X299 binned and delidded CPU's now available. Along with 8Pack Elite Tier bundles.

What's peoples thoughts on this being a dead end platform already? Will it deter you from buying if you have to go buy everything again when the times comes instead of slotting in a new cpu? Does it matter to you?

cant see this being a issue as the buyers of this platform want the best and will probably just upgrade everything at the same time.its a dead end platform also is kinda stupid.what does it matter if its the highend anyway ? by the time you upgrade it you will want new stuff anyway.well those will who buy top end gear.

How is it stupid? It IS a dead end platform. No option of putting a new CPU into that in the future. How is pointing out the truth stupid? I'm not saying not buy it, I'm merely saying will it make you think again or not.

But how long is the top end CPU's good for? These new CPU's (18 core, whatever) fit the 2066 so there are options available to those who buy the lower end 2066 CPU's. Few probably need to upgrade a CPU yearly these days anyway IMO. New motherboards also bring further improvements/optimisations. After say three years, I'd be happy to buy a new mobo to go with any new CPU to be honest. I wouldn't expect to drop a new CPU into a 3 + year old mobo and have the same performance the same CPU would get from being used in a new mobo.

My last CPU lasted me 5 years. I didn't care that I needed a new mobo with my next CPU.

7740X 5.4ghz Bin Benches. This Bin can run 5.5ghz which I will do more benches later but included a quick single thread R15 in the mix to show the crazy score. Mems 4133mhz C17 1T no problem. ASUS Apex X299 MB.

I'm not sure you really know what you're saying - how are you so sure there are not going to be any second generation processors for this socket?

Of course the answer to this is - you aren't. So no, it's not. Despite you trying to say otherwise. People can battle the pitfalls all they want, X299 is a solid platform.

I agree I wouldn't class x299 as a dead end platform if your spending that much on it you are likely to keep it for many years, at that point you'll likely move to a new platform.

The Z270 and Z370 I would class as dead end platforms, yet again at the same time unless your upgrading sooner than 4-5 years it shouldn't matter too much.

True.

Z270 is dead end and everyone knew that since it came out.
Z370 is also dead end, and going to be replaced by the new CannonLake motherboard Z390 in Q2 2018.
At least X299 is going to be supported at least until 2019 according to Intel graphs. Possibly going to see some CoffeLakeX chips.

With how stagnant IPC increases have been it doesn't really matter IMO. 8700k is going to be like the 2500k.

True that. I am waiting to buy one, even if very tempted to buy either a 7900X for long term, or a 7740X for 6 months.

7740X is a lot of fun for tweaking and OC as well as crazy good gaming performance.
Very Tempted believe me, with some 4133 ram. Was very close to order it on Wednesday night, with Tuf 2 and be on budget or the Strixx and the monoblock.
