**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Well with some many people saying they won't buy a console cos of DRM and the possibility of both consoles having DRM and pc games getting DRM to, what's everybody going to do? Never buy another game again?
I think it's all been blown out of proportion, publishers set DRM not Microsoft.
As I said in earlier post if have a 24hr check stops hacked online games then am fine with that, everybody here has the net or why would u be posting on a forum?

Its not for piracy fella, you need to grasp that, the above link is a decent read.

I paid 24 quid for Grid 2 on the pc, I can install it on any pc I want and I go on holiday without a net connection and play it there.

I could even play Saints Row the Third for free for the weekend and buy it and all its DLC for 5 quid if I liked it.

If the consoles provide an eco system like that they can crack on, you'll not hear a peep from me.

That is a currant gen game, can do that with either console now. When next gen launches with or with DRM pc's will be the same. Lets say grid 3 on console will have DRm for instance am sure it will have some form on of to. Hasn't sim city got DRM all over it already?

I fully understand the frustration.

That said, today/tomorrow all assumptions and rumours will be laid to rest.

Ok what is the reason this is happening?

Because some suit who doesn't, nor has ever played games has worked out using black and white maths that the industry will see revenues increase because the sheeple will still buy games at the same rate even if they cannot sell, loan or rent any more.

Its like they think everyone has all this disposable income to keep spending 40-50 quid on a 6 hour game with no means of being able to dispose of it after they've completed it so they think we'll all start storing the games we'll never play again on a shelf somewhere once it becomes a huge hassle to sell them.

How many games do you buy in an average year new or ore owned?

They've tried to enforce DRM as restrictive as the new Xbox on the PC and fell flat on their face.

I fully expect the next Xbox to be the same because I fully expect MS to be dealing with the largest sustained DDOS attack on its servers around the launch which could mean nobody could be playing anything until it stops which could be for weeks.

None of my xbox 360 games are new. Not one.

Most I paid under 10 for. All under 15 That includes halo 4

No way I will play 40£ for a single digit hour campaign. If a game has a 6 hour campaign it's not far off 10/hr!

I have bought and still own about 70 xbox games, all bought new. yes I agree about short campaigns but I like multiplayer to so I get more out of a game

Plus your old games don't become obsolete once a new graphics card comes out, Unlike these consoles with no backwards compatibly, Oh wait they'll sell them to you again on some store.

I know that has basically happened with every console but it is annoying.

If I've completed a game and don't like the multi player on a console I'll trade it in, usually for something else. I'm the type of person who likes stuff on release day so I buy new, if I don't have anything to trade in the game would have to be a confirmed excellent game before I would consider, and there's no way I'd buy run of the mill stuff on a whim. If I have stuff to trade in I'm more likely to impulse buy stuff I wouldn't normally look at.

I don't tend to pay over 25 quid on the pc because of being unable to resell and I only tend to buy stuff I really want as a long term investment in my library. Thankfully it's not hard to buy pretty much everything for less than that.

Yeah I've never been an online playerr, don't have the bandwidth, intact don't meet the new recommended speed of 1.5mbit

So only having access to single player I look for local coop games, I can't justify rrp for shorter and shorter single player.

I'm not bitter tho, I just won't buy it. Although I am still interested in the launch

do you own a console?

This whole generation of PS3 and 360, there's probably a handful of games I've bought outright brand new on release day. Stuff like Mass Effect 2 and 3, Skyrim and soon GTA:V. The rest I've rented. If I like a game so much, then I'll buy it when it gets cheaper otherwise it goes back to the rental company, job done.

Now there's going to be no rentals, I don't know what I shall do! There's no way Microsoft are going to have 75% off sales like Steam.

I struggle to see why Sony would spend billions on high speed ram when, as you say it will create no benefit.

Ram Bandwidth on video cards is absolutely critical to the performance of them, especially at the resolutions that they are aiming for.

The power of the GPU in both of the machines is leagues apart also, and there's fairly substantiated rumors MS is reserving more of the hardware for os redundancy. It could end up that the PS4 runs games at 1080p and the Xbox a much lower resolution to keep up.

Saying that if they are both DRM infestation control fests it won't matter to me as I won't be getting any.
He explained it (yes I cant find the source so I am sorry) but basically summed up that bandwidth wasnt the problem it was a latency thing and how it pushed the relavant stuff about.

I only buy games new when I know it is a no-brainer...Gears, Halo, GTA etc...

Other gems I've played through Lovefilm that I wouldn't have bought were Tomb Raider and Hitman Absolution. So i'm hoping MS speak to their "partners" and have the rental business sorted shortly after launch.
