I heard that Gold conversion to ultimate is no longer 1:1 when upgrading, apparently 3 years of Gold will only get you 2 years of ultimate now, not sure if that true or not?

Yes, can't link to the new support pages now but there was a good update on Resetera last night. The conversation is now 3 years of Gold = 2 years of Game Pass Ultimate for non-current subscribers (i.e. when converting having let your sub lapse. It's much worse adding Gold to an active subscription).

Still a bargain when compared wit subscribing month-to-month but unfortunately no longer the no brainer/freebie if you don't use it much. Happy I re-subbed in March but mixed feelings on whether I'll continue subbing in 2026.

Just earn MS Reward points then, and use them to maintain Game Pass. It's easy to do ... 3 months of GPU = 35000 points. I've earned 45000 in the last 6 weeks alone.

That's only good if you actually want to play the games and do the daily search stuff, its a great way to get ultimate for free if you put the time in. But like the guy said above if you don't use it much (play games) then the points method becomes something you're doing as a chore/grind and not actually enjoying it.
I used to do it and gave up after a while as I was playing absolute junk just to earn points. Don't get me wrong this is a great way to get sub for free or heavily discounted though, personally I just got bored playing some of the rubbish games to get the weekly cards completed.

Yes, I think using MS Reward points or letting the sub lapse are still he best ways to get Game Pass Ultimate.

Although tbh I prefer using my reward points to buy games as I want them.

FWIW the US MS Xbox Support pages that confirm the new 3:2 ratio. Xbox GP Ultimate FAQ support page (under the third heading of 'what happens to my prepaid months of Xbox Live Gold,...')

This. Most of my points come from non-game related stuff. I take, at most, 10 mins a day to gather all the daily points.

Mine runs out in November and it's highly unlikely I will continue it. My son has his own ultimate, I presume we can share his anyway?

I must be one of the few Xbox owners who doesn't have gamepass, seem to spend less time gaming these days but do the MS rewards points for xbox vouchers and buy my games with them.

Correct it's no longer 1:1 but 3:2 so when you convert gold to gamepass now you will lose 33% of your months. For example 12 months of gold converts to 8 months of gamepass

Surprised to see VPN shenanigans still working given how hard they come down on it on the MS rewards stuff.
I still have 2 years of ultimate. I wonder if I should start topping it up or waiting until it runs out again. Who knows how this'll all work in 2025.

If Gold goes away then there won't be anything to upgrade from to Ultimate so I presume it will end. Although the hack is still live now you only get 2/3 of what you did previously.

Gold has been rubbish for years, can't recall the last game I played which came via that so not a great loss.

Maybe not, Gold is just getting renamed to Core and things changing such as game with gold being removed and instead a certain amount of gamepass games being included I think, doesn't mean conversion will end, time will tell though.
