**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Looks like an impressive console! looking forward to it. Would be nicer if it was a bit thinner I think. I hope its a slot loading drive too!

How much do you think they sell them for? would £250-£300 be wishful thinking?

And when the servers fall over and die like Simcity servers, still won't bother you then? or years on, feel like going back and playing a classic and the servers are gone, still all good?

I don't think MS will have an issue with servers that would last more than a few days, if that (heck they have had one outage, if that that lasted more than a few days on 360 and even that didn't affect all users). I am sure you can agree that MS own the server market worldwide (software wise) so this is their bread and butter, not a part time hobby :)

When the servers are gone argument - People were up in arms when EA or some other company turned off servers to a 5 year old game or something. In practice very little happened and it probably upset a small vocal minority, who just moved on and played a newer iteration of their favourite game.

This is a mass market device, it will please the majority and niche cases like you describe are a non issue for people outside of this forum imo.

probably won't get this.

If prefer a games only console. But can see why they are on the route they are
Only really have a console for local coop so it's a bit pricy
Used game is a problem. Have never bought a new game for xbox
I saw mention of xbox live requirement as I have never had this

Can't watch steam here as net is too slow

Where did you get the idea that MS own the server market software wise?. Not a chance :D

I meant in the sense they sell the market leading Server software to most world leading companies, fortune 500 etc. Apart from not backing it up with numbers, am I wrong by a massive amount, or missing something obvious?

Pretty much *nix runs everything - MS server stuff is tiny compared IIRC

EDIT: Actually I think its about 3:1
EDIT2: Actually I might be just recalling webservers, so ignore me :p

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.

"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.

So the 'fee' is full retail price. MS really are doing there best to push people to the PS4 and that's what i'll be getting. MS can stick the Xbox One up there bottom.

Ah, but now you are not comparing like for like!! Multiple different flavours/brands/implementations of Unix compared to just Microsoft's server operating systems.

Perhaps I should have said Microsoft sell more copies of their server operating system than any other vendor, but the end result is the same, MS know a lot about Server software and the cloud, which is relevant to the topic in hand :)

Not to mention you need to connect to the internet at least once before you can even play your game.

I guess this will put an end to people getting games a few days early.

Here's how the system works: when you buy an Xbox One game, you'll get a unique code that you enter when you install that game. You'll have to connect to the Internet in order to authorize that code, and the code can only be used once. Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Tbh I dont think you are far out, I realised I was only thinking about web servers, your original point though is still sound...

Actually that's a good point, I wonder if they'll be lenient and let the codes be activated a day or two before release, or if they'll just lock it so the game is playable from the actual release date only.

Surely if US still has the trend to get games on a Tuesday/Wednesday we will still be ok if we get the game a few days early? Unless they do it by region? :(

Ugly and shame it's got blue ray, ditch physical media and save on the cost, boost the hard drive capacity.

...what?

Do you know what size modern games are? Do you know how long it would take to download some games? That would leave anyone with a mediocre connection up a metaphorical creek without a means of propulsion.

Broadband coverage and average speed not only in the UK, but also in the US, still is not at a stage where a device aiming for as large a market as possible can switch to download only. The PSP Go failed for a reason.

It's glaucus, what did you expect?

They will just remove the need for them when the new one is released and they aren't worried about piracy.

In all honesty the specs from both sides this gen have left me scratching my head and leaving me feeling lack lustered.

Why? What were you expecting from a £300-400 system?

prance about? we are talking about a games console here. I do not wish to prance or dance in front of a machine.
I want a very powerful computer to play the very best video games.

We really need to start again. A games machine should be a very exciting thing. This machine should have a Virtual Reality Unit goggles. Otherwise boring

Christ, buy an Oculus and build a gaming PC then. That's obviously what you want.

This is going to be a great console, just because of the fact that it has been so long since we have had new consoles. If the original Xbox lasted for 4 years before the 360 came out then this has been closer to an 8 year gap. Think how much better graphics cards and CPUs have gotten in 8 years.

I bought both a 360 and a PS3 last time round. I don't much care for Gran Turismo, Metal gear solid or Killzone so much anymore so probably just going to buy the Xbox One this time around as Halo and Gears of War are my favourate games.
