X-Com 2 - Announced

Wtf. My game seems to have been corrupted. It crashed whilst on a mission and now I can't load *any* game save without the game crashing :(

Did this save crash happen during a quest with Chrysallids that have burried into the ground? If so, it's a known issue amoung the playerbase, and your only alternative if you don't have any saves to fall back on that's in mission is to reload to a point before the mission and finish the mission before saving again.

The other possibility is if you installed any Mods mid game. This will screw with all save games in progress until the mods are deactivated or removed.

Finally, the only other thing I can think of, is to try and do a validation check on the installation folder via Steam and hope that can sort it out.

Likely the Chrysallid issue. First mission I've come up against them, luckily I was able to revert to a game save from before starting the mission :) Panic over!
Thanks! :)

Enjoying this so far but finding it a bit confusing compared to previous XCOM games, are there any half decent beginners guides?

Finally got some exo suits :)
Does the end game clock reset once you hit a facility and knock two blocks off? If so I'm thinking it's best to hit it at the last moment, to get mire scan time. They can't make progress when it's already maxed out.

Performance issues are bad at times but not a dealbreaker in this kind of game, really hope they patch it though.

Brilliant game overall, great gameplay but very difficult in parts. The last couple of fights I had were ridiculously hard, completely impossible to get through without anyone dying. Maybe it’s supposed to be like that, I’m still genuinely sad at one of my losses, I remember when Jane was just a recruit, I trained her up, she was a great ranger and she was Irish. I saw her die last night, she never stood a chance… :( megasadface

I actually think the base game of XCOM: EU is more difficult.

Even my Ironman run on 'Commander hasn't been too bad yet. To be fair the harder aliens (Sectopod, Gatekeeper, Andromedon etc) haven't appeared because I've been holding off the story missions whilst I develop weapons and armour and stuff.

Hacking towers has so far caused me more trouble than they are worth though. Every single time I've failed and it's always nearly completely had me over.

For example: I had a 'stop the aliens shooting up a data beacon' mission. - You have to move quick on those as they can destroy the beacon within 3 turns if you don't get to them.

Anyway, I was surrounded by 9 enemies and one of those hacking towers happened to be nearby. It gave me an 80% chance to give all my soldiers their action points back, so I used my soldiers to fire on the Aliens as appropriate and went for the hack as the last action of the turn. That hack failed (exactly on the success line!) and a troop transport landed with 3x more enemies.

I lost my main medic, main grenadier and substitute grenadier and everyone else was gravely wounded.

After that I thought it might be game over, but somehow i'm pulling it back again.

Mimic beacon is definitely a 'get out of jail free card' by the way. I actually want more 'Retaliation' missions so I can access some faceless corpses and make some more.

Still getting there on my Commander Ironman playthrough... have reached plasma weapons + powered armor, but starting to run into some tougher enemies - sectopod must be just around the corner. Hard to say at this stage but I've got a feeling this campaign might not make it, but I think I've learnt enough to restart on Legend Ironman and see how it goes... Two minor annoyances/queries...

1. Why does it have "Britain", "Scotland" and "Ireland" soldier nationalities but no Wales or England?

2. Does it get on anyone elses nerves that the build/research bonuses are incorrectly worded? - If a project has "20 days" remaining and I apply "+50% speed" then it should not drop to "10 days" - that would be +100%

I'd put that down to the USA's poor geography skills myself.

Yes indeed, my trusty backup Sniper Vlad is Russian (ex-Spetznaz, father died in Afghanistan, there's a whole history that grew over the weekend) has a decidedly German accent! Close, USA, close, but despite the best attempts of Stalin and Hitler, those are two different countries.

Plasma weapons, squad size 2 and exo suits, missions have just become 70% easier.

Totally forgot about the guerrilla facility and the upgrades in it.
Also got the shredder gun for eco, give that a try next mission.

Only generally do 2 missions a day so way behind you lot
