X4 Foundations

What’s it going to be?
They've not revealed too much about it yet, just a brief statement about it being a new aggressive faction:

"Existential Crisis endgame challenge for veterans. This daunting confrontation pits players against a faction that spares no effort in its aggression, offering a thrilling new dimension of strategy and resilience."

Pretty cool seeing this running at 4K mostly 120fps. 80fps when I’m a busy sector. Trying out 7.0. I remember years and years ago when it would struggle to get above 20-30fps on much older hardware.

I bought this last week and went straight into beta 7.0. I've played all the previous X games but not X4.

Really is a solid title and drags you in. The UI isn't so bad once you get used to it.

I really should boot this up again. I stopped before the first split DLC came out and it looks like there's a shed load now.

Trouble is I know I'd sink a lot of time into it...

E: Was a big fan of Split ships in X3 TC and AP

Oh yeah, there's been quite a few changes from the Split DLC onwards and lots of extra content.
They've reworked quite a lot of the game since then with stuff like a new station building system, better control of fleets, new ships to fly, multiple new factions and sectors to explore, lots of new storylines to discover, etc.

The Split DLC one of the best additions to the game (that and Kingdom End are joint first place for me), I think the Fire of Defeat start is still my favourite of all the options whenever I do a new game.

Think i'll fire this up again for the new DLC which is out on Thursday.

I saw an update download the other day and I thought I must fire it up again.

I started a loooong time ago and then life stuff happened and I forgot about it. I don't even have any of the DLC and I do love Split ships (which iirc weren't in the original release, only once the dlc was out. I forget.)

ai update coming in update 7.0 in October apparently
People have been complaining about it and trying to fix it themselves since the game came out.

From looking at recent steam discussions it seems people still complain about the exact same things about 5dlc later

AI is trash, empire factions are in some phoney fake war playing their own tower defence game that seems to be an eternal stalemate.

people want a universe that seems alive? yet in this game every game is virtually the same, the only thing that changes are your own actions.

I know it's meant to be kinda sand box... but would it hurt if the other factions properly fought and wiped each other out? it's not really a 4x game is it, it's a singe player sandbox with ai empires that are static filler

I'd love to see a civilisation game or any other 4x try the same thing, imagine how boring it would be, the AI literally holding your hand and letting you win every game

I've had games where factions are wiped out. Games where the Xenon pushed through several sectors taking over. I've also had completely stale games where the market barely worked buying and selling.
The Ai is awful in places but it's still a wonderful game. Most times I end up ignoring the global picture and just do little old me in a suped up fighter helping everybody.
I stick with my boring HQ doing a bit of passive mining and trading just enough to fund my ship and mod shopping

This hasn't been on my radar before as I wasn't really gaming for years despite always having a beefy system. Anyway I have always played No mans Sky but that was always my go to escapism when I needed to de-stress. So I guess the question is, is this a game someone can pick up and sink many hours into?. I enjoy this type of genre but dislike the certain child like aspect of NMS. Oh one last thing, I am not in anyway suggesting that these 2 games are comparable out with the setting!.

Oh you can sink a lot of time in it

I've done nearly 1000 hours, and I not played it for a few years, maybe 3 years now.

I'm not done either, waiting till I have a gap in games, and maybe when it's winter so I don't feel as guilty spending time inside gaming.
