**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

It's not more powerful if it comes down to the reliability of the hardware though. It's been "pushed" to be more powerful to contend with competition. I think it's as simple as that. As you say, ultimately it will be how the games are developed, but don't think the PS will romp home with more resources when the XB will just offload to the cloud (provided you have an internet connection and the game is developed to do so). I had endless problems with my original PS3, overheating, powering down, not booting, etc. Sure, the early XB was just as bad with RRoD but I had a revises console and it's never ever let me down....yet :)

The reality is pretty much every hardcore gamer will have both systems within 12 months of launch, so no need for arguments (group hug)

Mircosoft have also announced that they will be changing the name from the Xbox one to the Xbox 180 in line with the new policy statement! they also thought about calling it the WiiU-turn but did not want it confused with a last gen-console (Not really my view just fanboy bait :p).

This joke would be funny if it wasn't over 12 hours old.....

As I posted earlier, the PS4 has cloud processing also. They've just not made a big thing out of it like MS has.

I'm not trying to make out the Xbox One is going to be crap, it obviously isn't. But it is a solid fact that the PS4 hardware (performance wise) is better.

How did you manage to come up with those puns?

You are the wittiest man I know!

:D

I can't help feel that the Luddites have possibly broken a good chance to change the way the console ecosystem worked for the better.

I can understand microsofts response and I'm still all about the games going forward but to me this doesnt feel like a step forward more a defensive action.

I agree with Davey's comment as well that big companies dont do things in a day, and I have a feeling that maybe the reason allot of the press confrences were put on hold were because they were faultering

It does make me laugh on here sometimes.

People moaned about the restrictions of the xbox one. Now they are moaning that they have changed everything. Seems Microsoft cant win.

I know the additional cost due to the Kinect is a bit rubbish. I for one own a kinect and use it all the time, not just for gaming but for when watching Movies on Netflix or any media streaming. Just saying "Xbox pause" and the video stopping when I want it is good. Rather than waiting for my pad to power back up and then have to mess again with buttons is a bit of a farce.

I am now more inclined to get the new xbox but I will have to wait and see what its like. The only console I've ever bought on release is the PS2 as that were far superior than the Xbox at the time.

Hmm, one advantage of this move is that it's less likely the Xbox's 500GB HDD will fill up quite as quickly. As there is no requirement to install games to the HDD, I'll likely only install the games I play a lot, like I do now, which should mean that 500GB drive will last me far longer than it would have done previously.

Agreed, and that's why I'm getting an Xbox One first, simply because the exclusives (Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3) appeal to me more than the PS4 alternatives. Nothing more, nothing less.

From the E3 stuff Drive Club was getting all the love on the driving front. I have loved Dead Rising 1 and 2 (and 2.5!) it does tempt me to get a xbone from the start but I cant think that it wont come to Ps4 at some point, I reckon it will be a timed exclusive.

The only other thing that is swaying me to get an xbone is the ultimate team exclusive stuff on fifa 14, I guess we need to see exactly what that entails.

Lastly - launch dates - we know roughly when xbone comes out but still we dont know when the ps4 launches, if its a month or more ahead of the ps4 Ill get both consoles - if its around the same time Ill start on ps4 and get an xbone when prices drop a bit and some software is built up.

It isn't being "pushed", you make it sound like parts are being overclocked or operated beyond their design limits, but that isn't the case at all. As for the cloud, there's really no substitute for raw processing power, the cloud may allow some interesting things but it isn't going to help the Xbox deliver massively better visuals or performance than the hardware inside the box can already provide.

Have that said that installs will no longer be mandatory? All I've seen is that you'll need the disc to play the game. It'd be a mistake to rely solely on the disc, load times will be excessive.

Theirs more and more downsides to this, maybe it is because, relatively, we all live in internet stable places.

But, I imagine things like pausing say Forza half way into a race, then instant switching over to have a few games of BF4 online with my mates whilst my Forza race was in a paused state, then switching back etc etc is all gone?

MS, unfortunately, have it all wrong yet again.
All they had to do was:
1) You have to be online to play a game without the CD
2) You can 'revoke' the game license to trade in at a store through a built in procedure, requires an internet connection.
3) 24 hour DRM checks only exist for 'additional consoles' and material not running from the CD

there, job done. All of the digital perks, and nothing changes for those who wish to play from the CD at home or at a friends place, and they can still trade it in just as before.

/sigh

I think that says it all. The problem with this whole thing is that nobody at MS had a clue how all their policies actually worked. So we were getting confusing - and often conflicting - information. Before they announced the X1 they should have sat down with some top marketing people and said "these are the things we want to do with the X1. How do we tell people about them and make them sound like good ideas?" Instead of coming out and just saying "you NEED to be online all the time. You MIGHT be able to trade games in,or maybe you won't. We don't know yet. Etc etc"

It was just handled very badly by MS from the start.

I'm a bit gutted about this to be honest. I really liked the idea of family sharing and moving to a more digital content phase. Unfortunately the reaction left them with no choice.

Hopefully they will find a way to allow family sharing for digital content and give people the option to use it if they want to. Then people can see the benefits before commiting to the new system.

They've said it will install the game automatically. No running off the disc.

Have they? Can you link me where you read that? :)

That was never there. You could switch between different applications (so gaming -> TV -> Skype), but they made absolutely no mention of being able to switch between games.

MS have lost my trust completely & backtracking does not really change that but I'm interested in how many people who said that were jumping ship to Sony still intend to do so in light if the new announcements.
DRM was my main gripe with Xbone but the US centric media features & kinetic really don't do anything for me.
I also thought the best looking game at E3 was the Division which is multi-format & I felt out shone the exclusives on either console.

Most of the people not happy with their recent decision are the ones that were embracing the direction they had planned in the first place.

I think this is what they are saying below...

http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/19/xbox-one-drm-marc-whitten/

"There are some bizarre added benefits of the new system, as well. One disc can act as a copy for several people, at least on the install. "If I had a physical version of my game and I went to your house, we played, and then I left with my game, you could actually buy the game instantly with no download," he told us. Since the Xbox One automatically rips disc-based games to its HDD, it essentially installs games on any box you play them on."
