**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Since my last post I've read a couple of articles discussed the main points that people are getting annoyed about in more detail, and I feel better about it now. I like the idea of it going towards more of a Steam model, however the article I read talked about cost savings for consumers. Maybe further down the line it will happen, but at this stage I still think we'll see games at £40+. If, as a result of the way Xbox One works, games are released at a £25-30 price point, then I'm all for it.

Never going to happen.

In order for that to happen it will have to be proven that industry revenues increase by 50% due to blocking used sales before they even consider.

Which, as I said, is never going to happen. Blocking used sales will cause a huge revenue decrease in this instance it appears.

I do like the idea of being able to download from day 1

Eh? Selling used games doesn't benefit the developers or publisers in any way, since all the money goes to the shop in question. You could argue they make some extra money from the purchases of online passes by people buying the 2nd hand game, but I think that's a relatively minor income stream for them. Blocking used game sales should (in theory at least) force more people to buy the game brand new, which is more revenue for the devs and pubs.

I like the fact that someone on my Family list can actually play the game at the same time as me. That means that in theory (in case they change the rules), I can buy a game, share it with a friend, and we can co-op through it together on seperate consoles with only one of us actually buying a copy. That for me is a huge benefit.

Day One edition comes with limited edition controller and a Day One achievement (I kid you not..0G though) :-)

Also included are some free DLC for Forza 5, Ryse etc..

Hmm, any news on what's special about the controller and any info on the DLC? Just checked my pre-order and it's a day one + guaranteed through Game. They aren't doing the guarantees any more from what I can see.

I'm pretty sure only 1 person can use it at a time.

Nope, I've seen multiple articles where they've said one family member can play at the same time as the original owner. The wording remains a little confusing though, so I could end up being wrong. They may still be deciding themselves tbh.

Edit: From the Penny Arcade interview above...

The question is how many people can play the game at the same time. Spencer told me he believed that two people can play one copy of a game concurrently, but he urged me to check Microsoft's official wording on the matter to be sure.

My assumption is that as the original owner, I can play all of my games, at any time, with any one of my family member also able to play the game. It remains to be seen though whether I could play a MP title with a friend at the same time, or whether he'd be restricted to the SP side of the game.

I don't believe nothing can be done. I could possibly believe they can't turn the online check ins off, but I refuse to believe that they couldn't extend the time easily enough, from every 24 hours to every 7 days. That change alone would appease many many gamers.

There is an alternative... Online checks every 24 hours or put the disk in the console if you have no internet connection.

I've suggested the same thing myself, and see no reason why this couldn't be done. It would be a happy middle ground for me. If I buy a digital download I would expect to have to go online to check I've not given it away (which seems possible, even with a digital download from what I've read), but if I've got the disk I don't see why I can't use that to confirm I still own the game.

Unsure if I dare ask this here - has anyone preordered / is Amazon pretty much the best place to do so?

I've done it through game, guaranteed order (although can't get this any more I think) and you can change the pre-order to a bundle. I'll probably not bother with bundles anyway as you won't save much and I rarely like the game combos in bundles.

Nothing stopping you now is there? Apart from the fact DD games are more expensive due to the manufacturers trying not to upset the retail guys.

To be fair if that came to fruition as you say it would be a very positive thing but, I'm wondering why there was no mention of it at all at E3, and wouldn't it mean the end of dedicated single player games because you can buy just one copy and share it after you are done all around the world to 10 other people for nothing, it just seems, I dunno, TOO good and open to massive abuse. Why bother with DRM at all if they were just going to give people 10 potential licences for the price of 1.

But, as you say time will tell. There's a 50+ page thread at Neogaf about this subject which is going round in circles and still no-one is the wiser.

Developers were very quick to stop Sony sharing DD games to 5 people, never mind 10 when they did it.

I think the fact not much was said about it just highlights how poorly MS delivered their message at E3. They appear to have several really exceptional ideas, yet don't seem willing or able to put it across in simple terms everyone can understand. It's incredibly frustrating as a consumer, and it's costing them customers as people are getting angry and deciding to get a PS4 instead.

As for the sharing of games, Phil Spencer mentioned that in his interview and seemed to be okay with it. It's not like I couldn't share my current 360 games with a boat load of people now anyway. I'm hoping for some iron-clad confirmation about how this will work in the next couple of weeks, as it's one of the features I'm most looking forward to.

I quite like the idea of this family list (of 10) but given the DRM move is to ensure the publishers (rightly or wrongly) get a slice of future resale would this family list lose them sales - I mean I would club together with 9 friends and for those games that arent AAA only one copy would be bought between the group. You would end up with a big library of games shared between 10 users. Obviously for the big games each would buy the game if they knew they wanted to spend a lot of time on it
