**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

First line if the t&c, 'You can always play your games' aw, cheers MS, really appreciate being able to use something I've paid for.

I have kept every game I've bought, never traded any in, though I have bought a few preowned ones.

The same applies to my collections for the PSone, PS2, Dreamcast, and more.

In 30 years time, I will be able to drag my 360 out of the cupboard, blow the dust off it, and show my kids and grandkids what gaming used to be like. I will be able to power up an old favourite of mine, such as Red Dead Redemption, and give it a whirl, like people do with their old SNES/Mega Drive/N64 collections today.

I likely will not be able to do that with the Xbox One. The servers will be long shut down, the console no longer being able to sign in for it's daily check. With the Xbox One, your collection becomes obsolete when Microsoft says it does. Not when your console stops working.

I am not ready to give this up for the digital era. Call me old fashioned.

I suspect you're on your own here. Chances are your kids won't care, anyhow ;)

MS certainly don't care about what happens to this gen in 30 years time, and I honestly wouldn't fault them for that!

In the more short term, I'd be more worried about MS getting into so much financial trouble that they shut the servers off prematurely. Their future is anything but rosy.

Obviously I don't know this for sure, but I would suspect if MS were ever to shut down the daily check server they would be also be providing a patch for the software on the machine that would stop checking, allowing you to continue playing your games.

Well in that case carry on using your 360/ps4 and dont buy a new console. Things move on. If you use you pc for gaming then am sure you will of spent more than 420quid in the last 10 years to keep up gaming. I dont see 420 as that expensive to play games and not have to upgrade for 5 or so years

I have spent much more than that on my PC, but my PC is upgradeable, it's not fixed hardware that won't change for 10 years, it's not a console, it's completely different.
I also don't consider £420 to be expensive, I was planning to get both consoles and a Wii U (when the price drops considerably), just like I have all 3 and a PC now - gaming has never been an inexpensive hobby.
I actually think that digital rights laws need to be updated so that everyone knows where the line should be drawn.
I'm really disappointed with the whole situation. I like (most of) the games that MS showed but I won't bend over to play them.

For the people that have pre ordered or will pre order the xb1, where have you bought it from ??

I pre-ordered the day one edition from Microsoft Store, but I've since heard they aren't the best with delivery or getting it you for release so might change my order to Shopto, I've heard they are decent :).

Steam was the lesser of all evils plaguing the pc. Before it's existence you could just borrow a game from a mate, download a cracked exe and away you went.

Steam didn't stop that but it made it more difficult and encouraged devs to actually produce more for the PC. Users were generally happy with that as the platform was getting ignored because of it. MS is trying to spout this excuse and hope everyone is daft enough to believe it so they can get full control of every aspect of their eco system.

All digital may work on consoles eventually, but until the manufacturers figure out how to appease the retailers who will actually be selling the hardware then DD will always be the more expensive and now the most restrictive option for the end user.

To do this correctly digital needs to compete with retail and the consumer needs to decide which to use. MS aren't willing to compete with retail so we've ended up with this mess that doesn't actually benefit anyone and has added layers of huge complexity to everything.

The mess is quite spectacular to behold.

I pre-ordered mine from shopto. They haven't let me down with new releases and I used them when the 3DS first came out.

Also, they offer a 12 month warranty for instant replacement of the console should it break down. The warranty applies to both Xbox One and PS4 so I think they are worth a look.
