Exactly, that's the reason they have announced this, because they have exhausted the available 360 games to add to the service.
But then you just start recycling for the people that joined Live later

Just redone the full 3 years for GPU using codes from a popular website. Didn’t go the VPN route, I couldn’t be bothered. Paid a bit more but have a bit more peace of mind if they should decide to crack down. All my codes were EU/UK or worldwide. All loaded in fine.

What was the cost roughly if you don’t mind? I only did it as my NordVPN sub was coming to an end and have since cancelled itJust redone the full 3 years for GPU using codes from a popular website. Well two things to mention:
1. I didn’t use the “Turkey” VPN method.
2. I couldn’t be bothered faffing around making 6 separate transactions on the website because it only allows 1 of any subscription code to be placed into your basket at any one time.
So I purchased 6m ww, 6m EU/UK, 12m ww and 12m UK/EU.
That cost me £110.26.
If I had of done 6 individual transactions for the 6m ww code it would have cost £70.74.
I know what you are going to say - why spend £40 more, that’s madness!! Well, now that I think about it, you would be right but it was a principle thing!! Stupid website rules limiting to 1 item per transaction. I guess I was raging and intent on buying what I wanted in one transaction. Clearly I fell into their trap
On top of that I spent £8.99 on GPU 1 month code.
So all in £119.25. But if I had been less lazy it would have been £79.73.
So be warned! Convenience is way more expensive but I am at peace with what I paid. Works out at £3.31 per month for all the benefits GPU brings.

I didn't bother with trying to get the £1 deal again but just bought 4 6-month codes from cd keys for £8.99 each (ww versions)(individual transactions as another poster noted you can't bundle them all in one cart, although I didn't actually try). For each transaction they sent me 2 3-month codes and on every redemption I was asked to turn on recurring billing for a free month so I did. That gave me 24 paid months + 8 free months from the recurring billing glitch and then I purchased 1 month of game pass ultimate for £7.99 (ww version) and converted it all. All in I just spent £43.95 for 32 months of game pass ultimate.

Looks like they've hiked the price by £2, that was definitely the one I was buying. I assumed ww stands for worldwide. It's still the most economical way of doing it as far as I know, without being tricksy with the countries/VPN.
Contemplating buying a Series X purely for game pass, and trying to figure things out regarding the process as someone who's never owned an Xbox.
Its a bunch of the 'XBL Gold' membership cards i want, and then to convert them I buy a 1mo GPU from Xbox directly?
Im also not seeing these obscenely cheap cards. The cheapest 6mo Gold on CDK is £20, which is UK/EU anyway, dont see any listed as worldwide/global. They have £5 for 3mo via Turkey/VPN, but no 6/12mo (cheapest 12mo is £27 via S.Africa).
Is there something im missing? am looking for the wrong thing, or have they just cranked prices up?

That is basically it, load up on XBL Gold (You can only convert 3 years max I think so no point going longer). And then buy 1mo of GPU, albeit doesn't need to be direct from Microsoft. I bought one of the CD Keys ones for that too, when you apply that at the end it will convert all of your existing Gold subscription to GPU.
It seems the cheap cards appear to have gone unfortunately, unless you start playing with VPNs. I can't comment on that process as I didn't use one.

Confirming also this still works (got 3 years of game pass ultimate for about £70 last month) and...
some tips:
1) if you've already had the game pass ultimate gold £1 month trial and wanna play it safe, remember it does not have to be YOUR account that has the game pass.
-what I did 3 years ago was made a new Microsoft account, got the 3 years (max) xbox live gold, then did the new £1 GPU trial offer on it, then had THAT account set as my Microsoft store account AND set on my series x.
It then unlocks game pass for any other accounts on the device.
*NOTE: If you do it this way, bear in mind EA play and the ubisoft games is more complicated, as you also have to log into your EA account (you'd have to create a new one) for the one with the gamepass then switch back. A pain. If you can get the UK codes these are better in my opinion.
