mil subs, so I think WoW is pretty safe in that sense, it just comes down to if Blizzard/Activision are happy with that level of profit.

Well they've shown they dont really have to put a whole lot of content into the game for it to still generate money, and I still think they need to release regional subscription figures. But they have far bigger cash cows under the blizzard umbrella (for the amount of $ they have to spend developing the IP) in HS and HotS.

Not really playing much now but my sub is still active, I've enjoyed this expansions but I think my best has still been WOTLk. Then again thats probably when I raided most tbf, there was only a few of us come back to have a look at WoD, theres 2 of us left and we dont really do much other than run thru old content haha. Still farming for my last binding for the windseeker :(

Just having a look at this token shenanigans, £15 from the store, for a month of gametime? And theyre currently sitting at 42326G on my server (Im not sure if it's based on economy).

I know Eve have had something similar for quite a while now and I was wondering if with that there also such a huge price diffrerence between an actual month and the thing you buy to sell for in game cash, just screams of milking to me

I dunno I can see the benefits.
Think of two specific people this helps:
* People who would usually buy gold from gold sellers can now in affect buy it from Blizzard, spend 15 quid and get 40,000 gold (although ofcourse the price will drop over time), I dont know how much gold sellers are selling for these days but this cuts down the chance of blizzard banning your account!

* People who do play a lot more then casual can have some tangible reward by basically playing for free if they put in the time and effort. Back when I was a student or had a stint of unemployment that would have pleased me greatly.

So in effect theres finally a way to reward regular players, and it could cut down gold selling spam! That could, knock on effect down the line, put some sellers out of business, and cut down on account hacking for gold!
IE this step has made your game more secure :p

Having just had a quick look. On my server on Horde gold is 50k for £15. I am not 100% sure it will put people off of buying gold still, Infact it may have just made it easier for the gold sellers to make money by allowing them to buy a monthly sub in game.

Hmms thats an interesting point! I hadnt considered that. That would save a lot of their overheads hehe.

But they'll never be able to make any profit.

If they buy a token and sell it for gold, say 40k then they'll never be able to sell 40k for more than £15. Maybe they could transfer it to another server where a token makes less but it's not going to vary enough to make it worthwhile.

They're probably paying someone 1p an hour to grind/steal accounts for gold.

I think (in theory) this will cut down gold sellers.

I thought the Token price was across all servers, not server specific?

Tokens are the same across zones (US/EU/China/Korea). So the price of your token is the same across all of Europe.

Sadly when it comes to WoW, Europe includes Russia. This is largely why the gold price of tokens is way higher than it should be. Check https://twitter.com/WoWTokens for updates. (or just https://twitter.com/WoWTokenEU)

Yeah i noticed EU was way higher, also I'm slightly upset you can't purchase a game token with gold once your subscription runs out :P

I think you have misunderstood. I dont think they will buy a token and sell it but buy a token with the gold they have farmed and use it for game time therefore removing that £8.99 overhead for what may be potentially a few hours work for them.

Hmmm, how does one go about doing this, I had a look but couldn't work out how.
Log in to the game, highlight a toon above lvl 20 and you should get the option to activate the account using gold, but it will only appear if you have all the gold on that server, and only if there is a token for sale.
It won't appear if you have the gold spread across multiple servers.

Ah thanks for that, I was looking on the b.net for it :P

At least I know i can come back for a month when 6.2 comes, see if it can hold me for a while.

Just cancelled my sub again. Such a shame but there simply isn't enough to do keep me interested any more. I agree with others here and loved the WotLK expansion and this hasn't been anywhere near as good imo
