X3:Terran Conflict has arrived

Right, I am clearly dumbassed, but bear with me.
just started playing today started out as hunble merchant, during the tutorial, i did basic flight, and then basic combat, he ejects a crate you have to fire at it.

Neither ctrl button nor right mouse do anything for me, despite being meant to fire weapons, am i meant to prime my weapons first?
It just seems to do absolutely nothing at all.

Please help :)

Also what cheap but good joystick would people recommend, as I feel I may have to invest?

whats the story with these derelict ships? can they be captured if so how?

When you find one, get right up close (100m) and on the bottom left of your HUD press EJECT. Then fly closer to the ship and click on it, if you are close enough it will allow you to claim it. :) Then move back to your ship and get back in. You now have a new ship.

If your ship had weapons pressing ctrl or right click would fire them. You could probably skip this part if you think you have a good handle on flying about. I like to use mouse flying by pressing the spacebar and using Z and X for throttle. Your not in any danger around Argon space anyway. I'd say get right along to trading ore and start to make your millions :D

Thx Sparc, from what i could tell i have one bank of lasers, yet it said no lasers equipped, so meh, not overly sure.

I think they built a nice universe and forgot to make a decent tutorial.

I've yet to fire a shot since I restarted as the trader. Hopefully that will change soon when I start to raise my death squ, eh I mean "peace force" :p

I left the game running in the background ... made 4 million hahaha. Now to make more factories to sell more guff to get more monies :D

Just got my first Solar Power Plant up and running but a bit annoyed that I have to provide crystals as the AI plants don't need them to run. Anyone got an idea of how to make a good complex that keeps the plant running while producing crystals?:(

Aw, your kidding, I was going to get a Solar plant soon but I think that has put me off a little.

Talking about stations, can they be easily relocated if you make a bit of a boo boo after placing them ? Or am I going to have to destroy it ?

Edit: Doesn't matter, I reloaded a previous save.

What I usually do is that I save before placing the station, easy to reload the save if I mess up!
I've also sort of sorted the Solar Power plant issue, basicially, for each M sized solar power plant you need one M size Crystal plant (although you need to supply ore and food to the crystal plant as well).
Been reading up on a lot on stuff in regards to the economy and placement of stations, I will try and explain it.

Basically if we assign numbers to station like below and then add/subtract when needed:
A normal station (no known size, ie. laser tower plant) has the value 1.
M size has 2.
L size has 5.
XL size has 10.

An M-size solar power plant produces 276 energy a minute.
Normal stations use 15 energy a minute.
M size use 30.
L size use 75.
XL uses around 135.

Now to calculate if your complex is efficient, write down on a piece of paper a box like this:

Type of station | Energy consumption | Food | Crystals
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
| | |

For example, here is a standard energy plant:

Type of station | Energy consumption | Food | Crystals
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Solar power plant M | +276 | - | -2
Cahoonas M | -30 | +2 | -
Crystals M | -30 | -2 | +2
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL | +216 | 0 | 0

With this setup all you need to do is bring in agnu beef and ore (or create a complex with an ore mine in it).
My setup has an added crystal plant and cahoona bakery for extra profits and to supply my neighbouring stations:

Type of station | Energy consumption | Food | Crystals
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Solar power plant M | +276 | - | -2
Cahoonas M | -30 | +2 | -
Cahoonas L | -75 | +5 | -
Crystals M | -30 | -2 | +2
Crystals M | -30 | -2 | +2
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL | + 111 | +3 | +2

This setup also leaves plenty of space for expansion, ie. you can add a light shields complex to make shields etc.

I hope you guys sort of understand what I'm on about, the X3: TC guide I got the info from can be found here.
An VoG, please post what you have in your weed/booze complex, am dying to be a bit bad!

Thank you very much LLBDTiberio, I had no idea about this. I'm going to have a good read through today before I start expanding anything. When you say "complex" do you mean building stations so they are connected together, like VoG has done ? If so then how do I do that. I was looking around in game and couldn't see any way of doing it.

Edit: Don't answer that ... I see the book has ALL the answers :p Thank you again.

ok fella, there are 20 stations in total + 19 iirc complex construction kits.
12 stations are dedicated to self sufficient power generation, & the remaining 8 to obscene amounts of income generation :p

first the self sufficient power generation side of the complex:
2 x Argon silicon mine LARGE 55% & 22% yield asteroids used
1 x Argon solar power plant XTRA LARGE
2 x Argon crystal fab LARGE
1 x Argon crystal fab MEDIUM
2 x Argon cahoona bakery LARGE
1 x Argon cahoona bakery MEDIUM
2 x Argon cattle ranch LARGE
1 x Argon cattle ranch MEDIUM

& now the income generation side of the plex:
2 x Argon space fuel distillery LARGE
2 x Argon wheat farm LARGE
2 x Teladi bliss place LARGE
2 x Teladi dream farm LARGE

the total cost came to a little over C71million, however, it is totally self sufficient, has 0 running costs, & generates C1.5million per hour profit. so it paid for itself in under 2 days.

i'm sure you'll find the following complex calculator very useful, i know i do. http://home.wolfsburg.de/kprohrbeck/eng/x3tc.html

who normally buys the booze? anyone or just pirates?

pretty much everybody, at any one time there are between 10 - 15 NPC's docked at the station, & they represent all the friendly races bar the Terrans. it's all down to the location of the US, that particular US is close to Argon, Teladi, Boron, Pirate, & Paranid space. i don't know of another US that gives you such a large exposure to multiple markets so closely grouped together.

Do terrans not buy the stuff or is that simply because they aren't near there?

there's a market for space fuel with the Aldrin Terrans, but not the Earth Terrans, & the distances involved to AT space means they rarely, if ever, make the journey.

A complex is several attached spacestations so yes you're right. You need to buy a "complex construction kit" (usually around 270,00ish credits) at any shipyard alongside the stations you need. In order to use the construction kit you need to place the first station down and the second one (don't place them too far apart), then you place the construction kit. The local map will pop up and you can then select the stations to join. You need one construction kit per attached station. I can only recommend the guide I linked to as it's helped me a lot in understanding the universe. Today I managed to destroy an M6 in my M3 all by myself, I was soo proud!:D
Thanks VoG for the explanation, will defo be building that once I have the credits, am thinking of making that unknown sector my homebase anyway.
