I've gone with Shopto so far for both consoles, Asda you can pay £20 for a PS4 pre-order (guaranteed?) but other sites like Amazon and the MS store itself only seem to have holding pages at the moment where you can sign up for updates.
 
yawn.....yet another Black Ops, Fifa, Forza, Madden. Are they actually going to come up with anything new??

I quite like the look of the console but I really only want to play games and don't want all the crap that comes with it. I think they should release a lite version for gaming only.

Do you really want all of the multimedia options??

When the servers are gone argument - People were up in arms when EA or some other company turned off servers to a 5 year old game or something. In practice very little happened and it probably upset a small vocal minority, who just moved on and played a newer iteration of their favourite game.

This is a mass market device, it will please the majority and niche cases like you describe are a non issue for people outside of this forum imo.

I a way I agree with you but in reality with Office365 and Outlook becoming cloud based services there are complaints they things arent working as they should be for a % of users. Now I would guess that 9x% are all OK but if you were part of that small% where it wasnt working and you couldnt activate your new game or use some of that online media stuff then you arent going to be too happy about it
 
It will look much nicer in my AV rack than the 360 anyway.

And people moaning about the lack of games shown? This was a console reveal, the games will come at E3.

Exactly. People need to realise this is meant to be a piece of AV equipment that fits in with everything else under your TV, not just a games console that looks like a George Foreman grill, or some other bizarre shape that a 5 year old created.

I'd expect the PS4 to look equally as understated, although perhaps slightly more styled going by the leaked video.

Makes me howl that for ages people have slated the 360 and PS3 designs, and now they get what they wanted they still complain!

Wtach the whole presentation, they have said there are about 8 totally new IP's coming to the One.

If you are going to be using this thing for tv and movies etc it really does need to be silent, Time will tell with that one. Used my ps3 with play tv and movies for years, as soon as the fans start to make any noise it becomes very very annoying :(. So much so I changed to silent separate items and a harmony remote. Not interested so far, But E3 is so close we all would be best to make true judgement after that.
 
So no point in getting used game if you to pay retail!

I'm guessing this is effectively now steam.
If steam make more local 2 player games I won't need an xbox at all
If prices go down like steam over time it will be ok, but for the few games I play I doubt it's worth buying.

If you have a htpc already then I can't see what this offers except for exclusives

Is there also some requirement to pay a subscription even if you don't play online?

Each to their own, but to me it's ugly as sin. Very cheap and light looking. Like a cheap htpc that's trying to look trendy. I'll get one anyway - I had the original and that was an abomination! - but it will be hidden at the back of the av rack!
 
What worries me is the same with every other product developed for the USA
The lack of support for many advertised features here in the UK and every other country.

Don't be surprised if we don't get any of the live TV services they spoke so much of

However..... I do plan on purchasing either the PS4 or Xbox one
I have no prejudice against either so i will decide which based on what they are going to offer closer to the time of release :D
