Xbox 360 already hanging

Hmmm for the past few days my xbox360 especially on Madden 06 NFL keeps now and again getting stuck ie the disc in the drive spins up then spins down...then spins up again and its making a crunching sort of noise. Saying that though the other day it threw me out of a game of nfl saying disc wasnt readable, so i took the disc out and checked it and there were no scratches on it whatsoever. Since then it hasnt thrown me out of the game but every now and again it sort of freezes for a a few secs.

My xbox is horizontal and is standing on a couple of old dvd boxes...checked the power brick and that doesnt seem to get overly hot or anything. Hmmmm might have to give M$ a ring and get them to replace the unit.

Hmmm. Not good to hear you're having grief. How much useage are you giving it? I am not a heavy user and have had no problems at all.

I'm not a very heavy user either and mine is perfect.... Only ever play it for around 1 or 2 hours a day during the week and around 10 hours over the weekend (Saturday + Sunday combined)

Well tbh not much of a heavy user, maybe 1-2 hrs every day but then there are times where i havent used it for a day or 2. But saying that it seems to have started happening when i had some mates around for a madden 06 session, started at about 11pm and finished around 3am but other than thats about as heavy usage as it gets. But i wouldnt say thats overuseage though, thought these consoles were made for long gaming sessions lol:p

Bah, im always so close to buying one each Saturday, and then i see a thread like this.
Oh for heavens sake...but you don't see any threads saying 'My xbox works perfectly' do you.
Its just a small percentage of 360's that have problems..much like any other consumer goods.

Get one, you'll love it.

Trust me mate, my xbox is the best thing i have bought in the past yr or so. Even before i bought mine last yr i knew it had problems...well some of them do but then im just going to ring up M$ just to be on the safe side and they usually replace faulty ones straight away from what i have been reading on the net. Theres hundred of electrical goods that have problems with them but yet they still sell and not only that theres lots of xbox360 owners that have yet to have a problem with it.

Seriously get one, its highly addictive and u will love it...like Virii said earlier on if anything goes wrong you are legally entitled to get it replaced or your money back.

mine hung last night after playing PGR3 for an hour. and for the first time game me error lights. went to turn it back on and 3 quadrents were flashing red, just the top right off. thought it was overheating so i left it off for about 30 mins. turned it on, still borked.

so went on the net and found this error means this is apprantly a hardware error. did what the microsfot site advised. unplug all AV leads and power leads and then put everything back in and it worked.

little bit concerned about this. these machines seem to be falling on there arse a fair old bit. my last console. the trusty old dreacast never crashed once in years of torturous abuse. this thing however. well PG0 crashes at will and now PGR3 :-( not a happy bunny

Sounds like exactly the same problem I had with mine (but while playing COD2). It froze in game, rebooted it and red lights, disconnected everything and then put it all back together and powered on. Froze before the 360 logo even finished with a load of funky squares on the screen (exactly like an over-overclocked graphics card) then another reboot and back to red lights again.
Still waiting on my replacement...

Yeah but even for the number of people on here that have one there seem to be far to many people with problems imho. This guy was pretty upset, he had three on the trot that were bad..

Now that to me suggests the likely hood of getting a bad one is high if you can get 3 on the trot.

I really would like one but I think the faults are worrying and the game price is only going to be high until the Ps3 is imminent.

Hmm, they mention a V2 Xbox 360 on that forum, is there really such a thing?

I've had two; but it doesn't bother me. Since launch I've only been without it for a week or so. All other times I've had a blast. Even if you do get a bad one; it doesn't matter. You'll get it replaced absolutely hastle free.

I think if you think the game price is related to it being the only next gen console your mistaken. The cost of producing games is spiralling and I think we're looking at these prices for quite a while. Anyway, if you shop about you can pick most games up for £35 or so.

My biggest worry with the PS3 is that games are going to be locked to the console; so they can never be traded. I tend to buy and trade games as soon as I finish them, so they really don't cost me a great deal. Atm, this is a deal clencher than makes me think I won't be getting a PS3.

Heh, I'm baised but, just go get one; they're great. Honest.

 you're kidding? So there would be no second hand market for PS3 games? That would put me off getting a PS3 for sure. At least with other consoles you know that if you buy a duff game you can sell it on, or sell it when you've completed it or whatever.
