**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

None of my xbox 360 games are new. Not one.

Most I paid under 10 for. All under 15 That includes halo 4

No way I will play 40£ for a single digit hour campaign. If a game has a 6 hour campaign it's not far off 10/hr!

£15 is my price point too, I waited until GTAIV, RDR and Saints Row 3 all dropped below then I bought them. RDR was second hand, but the other 2 were new so I'm assuming the publisher got a little bit of my money at least. From now on they won't be getting any.

He explained it (yes I cant find the source so I am sorry) but basically summed up that bandwidth wasnt the problem it was a latency thing and how it pushed the relavant stuff about.

I thought I'd give you benefit of the doubt, but it appears you don't really know about the subject.

The timings (measured in nanoseconds), are actually better for GDDR5 than they are for most DDR3. Do you have a specific source you can cite that contradicts this? Its the GDDR5 memory controllers on a typical video card that are high latency (Which is where most get their latency figures from.) as they don't need quick timings for their particular workload, not the actual memory chips themselves.

GDDR5 timings as provided by Hynix datasheet:
CAS latency= 10.6ns
tRCD = 12ns
tRP = 12ns
tRAS = 28 ns
tRC = 40ns

As you can see, nothing to be concerned about at all and pretty rapid. This thought should be pretty prevalent when you consider CPU's haven't been bandwidth or latency starved since DDR1 pretty much.

So, to sum up when it comes to the PS4 the latency of the GDDR5 will not be a problem, but it remains to be seen whether Sony have engineered their memory controllers to cope with the work load, which looking at the design and comments from AMDs engineers it appears they have, maybe all will be clearer in a few hours.

Doesn't really make sense to me... modern games are GPU bottlenecked rather than CPU bottlenecked, and GPUs need bandwidth over fast random access...

But then I'm not your unquoted, unsourced expert ;)

Jesus, calm down, was literally said I what paraphrasing from an article I was reading, so im prob getting a few bits wrong, up shot was he was stating their will be a difference, just not as much as you think.

lol, sorry, could also be mis quoting, feel free to copy and play it back in a few months time when we can see for ourselves.

GO back to making up stuff that you have no information to base it again.

I have worded it badly, it was something like although it has all that stuff its how it would work overall, or something, still looking for it here!..its didnt jsut take that one aspect but looking at the overall system.

Isnt the jag in the PS4 an OOO processor eliminating most of the ill effects of the slightly higher latency anyway?

Lol. You think the Xbox Live servers can't cope with authenticating the consoles, when they manage to service millions of online Xbox Live users currently with no trouble?

Behave

You do know what a DDOS attack is? Sony got the full brunt of one over the removal of OtherOs from the PS3, which in the grand scheme of things was a minor inconvenience to a very small amount of customers compared to the current mess.

There is that also yes. You'd always prefer an OOO processor and low latency ram though.

Read that another big retailer has reported pre-orders for the new Xbox are currently higher than PS4.

You may as well pre-order with that particular retailer as they don't charge your card so you could pre-order both with no risk and cancel. I imagine there's a few Ebay warriors hoping for shortages at launch who are snagging as many as they can get, if they are particularly savvy they will know that the rumors of potential shortages due to manufacturing issues are coming from Team Green at the minute whether they are true or not remains to be seen. The difference is only a couple of % apparently if we are talking about rivers.

By the way anyone else surprised at the lack of leaks from Sony? There's nothing, which when you consider their history is a big surprise.

Are you paid per post by Sony?

it really isn't that simple

These things do happen:

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/battlefield-3-servers-see-ddos-attack-no-user-data-breached/

Then of course, there was the recent major news about the spamhaus DDOS

http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/03/spamhaus-ddos-grows-to-internet-threatening-size/

http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/04/can-a-ddos-break-the-internet-sure-just-not-all-of-it/

Spamhaus only managed to stay online when they turned to a 3rd party company who specialize in defending you against DDOS attacks.

This is also another good example when Sony got targeted.

IF Sony have the same DRM they will have to pay me to buy their machine yes.

Thats what you meant right?

You wouldn't be one of those who start implying people are fanboys when they say stuff you don't agree with would you? You are clearly more intelligent than that, I see.

Saying that, if you find anything I say to be untrue feel free to contradict me, you'll find I'm more than willing to hold my hands up if I'm wrong.

do you own a console?

I bought a 360 on launch which broke (Quite a bit.) and I have a PS3 which is gathering dust recently (Mostly being used as a Blu Ray player.) as I've mostly been playing BF3 and Planetside 2 on the PC and the PC is now connected to my main TV via WHDI link, saying that I'll be getting The Last of Us on release and I'll be trading something in, not sure which game it will be.

The main problem with the PC currently is its stagnating on the hardware side and the prices of bits are getting beyond ridiculous for the power gain you get so I had made the decision to either get the new Xbox or PS4 whichever was the most attractive. I'd pretty much decided to go Xbox because that's what the rest of the lads had, as long as MS didn't mess it up.

Its fair to say (IMO) that they've messed it up, even without the DRM, unless its proven otherwise it looks to have all the power of your average wet fart, so that leaves the PS4 which whilst having much better looking specs, (To someone who is used to building their own PC and looking at specs.) it has has plenty of potential to be messed up, because at the end of the day, its Sony and they are the master of it. The stuff they came out with on the E3 before the PS3 launch was just mind bendingly annoying.

Watches the queue form after E3 lol
Joking!!!!

I have to look at E3 tonite to see which way I will go, am swaying more Xbox as I have a 360 and want to carry on with my profile and I also like the games on Xbox,that's not to say ps3 didn't have good games. I just liked gears, halo Alan wake and stuff that were on Xbox over ps3. Saying that I have missed out on uncharted but hey ho can't have evrything

Gotta be honest, I do like the diversity of games you get on Playstation, there's only so many wise cracking high fiving space marines with big guns I can take and I can get my fill of those on the PC. I also like playing Fifa with the lads, but they all run 360's so there was a compromise to be had which ever way I went.

Hopefully all the stuff that we know is now untrue and MS have made a big u turn, I'll happily hold my hands up to that!
