Would you SLAP your child..?

They should be taken out - its fine if they do the work elsewhere. But as you say, it sickens me to know the government have to spend money and resources on crap like this because they cant see any other alternative. People who cause misery and frustration in our world shouldn't get the easy way out - and they shouldn't have the right to take more of the governments money.

Yeah i can see this point of view as well. The problem is its not seen as a good thing to just leave them in a seperate room. The activities are meant to find an alternative to stimulate them.

A friend of mine actually works for them and he is a ***-hot guitarist and serious rock-star type, long hair and tattoos etc. He met up with one of these kids who was a total nightmare and had no home life to speak of. He started teaching him to play the guitar and has basically turned his life around just through someone actually spending some time with him. His behaiour has improved dramatically and he has turned out to be a really talented guitarist. He is a success story and the time and money invested in him is way less then it would have cost if his inevitable downward spiral had continued and he had ended up getting sent away.

Conversly though if you are a student who works hard and you are seeing the destructive kid getting free guitar lessons from a really cool guy i can see why you would be hacked off!

To be fair,

In one way you're correct.

In another way schooling thats forced is delivered incorrectly.

While at university I was more "worried" not getting my essay in and it being pap than any bit of work I did at school.

Well at school I did find homework at school to be too forced due to the possibility of detentions. Also, I hated not being able to talk in class etc and sometimes sitting in retarded boy/girl seating orders. I think I worried as much about school work at the time as I now do or did about college/Uni work.

The fact is school indulged my anixeties about getting work done too much and I should have listened to some of my friends more and slacked off.

Ha! Yup That's the whole point really. Id kill for some free guitar lessons to be honest.

For the most part, fair enough but its only the kids who misbehave that get the choice to learn differently.

Plenty of kids sit in classrooms quietly and try to work but would be benefiting just as much as the chav would, but they don't get the chance because chavs get the priority.

Yes, from that perspective I see your point.

But thats the fault of the school.

TBH. My daughter is 8 and I hate the amount of homework she has.

She gets to much.

Being a kid is over to quick!

Well, yes, exactly. I think the work load should be reduced as everyone has the rest of their extremely boring lives to work so I need no benefit in too much being applied at too young an age.

This thread is seriously derailed now (which was inevitable) but oh well.

Thats where the whole problem lies and why its not a black and white issue. Im pleased that my mate managed to make such a difference in the childs life and that the child will hopefully go on to make a decent contribution to society when otherwise he would most probably end up in jail.

However as long as it is percieved as rewarding bad behaviour it will never really catch on.

The fact is 30 years ago that kid would just have been belted for bad behaviour, which equally could have prevented him from being a disruptive influence in the classroom. Maybe it would have nipped his bad behaviour in the bud or maybe he would just have gone off the rails later, who knows?

I dont think there is one blanket solution. I have ideas as to why the education system is flawed but that would just take the thread totally off topic!!

Agreed,

Now make me an easyrider shark sig:D

Do you think it's so wrong to hit your kids nowadays? If they have have been naughty?

I'm not talking about beating them for no reason.

If your child is scared of you... or is scared that he / she would be in BIG trouble if they done something bad / naughty - Is that such a bad thing?

Nope i dont think its wrong and i personally dont give a toss what these namby pamby do gooders think...they are one of the main reasons why kids are out of control these days...the fact that if you hit your kid for stepping out of line and they can report you to the police..go figure eh??

I dont advocate the use of violence towards kids...FFS my dad used to beat me and my 2 bros when we stepped out of line...he bloody well took a belt to our asses but you know what??....it actually helped make us who we are today...respect for authority and manners above all. Yeh sure we resented him for it but we now understand why he did what he did. It kept us damn well in line and we never got into trouble with the police or anything.

As for the fella who said he would take things into his own hands if he saw someone slap/hit a kid...well id love to see that. If someone ever came up to me and asked why i hit my kid id tell him to **** the hell off and mind his own business...i wouldnt hit/slap my kid for no reason...id only do it if they really stepped out of line and even then id think twice. But seriously thats whats wrong with kids these days...no discipline from the parents:rolleyes:

True - I feel pretty guilty :(

I agree, its a massive debate - probably requires a new thread :p

So to summarise the thread...

Hitting kids is awesome?

Oh dear. Why do you call 'us' do gooders? Why must you generalise so? Maybe I should label you as a neanderthal, Daily Mail reading, backwards, Medieval, right-wing authoritarian nutjob?

Hammerhead with the eyes bulging:D

I doubt you'll use it and you were probably joking but here's my fail attempt anyway. You can add the text if you want and JPEG compress it. If not, I'll use it as it looks better than mine ()

I have nothing else better to do anyway.
