XBOX Gamepass Ultimate conversion is back for £1

Maybe not, Gold is just getting renamed to Core and things changing such as game with gold being removed and instead a certain amount of gamepass games being included I think, doesn't mean conversion will end, time will tell though.
This. In all likelihood Core subs will convert to GPU at the 3:2 ratio currently on offer with Gold. But if MS did get rid of all conversion deals, and consumers could only buy GPU directly, then yes, I could see subs plummeting. I don't think Phil Spencer is that stupid though.

At launch with core sub, these games are included, with more added 2-3 times a year.

  • Among Us
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • Doom Eternal
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Gears 5
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • Inside
  • Ori & The Will of the Wisps
  • Psychonauts 2
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

I think the 3:2 is just a stepping stone to 3:1. They will want to get you to the point where 3 years of core/gold is near as damn it the same as 1 year of ultimate.

No its even worse than that, they are getting rid of xbox gold and replacing it with a new low gamepass tier called gamepass core.
With Xbox gold gone, it means the new conversion ratio is 0:0 No more buying cheap gold codes and converting into gamepass.

Microsoft knows it's losing money on people doing the gold conversion trick and they are fixing it by getting rid of gold

Its not that far away now tbh. I've been critical of GP because I dont think its great value but I am going to bite the bullet and grab 36 months of live on CDkeys for $233. 12 months of Ultimate is on there for $210.

My GPU runs out at the end of October so I'll have to see if converting GP Core to Ultimate is worth the hassle. If not I'll just get 6 months of GPU which can be had for just under £50.

They lose money on every Xbox and Game Pass generally, I don't think they are doing this to stop the hack as I'm sure they could switch off the conversion. They changed it from 1:1 to 3:2 easily enough.

I think there are a few of things going on, one is consistency, having game pass and gold is confusing for customers. We get it but trying to explain this to my bro in law recently was difficult. We take it for granted but there are a lot of folks who aren't as tech savvy.

PS Plus has 3 tiers, you know what you get for each and it's a single thing Sony are promoting. Having a similar structure for GP makes a lot of sense.

I also think MS see the negative press for the poor offering of games on gold, plus it must be a faff negotiating these separately to GP for a limited return.

my gp runs out early next year, i think jan, kinda sucks its not 1:1 anymore

so much is it currently costing for 2 or 3 years of gp?

But will we not be able to convert gamepass core codes to ultimate?

I think this is the thing, atm no one knows for sure until confirmed.

In the MS support pages they state conversion rates for Xbox Live Gold, PC/Console GP and EA Play but no mention of his new GP Core yet. If they didn't do the conversion it might be a bit odd as it's potentially a good way of trying to 'trap' consumers in the more expensive pricing tiers. Particularly as MS don't currently run promotional sales on Game Pass in the same way Sony do for PS+.

We'll find out later this year. Can't imagine it'll be radically different but also they're not exactly going to roll back the conversion rate. If anything they'll slowly tip it in their favour, maybe something closer to PS Plus and their uplift rates. Can't blame them with this "hack" of stacking Gold being allowed for so long already. I did 3 years of ultimate last summer for about £60 from stacking 3 month Gold codes.

Yeah, I have it until mid 2025, while it lasts i'm just going to top it up with 3 month gold codes when I see them on sale.

What is even more curious is that since the Core/abadonment of Gold news, the option to use MS Reward points to purchase GPU has stopped. It's not clear if this is a temporary measure ( there was a recent bug where buying 1 month of GPU would grant 3 months ) or not. I think MS would lose a lot of subscribers if they remove most/all of the methods to get GPU "on the cheap". Speaking for myself, I certainly wouldn't pay for GPU monthly at full rate ... I don't feel it provides enough value. If I had to pay for one subscription at full rate I'd be more inclined to go with PS Plus.

I tried to jump on this unsuccessfully. The code was stuck "processing" and I got an "oops we ran into issues" email a day later.
On the other hand, normal Gold codes are still up on Rewards. Last I checked they still extended your subscription at a little better value than GPU codes. It was something like 300 points per day vs 388.

Heads up, there is 3 month gold codes on cdkeys for £6.99, if you are a current ultimate subscriber you can convert the gold code to 50 days of ultimate. 50 days of ultimate for £6.99, bargain! I just purchased 2 codes myself.

With the new conversion rates, topping up vs letting ultimate expire and converting gold to ultimate is not much different now. From now on Im just going to top up every now and again I see some good deals on gold.

Remember though, gold is being changed to gamepass core, so these codes will fizzle out eventually so now might be the time to get them stacked up.
