X-Com 2 - Announced

That is very strange as there is no way I would have turned off a tutorial.

Oh well, guess I will learn as I go then!

A really nice little touch imo is the body language of soldiers after a mission depending on how well it went and if they are injured.

My Tutorial was off by default, had to tick the check box when starting the new game.

Not aware of any cool-down on specialists. Are you using it correctly? You need to pick the square to move too and in the same action, kinda drag the square to the attacking tile and it shows an arrow from the tile you'll stand on to the one you're attacking into. not sure you can use slash without having someone to attack, but wouldnt surprise me if it just did a standard move.

I chose Veteran and barely made it through the 2nd mission:
3609FE642138FABFDE297A6976F0AD5540D5FDB7

Also really hard on performance at 1440p but not a really a game that demands high FPS, hopefully an SLI profile will be around shortly...

Yes could do with an SLI profile asap.

My specialists keep dying :(

So many new enemy types aswell.Anyone having issues with the Ranger slash ablity, sometimes it just doesnt trigger for me. Can you not use it two turns in a row?(and i dont mean twice in the same turn)

Slash works fine for me. Can use it on first turn or second turn after moving on first turn no issue. But you need someone within range to use it. Once it works, its crazy lethal

They've ramped up the difficulty, in fact its starting to pee me off, sectoid 4/5 times will mind control and they've never failed. The other 1/5 they successfully panic. How you meant to di anything early game, with that disadvantage.

Is the panic still ridiculous? Like in a 6 man squad, at least 4 will panic if one dies? Effectively rendering your whole squad useless for multiple turns?

And the aliens never panic?

If so I'm not buying this, ever.

Just lost my whole squad on a mission. When you discover some enemies, they shouldn't get to move as much. I almost don't want to explore maps now. It wasn't so much of an issue in the first game, but in this you have time limits on everything so you have to keep moving.

Holy Cr*p!!!
This game is is really difficult on Veteran!
Anyone brave enough and playing this on Legend difficulty????

Running 1440p res with MSAA2x, SSAO on, Aniso 16x with everything turned on High, it's running smooth on an i7 4790k 32gb ram and a single 980ti

Doing it on Legend, figured might as well learn it the hard way from the off. Just completed second mission. One grave injury in the first mission and two in the second!

Really annoying though, because I created myself in the customisation thingy and selected sharpshooter, but no matter how many times I redo the last move of the mission he never promotes as a sharpshooter! Clearly has no effect!

The sword attack is awesome! :D

When mind controlled or panicked by a sectoid, concentrate all firepower on killing it. That will severe the mind control and even stop the panic giving you control back of the soldier on the same turn.

I play on Commander for start. Need to get the grips with the tactics and abilities.

Depends how close you moved to them. Initially focus on clearing the path to objective, then explore the map.

And all depends tactics. A stealth Ranger, who remains concealed even after everyone else popped, might be the tool you need for your playstyle.

Usually 3/5 of the times on Commander, they will rise the dead, 1/5 will disorient you and only 1/5 will take mind control.

You will see the Mind Controlled solder has very low Will power, because he gets injured very often on previous battles.

And if you have a solder with that low Will power to be easy pick for mind control, keep him safe, and try to shoot enemies from the second line or always on Overwatch. Never put him on first line.

Grenades are pretty good against sectoids, they wont kill one from full health, but it will hurt them and set them on fire, not too mention take down walls/obstacles for your sharpshooter to drop them from a distance.
Vipers are nasty, had quite a few guys just one shoot by them, they also have a bind attack which immioblizes one of your troops, thankfully while binding they cant attack anyone else

Killed my first a Codex, had no idea it would spawn while completing another ojective, pretty intresting enemy type barely managed to kill it and extract lmao. desperatly to need to unlock the 5/6th squad slots

Yup know how to use it,occasionally it just wouldnt work :(

I was in a building with a sectoid in the same room as my ranger, and an advent soldier in the next room other side of me.I tired moving to the sectoid to do the slash, the prompt wouldnt appear. If i clicked slash it could do it to the advent soldier tho, both enemies were within on action point of movement.I moved the ranger to a tile next to the sectoid thinking it was just a bug not showing the prompt.Made the move got no slash, and no option to use it on 2nd action either, just had to use my shotgun instead, happened a few times :/

Just going to respond to this one...

In the first Firaxis XCom, on discovering a group of enemies, the amount they could move seemed to be almost unlimited. In fact they could always move to the nearest cover.

In one map, where most of the cover had been destroyed, on finding a group of enemies, one of them ran all the way around me to some cover that was behind me. And straight into a position where he was flanking my group.

The whole mechanic is there to /guarantee/ that aliens start off in cover. No matter what. It's just funny to watch them move several screens around the map to get into cover.

I know this doesn't help though. They can't hit a barn door, and even if they do unless your lucky all three other units need to hit to kill them.

Will have to restart tonight. Lost them all due to this.

I'm gonna restart today too. There is quite a bit I didn't get that I feel I need to get to grips with. I don't really get half of the stuff on the map either.
