**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Let's compare the number of Internet Users with Xbox 360 launch countries.

North America - 78.6%
Europe - 64%
Japan - 79.5%
India - 10%
Latin America - 42.9%
Brazil - 45%
Hong Kong - 74.5%
Singapore - 75%
Taiwan - 72%
South Korea - 83.8%
Australia - 79%
New Zealand - 86%
Phillipines - 29%

Which leaves a total of 37% of the MS's 360 market areas as being without an internet connection.

Sorry explain that please?
Markets like India and the Phillipines are not based on the whole country but a select middle class who in the most part will have internet.

I dont understand what those stats are ment to be? % of the population? How much of that is potental market and how much is people who have other things to worry about like feeding their families.

I agree it will kill the "asparational" market in developing countries, my PS3 is in Indonesia now with the in laws and its like they have a magic box at thier house for the local kids. (they are not in a major city they live in a small town in sumatra which while it does have power etc internet is not something they would or even could buy) PS2s or even PS1 are still more common there though.

Percentage of internet using population. And in response to how much of it is potential market, all of it, now that you need to have a connection.

What do you guys think about DRM using a camera based technology (i.e the kinect on the new xbox) being implemented in other consumer technology in the future? Say for example the camera senses 10 people in a room, automatically stops playback of the movie and demands cash moneys because you only have license for 2 people to watch? I'm sure the NFL would love that!

I do believe I read that MS has a patent filed for this.

http://www.geekwire.com/2012/microsoft-diskinect-freeloading-tv-viewers/

so for me XBone is a pass for me. PS4 could go the same way and that will get a pass as well. There are plenty of current gen games I've not played on the PS3 and 360 and there is always my PC

I think it was a much bigger problem for MS and Nintendo, as I said, because they were hacked much earlier in their life span. I am sure there are stats somewhere that would verify this, but I don't want to go too far off topic.

Microsoft stated the 1.5mbps figure, it's not an assumption.

The PS3 & Xbox 360 hacks came out the same year.

Nintendo issues wasn't to do with the wii but the DS because of flashcards.

Stats? to show piracy was big issue if so it's typical corporation bs.

From a legal stand point if the XB1 has to connect every 24hr otherwise you can not play games then under UK consumer laws MS might be in a bit of trouble due to this could make the unit after 24hr offline unfit for it's purpose unless they in big writing on the box also store staff clearly inform customers before purchasing small print wont be good enough.

This whole thing is about control and purely drm also a friend said to me if it has to do a basic sync every 24hr then why didn't MS put like Kindle had 3g worldwide access built in and it auto syncs so people don't need there own internet unless they plan to use it for gaming/streaming.

MS say that the whole point is to eliminate waiting for updates and the like, so I'd imagine they plan on a decent amount of data going through at these regular connected periods.

I don't have any stats, but someone posted earlier the top 5 pirated games and the total was in the millins iirc.

I'm surprised that they were both hacked in the same year, but that could be right.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me but everything I saw online and read here implied piracy was very prevalent on 360 and Wii for a very long time (by quite a few members on here :) ) and PS3 piracy happened quite late on.

Anyway, this is going off topic, especially as I don't have much to back up my thoughts apart from a bad memory!!!

I think Sky did something similar a year or 2 ago where a part of your hard drive was reserved for content that would be pushed to you in advance or something like that, when your connection was idle?

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure you could flash a xbox 360 drive and play pirate games well before you could ps3. As in well over a year before.

From a quick google, it would seem pirates could use the 360 in 2006 and the ps3 was hacked in 2010.

I may be wrong but didn't the Wii also do something similar if the 24hr connection option was enabled?

"For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps)."

I would really like to see how many potential customers fall outside the bellcurve threshold.

Not internet though, all of that comes via the dish. Annoyingly, even if you turn it off, you don't get the disk space back. :(

I like the way all the announcements/statements for this launch is basically a defense of what they are doing rather than showing off the capabilities and features.

'You only have to connect every 24 hours'...something to get excited about!

The same Steam that sells new games for half the price and regularly has 6 month old games for half again?

That's awful.

Must be a diffrent steam to the one im using, new AAA titles on steam are always more than at online stores for physical media (even steam activated games)

But we must not speak evil of steam must we or Gabe the second coming wont give us a steam box with almost excatly the same DRM structure as the XBox One but you cant resell your games at all

Then go buy it from a retailer or other online store - you have a choice do you not. Or use steam when the game is 6m+ old and benefit from some decent pricing and specials. If the publishers are driving this through you can bet those AAA titles are going to be £40-£50 and with no other options (2nd hand market) gamers are going to have to pay through the nose to play them

Whats second hand got to do with it? You cant buy steam games second hand.

Online games are expensive on Live but i dont buy them unless they are on sale. I buy them from online e-tailers for less like i will with the Xbox One if i get one.

No one has said games are going to be digital only.
