I knew i should have stayed out of this thread, now ive got someone telling me pluging a 2.5" HD in a PS3 is diffrent to plugging the same 2.5"HD into a PC.
Console wars brings out the fanboi flame wars everytime.
If how you plug a hard drive into a box is what this has boiled down then this subforum is at a new low.

I thought 'deal with this thread' was actually polite coming from me...Anyway back to XO, I had a light skim on the Neogaf forums that started the whole GPU downclock rumour and it seems their initial impression is changing, yes there are issues with eSRAM production but how they are solving it is very much up in the air. Its fair to say something will need to happen outside what was the expected specs if MS expect to delivery on time (Holidays 2013), just way too late to make any major changes...

Not really, I was just pointing out that it was a bit dramatic to say swapping a PS3's hard disk is like swapping a Skybox one.
It doesn't help that I, just the other day swapped a new hard disk in to a PS3.
As for my comment about putting a PC one in, it was based on the assumption that most people run their PCs with the case closed, so you'd need to unscrew the side panel to get access, dig out some SATA cables and a SATA power cable and find space for it.
Again, I did that too a few days ago.

What's the eSRAM about? Is it like the EDRAM on the 360?

Its a similar type of memory, just far more densely packed and quicker so rather expensive to produce (and so why it seems they are having troubles). Its function is different to eDRAM IMO (we still dont know 100% where its gonna sit in the pipeline and what its gonna buffer/accelerate) where the eDRAM was used for post-processing (so the whole free AA term etc) while my interpretation of the eSRAM is that it will sit between memory and GPU basically assisting pulling in assets into the pipeline to ensure the GPU doesnt go 'dry' as its got far more bandwidth over DDR3 (and GDDR5) but obviously is only 32Mb which someone here worked out to be 1080p with 4xAA I believe. TBH thats not a great technical description but it will do, I suggest you hop over to Digital Foundry/Anandtech where theyve had articles about the tech side of the XO.

I agree its not hard for PC builders but its not excatly plugging a cable in either.
I always think of this stuff as would my brother do it or call me.
He'd call me to change a HD in a PC or a PS3 but he can plug something in (barely).
This is a console not a PC its designed to be idiot proof to a point.

Anyone that buys an xbone after this and makes Microsoft they can do this crap to us deserve a slap. Most of that list doesn't affect me but I won't. E giving them my money on principle.
If I miss out on good games so be it but hopefully people show there dissatisfaction by not buying it.

But we dont know what Sony are planning with regards to how the treat game purchases and until then we cant really comment.
MS have clearly released this now so they dont have to at E3 where it will have a bigger audience to say WTF, Now its down to Sony to say what they are going to do to appease publishers and purchases because thats what this is all about.
I very much doubt Sony will turn around and say its exactly like PS3 because I dont think publishers will be happy...but you never know.
The problem with MS is that they came into this fight way to brash and not realising that the public can and have easily switch 'sides' if they are getting a better deal and at the moment Sony are coming out of this as if they are your best friend.

Indeed, I imagine MS have got very strong publisher support for such a system or they would not be doing it, if Sony are not doing something similar could we see the likes of EA etc focus more on the Xbox?

Maybe, a lot will know doubt come down to the userbase, it could go a few ways really. If the PS4 picks up a lot of traction due to no DRM then that bigger userbase could swade developers, but then you have the flipside of those secured purchases on the XBONE.....
Agreed, from the other side of the fence its the best thing going IF IT SELLS.
Hell it even let EA off the hook with the online pass, there PR guys must have been creaming themselves whne they realised that.
