X4 Foundations

I picked this up last weekend and enjoyed it but as it had so many issues I got a refund. I was expecting patches so quickly so I might pick it up now. Has it improved that much in the space of a week?

Sounds like a good few fixes there. I put this down last night again after the tutorials frustrated me.
someone made video tutorials on youtube that covers most stuff.

It's not really that complicated just the UI has some features almost hidden like the global settings on the player empire page most people wouldnt think to click what just looks like a bit of text

yea but what was your main reasons for refunding? maybe it's cheaper a bit by Christmas also if that's a factor for you

as it still might not be what you expect.

Game has pretty complex AI btw I was looking at some of the ai scripts
pirates use a cover system to appear as faction ships.
they patrol whatever sector they pull from a table with a random order within their allowed range.
search for goods that are valuable enough to them
uncover and attack
loot drops, check if they have a base that needs what they found before selling/dropping them etc

Seems they use a morale system to determine how much courage they have and size up targets properly, they have the ability to hack stations and release storage like a player can although its set to off in the script for them.

They don't suddenly just magically spawn in to the game and attack something it's all properly simulated.
AI fleets have behaviour patterns also they don't just go from point A to point B to attack something so the player can see a fleet fight happening and and be faked in to believing the universe is really alive.

seems there are pretty complex ai scripts for everything in the game and not just scripted behaviour like spawn pirate ship, attack vessel, fake looting, despawn.

check this invasion with 1.30beta patch

My guy just undocked in to it but seems they are killing the station so he flew past with just small shield damage

the fleet size could be amplified from having FOCW installed before I patched to 1.30beta though.

I think focw made the factions have upto 2x the ship limit and xenon/khaak/pirates 3x their limit

It'll take me 2 years to get passed the tutorials at this rate :D
Haha i know what you mean. This game has rekindled my Space sim interest so ive gone to X3 Litcubes Universe. Once x$ is on offer at 50% off ill most likely pick it up once i know its 100% stable and patched up so economy works as it should do.

it's very playable now and havent had a crash in days, just hard to learn the game if you never played a previous X game

No, it is still hard even if you have played almost every single X game, including Rebirth to death. Even Rebirth held your hand more for the first few hours.

Don't think it will take as long as that, the first DLC is due out next year so expect the vanilla to be pretty much sorted by then. Then we can get a whole new set of bugs XD

The steep learning curve is one of the best things about the X games!

Finally starting to get somewhere with this! Made a bit of money from some missions, managed to find a plot mission that opened up some of the map. Bought my first miner, set it to automine and it is already bringing in some cash.

I still haven't figured out auto mining. It looks like the competence level of the crew needs to be a certain level (the mining option is greyed out). But I have no idea where to get competent crew, or how to increase the level of my existing crew.

I just bought the ship and it was automatically assigned a captain. I added a few extra gizmos and 2 crew and assigned it to auto mine. Filled itself up within about 5 mins with 70k of ore.

Interesting. My mining ship, I got by using negotiation and diplomacy (the names of my two pulse blasters) to persuade a miner to abandon his ship. So mine didn't come with a crew. I just went to some random station and hired NPCs who were just milling around in the dock. I'll try and buy a mining ship from a wharf legitimately, see if that works.

Yours is getting 70k in ~5 mins... is that a S, M, or L miner? Also, where's the best place to mine, with convenient refineries nearby to sell at?

Edit: I have about 10 million credits, so I can afford to get an L miner and kit it out pretty decently. But I'm wondering if a fleet of smaller miners would actually earn more money.

M miner. L miner will work too, will get one of those next. Just had an M miner make 300k in one sale (Nividium). They work well. I just set them with a 5 gate radius. They really are autonomous, they find everything on their own.

Now a decent overview of trades, that would be useful.

Edit: no, delved into the log book. It was my autotrader that made that cash. Miners get about 70k a run currently.

L miner does 800-1.2mil a run on nvidium depending on the price.

I don't think auto traders are really worth it, better to invest in station production and assign a freighter or so to that but npc usually buy from you enough anyway

They seem to be doing well so far with 1.3. I don’t have enough cash for L classes yet :p

I used to have L freighter but they run around with less than 9000 cargo nearly all the time usually much less the capacity of an M freighter and they are much slower so seem useless.

I think someone said the AI shipyards are broken and aren't building ships so they always have full resources.

I'm making spaceweed on my station and hullparts but I'm thinking of getting in to drones and smart chips since the AI factions seem to lose a lot of drones and laser towers
