WWIIO: Battleground Europe

To be honest though, not to put you off, but if you didnt have the ability to google that and find it yourself I really dont fancy your chances of ever learning the complexities of this game.

Sorry mr high n mighty HAHAHAHA I have no idea how to google stuff nor how to play 'complex' games pacman is my limit

I'm just lazy also my work internet tends not let google work right...links get borked or block because of filters.

Plus putting the actual link here saves others having to search it ;)

Been playing this on and off since 2005. There is nothing like it once you get over the fairly steep learning curve and accept this is totally different to most other twitch fps games. It helps if your a WW2 enthusiast as I am.

You soon get over the functional graphics (which do improve gradually with patch cycles). Its the only game I actually get nervous and frightened playing !!. When you get your first kill it is such an achievement.

One thing not mentioned is the very good sound. All weapons and vehicle sounds are fully identifiable (with practice) and can be eventually located using a decent soundcard/headphones giving excellent situational awareness.

This is a fine flight sim/tank sim/inf shooter all combined into a functioning world with real time strategic decisions and logistics forming a living battlefield.

Get over the initial graphics complaints and regular deaths and feel the immersion. I've sat in locations and simply watched battles unfold before me. From probe to skirmish to all out slogging match. Some key /epic battles can last hours and you can log on again the next day and they can still rage. Knowing where to find the action is important or you could end up in a quiet sector. I believe the next patch in development will address tutorial and UI issues.

Lately been multicrewing allied vehicles which I drive and my mate is the gunner/commander. Unfortunately he has two glass eyes.

This sums it up better then I ever could! What is your name on the allied side? I'll have a look out for you next time I'm on. Wouldn't mind some multicrew action, 3 in a tank? :D

Just found this entry in wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornered_Rat_Software

Which contains this screenshot showing the improvement in graphics between '01 and '06. They've improved even more since then especially in the smoke/fire special effects area.

I seriously have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing in this game. I tried joining the training server, but there's no one on there, so I can't play.

Hi Darg !

Seen your tag in game before. Im Kingcuff and my pal is Trax26. We always play allied. Dont get on too often with our shift patterns. Normally play inf but not too well !

Decided to try hardcore tanking as my inf skills suck and tanks seemed so powerful. Unfortunately the grass is always greener and we are contantly shelled, dive bombed and sapped as soon as we spawn in :D I blame my commander !

Think only max 2 crew per vehicle at the moment. Prob next online over the weekend unless the axis collapse again ! Once they see our Vickers tankette they will probably surrender en mass :D

Well, I managed to shoot someone.

Am I right in saying you have to spawn with vehicles, and that you can't just go in them when I'm an infantry man?

Also, when I'm killed, I have to Esc out and re join that way?

Well done, takes some people a few days to get a kill :)

And yes and yes to your questions. Are you axis or allied?

That's an agonising decision for me: Axis or Allies? I mean don't get me wrong, the English patriot in me tells me to join the Allies and make Hitler go fornicate himself with a sharpened rusty iron stake, but then again, the German's do have some nice kit. :D

Are the two sides relatively evenly balanced in terms of equipment, or is there a big disparity between say, a Tiger and an M4A3 Sherman? Personally I can't see how anything other than the 17pdr could stand up to the Tiger's mighty 88mm, or penetrate it's 110mm frontal armour.

Surely it is possible for a single allied soldier to bimble to a german factory with some explosive and blow it up?

I know there is a chance of being spotted but people must try it :P.

Be Axis, change history! Make Hitlers Britain! Fight Dad's Army!!

Don't tell him Pike!

Sorry for the three posts in a row.

I never knew this game existed and I have a huge interest in WWII (Lord knows how many times I have read books by Ambrose or watched BoB).

Cya in the trial :D.

Tiger is the best tank in the game but they only get 3 or 4 per division last i checked. We get much more shermans, at <1.5km a sherman can take out a tiger with a well placed shot.

At the start of the game allied armour kicks ass :)

And you can go all the way to factories if you want but there's radar, enemy fighter patrols and you only have 8 bombs so you wont make a massive impact.. but then again every percentage counts :)

Allies have a good solider playerbase with a very good group of leading officers. Not saying that axis sucks but..

they're full of noobs >.>

At first you might want to play a couple days axis and a couple days allied, see which group of people you prefer.

Thought i would give this a blast and really enjoying it so far even though i feel completely out of my depth! I tried messaging you ingame Darg, but must have missed you! Im already in a squad which im guessing is like a guild except only for the duration of the campaign?

Just fiddling around in offline practice ATM until I get to grips with the basic controls. TBH though I'm impressed by the novelty of using a joystick to control turrets, although I do have one question relating to vehicles. If you're vehicle/aircraft's hit and about to crash in flames or brew up, can you bail out? I can't seem to see any way of doing it so far.
