X4 Foundations

Found an abandoned Paranid destroyer in Faulty Logic VII. It's pretty nice, but I don't have any real use for it. I just set it to Patrol in Grand Exchange, and it's doing loops around the universe with some fighters parked on the flight deck. So it's now my flagship, and I just control my assets from there. I hang out on the flight deck, watching the universe pass by, occasionally hopping into a fighter to go shoot stuff.

Also, I have discovered that crystal mining is hands-down the quickest way to make money. Look for glints in asteroid fields, fly up to them, shoot the crystals, and hoover up what breaks off. Sell the crystals at any station trader. Some sectors are better than others. Grand Exchange is pretty poor, but Second Contact has loads of crystals. Nopelios' Fortune is crap for crystal mining, which surprised me, with it being a lawless sector crammed with asteroids.

Haven’t found any ships yet, but haven’t explored much beyond where all the factories are in each sector.

Agreed, crystal mining is a quick money maker, slightly tedious though. I stopped once I had enough for my first few traders and miners.

Finally got my HQ. Nearly mapped most sectors and am slowly putting advanced satellites down. Most of my traders don’t go much beyond Argon Prime. It is really random as to how much money they pull in. Also, my log doesn’t always show how much money they have made which is annoying - they need a better way of tracking the miners and traders. I miss the X3 universe trader mod.

I'm still using the starter ship and trying to do a bit of mining. When i hold "O" to collect i hear a noise but ore just bounces off me?

Unless i'm being blind i can only find my personal inventory, not my ships?

Just fly into it and you will collect it in your inventory. Sell it from there.

It just bounces off my ship though. Doesnt matter what kind of ore it is.

EDIT: Upon further reading it seems like my ships cargo must be full. I take it i can only check whats in my cargo when i dock as i've looked everywhere in the menus for cargo?

It also seems you get 3 types of storage and only 2 of the 3 will take ore. I'm betting that i have the one that doesnt support it.

First time playing an X game and i'm enjoying it, if a little rage inducing.

They do bounce off fighters, I've noticed that too, but I wasn't too surprised. If ore and silicon are like they were in X3, they'll be "extra large" commodities, meaning they won't fit in a fighter's cargo bay, even if it looks like there should be room. O will still hoover up crystals, and whatever falls out of ships you blow up. Except lodestones. I think lodestones are actually repelled by O.

There's storage for containers, solids and gases. They're not compatible with each other, so ore only goes into solid or gas storage not containers.

To find you ship storage in flight you can right click the ship name and go to information I think. It should list the cargo in there.

This game is slightly buggy in places but I'm totally sold on it. Knowing that I'm got a small army of ships doing my bidding earning me some cold hard credits is great.

Got my HOTAS setup for it too and that makes hell of a difference (once you turn off auto roll). I can dog fight a lot more effectively once I could pilot my ship like Elite Dangerous. The AI isn't exactly taxing though.

should be a beta patch 1.32 soon to fix shipyards not building npc ships

That’ll create huge demand in the economy. Fair play, they are storming through these patches. Fingers crossed this kickstarts the economy. Time to stock up on traders and miners!

Also going to dabble in gas mining next.

Bought 6 M trading ships at a wharf, all to exactly the same specifications. Three if them had a crew skill of 3 stars and could auto-trade. The other three had crew skills of only two stars. Had to sell them back to the wharf at an almost 50% loss, because I had no use for them. Rather irritating. I'd really like a way to be able to control the quality of crew you get with a ship. Or have some method to increase crew skill. Anything but the dice rolling we have to do currently.

Keep in mind they level up and get better at the role you give them, or at least that is how it is meant to work. I agree though, annoying not being able to choose.
