**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

That would be the same Surrey of London? Don't take it to heart when I neglect to take the next door neighbor to the capital as the booneys of internet connection. Up until two years ago, my hometown residence in N.I. was in an area where 1mbps was the max available. I find it hard to believe that was the last area to be similarly crippled.

Um, no. I don't live in London. My internet hovers around 1-2 mbps.

From everything ive read ( I actually read the entire statement, not the edited version on Blog sites) its doesn't really say much about the 24hr thing, it doesnt read to me that its an ABSOLUTE requirement.
Its not about adding anything to the user, it about protecting the work done by the Devs because of the growing piracy in gaming, theirs a reason this stuff exists, to make them more money and protect what they made. Ms arnt making the money, and the more you read, its more written to the Devs then end gamers.

What you think Sony has any control over this, you think Sony are going to say to the Devs of the exact same game, screw you guys, we arnt doing that, you think Devs are just going to say..ohh..yea fine.

People are talking about not buy the Xone etc etc, utterly completely stupid, you want to hit the people that are making this happen, don't buy EA games, and other publishers, THATS how you hurt them.

And just on the PRISM thing, thats even funnier, confirming what most of us thought for years, but form some reason, MS is the biggest to blame, I wonder how many in here that complain about a unreleased product currently is on Facebook and has a Android phone in their pocket...but yea...sure...lets just point at MS.

Unless I am mistaken Games piracy was a huge Microsoft and Nintendo problem last gen. Not Sony.

Microsoft and Nintendo had their security/DRM whatever compromised very quickly and neither companies were really effective in combating this over multiple years.

Sony were compromised much later in the product cycle and the hack was much more complicated (from what I believe, I am not an expert though).

In an ideal world I would like Sony to have a better solution. In practice, seeing as both companies deal with a lot of the same devs/publishers they will have similar DRM.

I am sure people are going to be even more annoyed at Sony if they now announce their requirements are the same as MS, at the behest of devs/publishers. Especially as Sony made clear that you could use their machine offline, initially.

You may need to get an upgrade then, else you are not going to get an "optimal experience"

Networking Requirements

To ensure Xbox One works optimally and can offer the experiences described above, it is designed with the following networking requirements:

For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps). In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband.

I agree if games were much cheaper say £25 max then I could accept that I couldn't trade it in or sell it. They wont be though, most pundits think they will in fact cost more then they do now.

If developers produce naff games and go bust it is their own fault...

The other problem now is that since you will be unable to rent games to see if you would like to purchase them, you have to take a gamble that the £50+ you splash out is on a game you actually like!

They are being greedy in stopping the second hand market, its as simple as that. What right do the developers have in demanding money because you sell something THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR?!?!?!

Anyway the sales will speak for themselves in the long run. IF the ps4 allows second hand games and the Xbox doesn't then MS's folly will become apparent very quickly.

Only thing I would say is that game rentals aren't the only thing we have to determine a game's quality. There are demos, previews, reviews, gameplay trailers, friend recommendations, etc. I don't normally rent a game to work out whether it's worth purchasing, I normally rent because the game has received an average review score of 6 or 7/10 and isn't worth paying for, or if it has a pretty short single-player mode and no decent multiplayer.

Also, by selling a game second-hand, the developer is missing out on a second sale effectively. I'm not trying to justify their position on this, I don't like what MS are doing, I'm just attempting to offer some perspective.

I completely agree that it's up to developers to produce a quality product. Excellent games sell well; if a game doesn't sell well it's not because of piracy, it's down to poor marketing, a poor product, or both. Some developers and producers still don't seem to understand this properly.

It's going to be really interesting now to see what Sony announce. If they don't follow suit, I'm sure plenty of Xbox 360 owners will be jumping ship for the next gen. On the other hand, if they do the same thing I think they might draw even more ire from gamers, for not telling us earlier.

Wow sorry, but hold on a second, i thought Sony had that whole Jail Break thing where someone broke there encryption, released it and made you able to play PS3 games illegally?

Doesn't detract from the fact that many of my friends had 2 Xbox 360 consoles, 1 hacked and 1 normal.

Let's compare the number of Internet Users with Xbox 360 launch countries.

North America - 78.6%
Europe - 64%
Japan - 79.5%
India - 10%
Latin America - 42.9%
Brazil - 45%
Hong Kong - 74.5%
Singapore - 75%
Taiwan - 72%
South Korea - 83.8%
Australia - 79%
New Zealand - 86%
Phillipines - 29%

Which leaves a total of 37% of the MS's 360 market areas as being without an internet connection.

I think it was a much bigger problem for MS and Nintendo, as I said, because they were hacked much earlier in their life span. I am sure there are stats somewhere that would verify this, but I don't want to go too far off topic.

Again, let's wait for some details before making assumptions.
Microsoft stated the 1.5mbps figure, it's not an assumption.

What do you guys think about DRM using a camera based technology (i.e the kinect on the new xbox) being implemented in other consumer technology in the future? Say for example the camera senses 10 people in a room, automatically stops playback of the movie and demands cash moneys because you only have license for 2 people to watch? I'm sure the NFL would love that!

The more I read about what Microsoft are doing with this "console" the more I'm really concerned about the future of gaming. I hope people have the sense to see this and protest with their money, because this is all kinds of wrong on so many levels.

People are arguing that its just like Steam but its not. I didn't mind using Steam generally because of very cheap sales, it's got competition, PC's dont have a "lifespan" so all my games wont suddenly get the plug pulled 8-10 years down the line, and because I can turn offline mode on for as long as I want.

I hope for goodness sake Sony don't do something similar because then that's me out of console gaming completely. What a bloody tragedy, instigated by nothing but corporate greed and control.
