Is it just me or do some of the AI factions do a really crap job of defending themselves?

The ZYA in my game are getting wiped out by Xenon, and for example at one station 2 Xenon ships are shooting the station, not even large ships just small/medium, and they are doing nothing about it?

I am going to build a couple of RAttlesnakes I think and go after them to slow them down. In a way its good because I want to keep on good terms with the ZYA, so now I can claim a couple of their systems once I've driven out the Xenon without ******* them off. I dont want the Xenon to complete get rid of all the ZYA though because I still want to be able to trade with them and buy all the blueprints.

EDIT: also I have a question, can you setup a station with buy orders even if it doesnt need the resource?

I am doing the bit where you research from your main HQ, and you need a lot of resources, at the moment I am manually having to send a ship round to buy the various bits which is a little time consuming and tedious.

EDIT 2: Another question soz! - do you know where you get the advanced nonaweave from, does that drop from ships like the basic version?

Btw to those new here, when you buy M size miners & freighters, get them with Combat MK3 engines & thrusters. Especially the engines matter because of the cut off time period to get to cruise speed.

Unless your just starting out, then the initial cost just isn't worth the marginally increased return.

Yes on my 2 medium miners I went with basic fittings and they’re returning 147k a trip currently. Crystal gathering has been a nice way to pay for them so whilst they do their thing I’m exploring for more mineral locations. Get the credits coming in passively so I can do what I fancy.

The ZYA are positioned in some really tough sectors. I setup a factory there, only to realise that there are hardly any mineral fields nearby. I am hoping that my 4 1/2 star manager, when he reaches 5 stars will be able to mine some gas from a close enough sector.

No. Defence stations. Get a big plot and only put disks with L plasmas, shields, for M size guns use Pulse. Do not connect the disks. Spread them around in various heights to have good LOS. Cheaper to defend systems than using destroyers.

Yup, this is what I am doing mid-game. Far better defence for your money.

Ahh ok, I don't feel so bad for letting him go now. I just finishing building my first station (Advanced Electronics) and was on the hunt for a good manager when I found him. Just bagged a 2.5/nearly 3 star Teladi Manager for 350k which wasn't too bad.

If you have any long running miners, their captain should be 3-5 star on Managment.

Keep in mind that if you have resources in sector and don’t want to sell wares yourself or far away then you can have a pretty average manager. If resources are further away then you need the best. It becomes a game of musical managers!

I went through all my miners and none of them had any :( This is on a 25hr save and I bought them quite quickly.

Thanks, yea I think all the resources are in sector, just assigned the first couple of traders and miners and the manager. They don't seem to be doing much yet :D Edit: The miner is bringing Silicon in \o/

Is the story mission thing important? The one where you have to find the radio chatter on the exterior of a station.

The alien was waffling on about me flying to some location because something, something, technology, but then he was all disappointed in me because apparently I said I wasn't going, and then he cut the feed lol.

Question, will a station automatically sell any excess stuff I make that I don't need for my other stuff? Obviously with a trader assigned to the station?

If there are AI traders around and the demand is there they will do it for you. Yes, the price the manager sets adjusts with stock levels. Lots of stock = cheap prices = other traders buying from you.

If you want to be able to Teleport around the map, yes.
