Depends who else is going with him, I doubt one scapegoat is really enough. Good for MS though, though the damage is done sadly.I'd say this is good news.
He certainly deserves to leave after the buy the Xbox 360 comment...
Since Mattrick took over Xbox division we got the new horrible dashboard, forced advertising, Indie scene & XBLA abandonment, Xbox one etc etc I would say he should have left 2-3 years ago in that time Sony have won customers over whilst under his tenure MS have lost the hardcore gaming crowd & gained the casual audience whilst also going out of their way to send gamers to Steam from XBLAHe certainly deserves to leave after the buy the Xbox 360 comment...
Isn't July 1st the start of Microsofts new fiscal year?
If the rumour is true it may be partly to do with interal restructuring. He may have been due a demotion due to the poor PR with Xbox, and instead chose to leave. All speculation. I have no idea.
Why? What do you suggest should have been his answer to that question?
He shouldn't have backed himself into that position. Online and diskless or offline with the disk in the tray. With that comment he might as well have said buy the PS4 if you need to play offline.

IMO he is unemployable in this industry now![]()
Are you seriously suggesting he should have said buy a PS4?
No, did I say that? I'm saying he played directly into Sony's hands, if you are looking for a next gen console but need to have offline access are you a) going to buy a last gen console or b) buy the competitors product that is just as good if not better than the Microsoft offering?
Any news on the Halo TVshow? I'm a big fan of Sci fi TV, So with Steven Spielberg giving the show the epic treatment. I'm very interested.
Well now you are avoiding the question, what should he have said to that question. You didn't say he should have been fired for trying to bring an always connected console to the market. You said he should have been fired for that answer. What should his answer have been?
"I can understand peoples frustrations with our always-online system, that is why we changed it to a 24hr check in to minimise the impact to our playerbase. Our vision of a seemless, integrated next-gen gaming ecosystem relies on the internet to bring its great, unique features."
