***World of Warcraft : Warlords of Draenor***

Why is everyone so surprised that an MMO had a bad launch?

This is more than expected IMO.

It's not just any MMO though, it's the most successful MMO with billions of dollars of cash at its disposal and with over 10 years experience having released 5 expansions in total and yet servers are behaving like it was 2004 launch again.

10 hour queues on Kazzak, unable to migrate due to in-game mail bugs, basically can't play at all, and worst of all I'm not even playing the draenor content yet.

While I wait I'm trying to work out which class to play and on which server. Is there any benefit to playing on a high pop server as opposed to a merged realm? I have no idea how it all works these days but would prefer the game to be a bit livelier in terms of people logged in.

Biggest MMO company... Known number of preorders... Not properly tested RE garrison phasing... **** poor really, when you think of the cost of the expansion (which has gone up for WoD) and the monthly sub.

It is literally only the garrison area causing issues. It is the only failing here so far. You cannot expect any company to invest in hardware or infra that wont be required in less than 2 months time... it just doesnt make any business sense

I get what you are saying... it wont be needed in a few months time. But the garrison is a bottle neck in the system... better distribution of load and better game design (non-linear questing)... would have eased this issue.

But its not though, is it?

That might be the only problem you have experienced.

There are a good 100k+ people in Europe (and I imagine that number is massively higher, I'm going with a hugely conservative estimate) trying to log on.

I did make it on at about 12pm, Draenor as a whole was completely unplayable.

I could not join instances.

I could not hearthstone.

"Its only the Garrison area" - no.

I agree that I'm not expecting Blizzard to shell out money for servers that are going to become redundant in two months when user levels drop down to normal levels. I would however expect them to attempt to mitigate user frustration in other ways, including financial compensation. Instead we are given the same old "unforseen demand" horse**** that has been rolled out everytime they have ever launched something - in all honesty if the guys doing your planning haven't figured out launch day is going to be busy then they probably need a shotgun to the temple.

How do you know they won't give financial compensation though? Its the first 2 days of release, give it time. Holy **** people are so touchy about MMO/Expansion launches. And are you really saying that people should kill themselves because of a bad expansion launch? ****ing pathetic.

I logged on this morning (0800) and all was good for about 2 hours, after that it was pretty much unplayable again, the Garrisons didn't and the lagg was so bad I don't think I saw an NPC in hours. During the 'good' period I really enjoyed it but it needs to be sorted asap.

Anyway when I got back this evening I tried logging on but the queue :( it's been an hour so far and the estimate now is 589 minutes ! It's taking me way longer to level due the problems as I'd normally hit max level on the first day. It's 2 days now and I'm only half way to it :(

Are you really suggesting he is serious when he says they should kill themselves...

Wonder if they'll end up locking them for a couple of days claiming that they're adversely affecting log in queues:p

I swear to god I'm like some sort of Futurologist. The forums have gone pop!:D

Back up now :p
