**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I wonder what happens if your console borks. There must be some way of delegating a primary console so that you still get access to your games for more than an hour.

Sums it up for me really. Hope Sony do right by the consumer.

No way, publishers would get ****ed and not release their games on sony platform. Sony hands are tied now, either do what publishers say, or we won't give you games like COD, Battlefield, FIFA, Madden.

Sony is in no win position.

this is so stupidly complex. that alone is the retarded part. be interesting to see what sony says. they've mentioned something like this stuff in the past and patents ? but it would be interesting to see if they suddenly say they will step it back. undercut Microsoft on that aspect and maybe rake it in ?

also be interesting to see when it finally comes round to launching and Microsoft still maintain these things what will mr joe blogs be like when his kid demands he has one. when the first numbers start coming in that's when we shall really know

As a temporary solution I cant see why it isnt adequate, the assumption is the phone home feature isnt a substantial procedure. I dont even consider it that inconvenient considering the benefit of doing it. Ive got a builder around at the moment and the leccy was off for most of yesterday, I still used my phone as a portable hotspot for my laptop to work...

Seems lots more gaming websites are finally starting to rip into Microsoft over this whole thing. Microsoft are cancelling interviews/meetings with gaming journalists left right and centre and making the backlash even worse.

LOL You shouldnt have to do this.
You need to understand you are making two subtly different points, Mr Men on the ability to log in while you dont have 'normal' internet access for a temporary period, not on the whole requirement of having to log on in the first place.

Or you just use your phone every 24 hours to validate the games. Not hard to think of a solution to most things.

Off course its a viable alternative in the event you have lost your home internet? Why is it ridiculous?

I would hazard a guess that a very high number of smartphone users do not know how to tether a device to their phone using portable hotspots. i think this is a situation that won't occur very often for most users tbh, but again people are just trying to make excuses/solutions to problems that should not really exist in the first place.

Personally, I find the information they have released today highly confusing, for the average user. Mr Men, do you honestly think the details they have revealed today are:

1) easy to comprehend for an average user who buys the console?
2) good for consumers who like to trade/buy 2nd hand games on the high street?
3) good for people who have slow or unstable internet connections?

Can we stop posting utter ******** without any kind of source? This is getting as bad as the football transfer thread.

Blame the idiots at Microsoft. They do a console reveal, when even they don't know what is happening. One of the worse hardware reveal I have ever seen, total utter mess.

Even with the statement they released yesterday, there are still grey areas.

The assumptions in this thread makes me embarrassed to be a member on here, some really daft stuff coming from people before they have even been released or hearing better details before E3,

Believing Sony are not going to have their own DRM way of doing thing...LMAO..yea...good one.

People posting on an internet forum getting annoyed about a 24 hr check in the background etc...via...the...internet.

I can only assume all PS4 owner never intend to hook their machine up to the internet.
All before you even have seen the PS4 or ANY of their polices lol...brilliant.

I wonder how big the words will be on the box when it goes retail saying "must need internet connection"

Its going to be Windows 8 all over again

Whilst I partially agree with you, Microsoft have now released details of their online requirement and games selling/trading etc, and most people are discussing/speculating about that.

Is this thread not to dissect and analyse new information as it is released (be that before or after E3)?

I'm sure Sony will have their own DRM of some sort, but a) there is a separate thread for that and b) they have not released any information, Microsoft have.

That's not the point though, and yet people keep bringing this up. The point is that there should be no need for it to keep checking that you're online, licensed to use the game etc. It adds nothing of any real value for the user.

Installing games and not needing the discs to run them is great, I like that idea. It's not unreasonably either that it needs to do certain checks to ensure you 'own' the game otherwise yes, people would buy a game, trade it in or lend it to friends etc. whilst still getting the use from it. But they should also offer the ability to run the game with the disc in the drive when an internet connection isn't available, just as you would now. Or give you a longer grace period. Or something, anything.

I don't really know what the solution is, but it's not my job to figure that out either.
