**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

It does feel like Im having deja vu after watching the Alex Jones interview on Sunday Politics...

You have seen the news that has come out in America where MS and others have freely been sharing data from their servers with the government, and that they were the first to pioneer it?

I have no idea what relevance your point has to what I said. Someones taken a photo of my face and told me its confused

They were logging on to open wi fi networks and recording what they found. As this stuff can be easily checked they were caught.

Nothing can be checked on the consoles, absolutely nothing.

It wasn't easily checked it was discovered when they did an audit at the request of the German Data Protection office and the rest of the information was then subsequently audited.

And you seriously think that nobody will notice the massive amount of data being transmitted from the Xboxs around the world or pull the packet stream to bits if there is even a chance that something like this could happen???

If they even had the slightest thought of doing anything that has been suggested it would be stamped on by their lawyers so fast they wouldn't know what hit them. The privacy implications of even thinking about doing it or having the means to do so would be corporate suicide, MS might be a few things but they sure as hell ain't that stupid.

And why all the fuss about the xbox when mobiles, laptops, tablets etc have had the facility to do this for years???? Utterly mad and totally blown out of all proportion doesn't even come close to describing the drivel being posted by people at the moment.

Xboxs already move massive amounts of data before even the Xbone is released, because the data is encrypted we don't know what it contains, but we can at least be confident no one is recorded you scratching your nuts on the settee due to the fact you don't have to have the camera connected even though it is off.

Phones and laptops are not encrypted and can be checked for unusual behaviour unlike encrypted consoles, but you are correct you do run the risk of being recorded and stuff like key strokes logged if you don't keep an eye on your security and install mallware.

If MS were to systematically listen in, and I'm merely pointing out that they can if they want to, not that they will, they wouldn't listen to everyone at the same time for christs sake. It could be more systematic like listening for keywords for advertising purposes etc etc, or it could be rogue employees logging on to your machine and having a look at your front room.

Again, I'm not saying that they will, merely that they could and you would have no way of knowing that they have. That's enough for me tbh, it's just weird.

I'm very excited about new console releases, and I love this forum, but with the amount of *****s in here posting complete crap, it's just not worth bothering with.

It's the same old faces from the 360 release, and a few new members too.

I'm happy for anyone to provide definitive proof that it cannot happen and will discuss any rational point.

Posts like "That's crap fanboy lol!" just shows how much you have to add.

Saying that this scenario has been picked up as a cause for concern by some German politicians so MS may have to answer some questions in the EU.

even though i wont be getting one the kinnect thing always being on doesnt really bother me. all they would see is some random conversation, tv watching, and 'action' ;), i have a logitech HD webcam aloft the tv and many smart tvs have cams anyway

i dont like that you have to have the kinect due to cost issues. It obviously isnt something that people want or they would sell it separately and make increased profit! the only way they can make it sell is by forcing you to have it. That in itself does make you wonder about the future implications with be it DRM, games which require stupid gestures and *cough* spying *cough

Do you think there will be any way to use an xbox style controller with the new playstation should sony not do all this rubbish Ms are? I cant get a playstaion due to inabilty to use the controllers due to my hands and their design

I wouldn't have a camera pointing at me on a TV either, saying that disconnecting a TV from the network probably wouldn't stop it from working completely to incentivise you to connect it back up.

At the end of the day I'm not asking much I just want to unplug the camera, and apparently you can't even though you can switch it off just "because."

I can see why this move to internet based authentication and much more stringent DRM is happening; including the restrictions on used sales and loans.

If this step-change meant that new games would be priced more keenly, come down in price much quicker and parallel with regular sales, as demonstrated by the steam 'PC gaming model', then this could be good for the consumer.

It is too early to say how this will pan out but in the short term the backlash is obvious.

They are clearly aiming the consoles at people with good internet infrastructure which is still a sizable % of their main markets in terms of raw consumer numbers, so this won't hurt sales.

Using mobile broadband is fine if you can limit access to authentication and not end up having an auto update of x GB which ends up costing a fortune in data charges.

If this console actually replaces the home PC and does everything a PC will, including all the office/authoring/cad/business software etc then it would be a win-win. I get the impression they may have been aiming for this, ran out of time and have missed the mark on so much at this stage.

Should they manage to launch this as an all in one PC/Console then they could wrap this generation up regardless of the DRM position.

Sadly, this is another post that shows no real thought. The xBox was and is always going to be a gaming console. No other use. Bar tablets now, MS are not in the hardware industry. It doesn't fit their portfolio and never will so I'm not sure where your penultimate and last paragraph fits in.

We get it,, you think they're going to be used for spying purposes. you've droned on about it for i have no idea how many pages of this thread!! Just give it a rest =\

Its all pointing fingers and guess work, yes it could happen, in the same way it's also possible it wont happen. You see why its pointless cramming this thread with it constantly!?

Everything have cameras in these days, it could happen on any of those devices, go complain about all of them as well.
They are pushing a new form of controller, I for one will be getting kinect, even if I don't get an xbone. It's either xbone or a haswell NUC with kinect.

If it worries you that much a bit of gaffer tape. Or stick a photo in front of it.

Regarding installing games and the 24 hour checking thing. Don't see what was wrong with the way the 360 did it. Official disc in, install, can only play with disc in. Sure it's a chore, but can play offline from hard drive!

Kinect doesn't worry me from a security point of view. It bothers me that they assume everyone is going to have a living room set up. I game on a PC screen slouched back in an office chair. I'd never be able to play kinect in my gaming room even if I wanted to. So why should I need to have that hunk of crap cluttering up my desk. If I can turn it all off brilliant, so why not let me just disconnect it and throw it in the drawer or better still sell me the xbone £50 cheaper and stick it.

I like the idea of having several games to play on the push of a button, yeah the 360 with disc in worked well but I always thought what was the point of installing if you need a disc in the drive. I don't mind the 24hr online check. I think they will have some way of coping with this if ur net goes down, say like u ring Microsoft and get a code which stops the console checking for a connection for a week or two.

Maybe they felt this system would best protect the console from pirates, Unless the thing is truly hacked then there is no real work around with the disc drive for them. Quick flash of the drive is all it took in the past.

Sounds great having to phone a company up and get special permission to play something that you paid for.

I really don't see what the issue is, they have to protect themselves from pirated software and it is rife. The amount of j taggers on online games hacking the games is unreal, remember playing modern warfare 2 and loads using thermal thru walls and stuff. I'd happily make a phone call if my net went down if it stops people trying to gain advantage by trying to hack online games

lol what?? This place has been so xbox centric since long before the 360 was released.

TBH i am shocked at the amount of people outraged at it on here.
