**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

this whole issue of publishers and DRM

if the ps4 sells bucketloads no publisher is gonna cut of his nose to spite his face..they will publish on both consoles..it would be financial suicide to wipe out millions of sales.

yes I agree totally, I can see Microsoft back tracking on that.

what if publishers started producing games for just xbox tho because they back the DRM, not saying it will happen but if it's the publishers that have been pushing for drm why wouldn't they suppoet it?
just curious that's all

Any idea how many of those nice looking exclusives will be available for 360 - all of them?? I think thats the only thing going for the Xbone at the moment, the lineup of exclusive games is probably just a bit better than Ps4's. But if I can play them on my 360 then that problem is solved.

Steam is different though you have never been able to sell on PC games so you have not lost anything but if you buy an Xbone you give up the rights you previously enjoyed with the 360.

As others have just stated that's completely wrong, but that's not the point I was trying to make. I just think it's a little funny that people are absolutely hammering the Xbox One for following a DRM trend that's been in place on the PC (without large complaints) for years. I'm not saying it's a good thing, as I would like the option to buy 2nd hand games and trade in old games, but I don't think it's the disaster a lot of people seem to be making it out to be. I'm more bothered about having to connect online once a day if I want to play my games, as there is always the possibility of my phone line/modem dying and being without the internet for a few days.

My guess - none of them. Why make an exclusive for your brand new console and then release it on the old one as well? Makes no sense at all.

The reason why there is no issue is that you still have a choice on PC. You can buy from a shop or you can buy from Steam. Generally unless you cant be assed or want something straight away you would buy new games from a shop (which you can sell on) and buy games on Steam when there are sales because everything is so cheap you dont care about selling on.

This is what I do and cannot complain

With Xbones DRM - there are hooops to jump through just to sell a game - and that is every game regardless

I can only see EA doing this if it happened - they seemed to have jumped into bed with MS

This would be no great loss to me though

if this is the case then surly Fifa is a console seller and Battlefield

There's seriously no chance of this. The only reason Titanfall is exclusive is because Microsoft have paid an extreme amount of upfront cash to make it so.

Given how similar PC, Xbox One and PS4 architecture is it doesn't make any sense really not porting games to all platforms. It's nothing like the previous generation where the difference between a PS3 and 360 was massive development wise.

The real winner this generation is the PC imo, I can see nearly all games coming to both consoles and PC. Take Titanfall for instance, it's coming for PC as well as the One.

Indeed, I said many pages back I must have imagined installing UT on 8 machines for LAN, and letting countless friends "borrow" it
ok maybe not ever but for years it's been the case, at the end of the day is does not matter if you don't mind losing rights for a few shiny games that down to the individual, I'll keep my rights & game on PC & PS4.

Which is why you'll notice that most of them are published by Microsoft Studios - the devs are being subsidised initially.

Yes you are right all the first party stuff is going to be Xbone only initially. I would expect third party stuff to realse maybe on Xbone first then follow up with 360 later if there is demand for it.

You're assuming they can handle it? Would require additional development time to develop for both. I doubt we'll see many (outside of those already announced)

I highly doubt they would develop a game for the Xbone and then release a version for the 360 later on down the line. It'll either be an Xbone exclusive, or released on both consoles at the same time. The development time and costs to release a 360 version later on down the line would be rather prohibitive.

This article sums up exactly how I feel about the next gen consoles

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-11-war-never-changes
IDK, the article seems a poorly thought out knee-jerk reaction to me.

What on earth was he expecting? Graphically we knew/know what to expect from the new consoles, we've seen it or close to it on PC for a while. But I'm sure that's not what he was getting at...

I just don't know what he was getting at, What did he expect? The industry wasn't going to make some massive leap into some kind of gaming singularity... This is exactly what we have come to expect from every console launch... Better graphics and better production value. Nothing much else has changed, games have definitely evolved and they will continue to do so. There was never going to be some kind of overnight revolution, especially since people have already developed for and played games on systems more powerful than this. Maybe the cloud can be used for some neat stuff, but I doubt that outside of some niche titles that will make any big dent... Just again, a slow evolution.

I also wonder why he is disappointed in the types of games that were shown, "shooting and driving"... What planet is he living on? That is what people want to play...

It just seems to me like he is passing off his personal feelings as an honest objective look at the "next generation", he didn't see what he wanted to see from MS... Millions of people DID see what they wanted to see.

---------------

Though... £430... Not a chance MS, not a snowballs chance in hell.
