Put a tea towel over Kinect. Problem solved. :D
If Total Recall is right, it should be wet and worn as a turban ;)
I'm sure I've read somewhere that it needed to detect a face to log into your XBL account as well but again I have no idea what is baseless and what is fact at the moment.
Pretty sure its a feature that when Kinect detects a face it auto logs you in, with it disabled Im sure the old school manual methods using the controller just work fine...

We've got 6 months give or take until release that's a lot of time for them to rethink, re-jig or even completely change some of these things. Releasing details this early maybe a calculated gamble or even a massive attempt to do a focus group type thing for some of their ideas.

To be honest though I'm not overly concerned one way or the other as I'll be buying it.

They are depending on mugs to buy it and put up with this filth. I hope Sony don't go the same way as I'm out of consoles for good.

I hope at least they leave it up to the pubs to decide, because that way it'll probably just be the industries scum suckers like EA and Activision dirty enough to use it, and I can easily avoid their garbage they spew out.

Quite surprising the amount of hysteria considering pretty much every laptop and smartphone has a camera, microphone and internet link that you can't unplug. *shrug*

You mean the same laptops and smartphones which all have an open OS so all its behaviours can be examined from top to bottom?

Yeah that's exactly the same as a games console which will only ever connect to one ip address and has its Camera, mic, hardware, software and network completely hidden by encryption so no-one can see what it is doing.

Exactly the same I tell you.

If you said it with less vitrol no doubt some would agree with you

My personal stance is after talking to a few console owner friends (well attempting to in some cases) is that MS/Sony/Publishers are right to treat gamers as idiots, it does seem that the vast majority are solely concerned with what they can do with the new machines and not about the bigger, longer term, picture nor how it might affect others in different circumstances to themselves.

I do think theres a major shift in control from all those entities to decide how we digest/buy/sell games and it just doesnt feel like you can freely do what you want. Fair enough the notion of licensing games/software is not a new one and I can understand that these companies want to get in on the action that retailers have for years with used games, but that incentive isnt there because it helps the end user in any way. People volunteer Steam as an example of what might happen, but I dont think thats correct, it doesnt have the monopoly on the platform like the console platform holders themselves have and even if you use that example ask yourself the question 'How healthy is the PC used game market?'.

The bigger issue I have now is that this sense of control is now moving to the console itself and its what MS seem to be doing (we dont really know what Sony are planning but its far likely to be the same than different - theres an endgame at stake here) regards all the additional restrictions, is the ability to play without a disc really enough of the benefit to have a 24hr phone home check? Is that convenience really worth that additional layer of restriction? As plenty have said its not really an issue to have the internet in place to service that but it does seem to paint a possible bleak future for console gaming if such acceptance is just given for the reward of a shiny but rehashed set of games...

Its a fascinating paradigm shift in gaming thats happening, what amazes me is how few have realised that or its extent. To paraphrase something I read, what struck me was that all these benefits we are being sold today with next-gen are less than what we already have today. So what are we really gaining out of this, or more importantly what are we quietly losing?

But theres plenty of unknowns still, plenty of assumptions made, I wonder once all played out where we will be though...

The thing for me is they are wanting to move to the same restrictions/processes applications like Office have. Where by the the user gets a licence they install and off they go.

People don't complain about that, its just people would never have envisaged this happening with games but here we are.

Yeah I think as gamings always been shunned and marginalised by the media to be something that kids only do and that you grow up out of it, its only now they realise the kind of money it can generate that theres more interest by entities within gaming in how to maximise that profit or to ensure that profit remains within the 'system'.

To the outside world though those additional concessions we seem to need to make to continue gaming appear trivial because they think gaming is trivial. On the flipside youd never have thought those mechanisms used with other media/software would invade your gaming past time...

EDIT: Not the best post Ive ever made, jumps all over the place. Sorry!

That can't be right if you have the ability to switch it off.

You've no way of knowing it's off unless you unplug the machine from the wall. It's already known there are Arm processors in the new consoles so the machine can be in standby pulling the usual 2-3 watts from the wall and still have the processing power available to it of a modern mobile phone.

I may sound paranoid, but MS have a potentially massively powerful tool available to them which we are supposed to believe that they won't use because they "promise" they won't.

Sugar coat it however you want, it's a step backwards and makes the gaming more restrictive.

If Sony keep the status quo, it'll be a big attraction for gamers who just want it simple and have the exibility to trade/borrow games etc

You do rember what happened to google when they collected info through their street cars by mistake? MS would be insane to even consider collecting the sort of stuff the conspiracy theorist are coming up with, next thing well be have people believing the lunar landing was staged.

Seriously people get a grip.

You do sound paranoid.

In fact everything you've posted in here has been MS hating/doom-mongering tripe.

It always seems to this time of year when my ignore list gains some new members.

So what part of what I have posted is factually incorrect? Are we so stupid as a society to just accept this stuff without question.

Can anyone explain rationally with a convincing argument that why if you have switched the camera off in settings you can't then unplug it without your games being blocked from launching.

Are there parents on this board who would happily put on of these in their kids rooms?

Yeah I am negative about the Xbone, there's nothing to be positive about and there's more questions than answers. I bought a 360 at launch, I did intend to buy a Xbone at launch because all my mates run 360's. None of us will be buying Xbones unless anything changes. We won't be buying PS4s either if Sony force the same things, it's just madness. It's worse than I ever could have dreamed and I despair of my hobby of 25 years.

They were logging on to open wi fi networks and recording what they found. As this stuff can be easily checked they were caught.

Nothing can be checked on the consoles, absolutely nothing.
