**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

My smart TV was £550. Just saying.

Smart TVs are only smart as long as they are supported. The manufacturer will drop it like a hot-potato in a couple of years to encourage you to upgrade. I can't get Netflix on my 2011 Panasonic. It will be perfectly capable of running the app, but they restricted it to 2012 onwards sets.

This sort of shenanigans won't happen with the Xbox/Playstation products.

I buy a TV for the picture quality. If they want to add fluff like Smart features and 3D that's fine, but I won't buy on that basis.

I'm not sure what to make of the specs, going with a weaker graphics processor then your main competitor seems risky to me especially 3, 4 years down the line when developers will scratching around trying to get every last bit of performance out of the sub system. Then again weaker hardware didn't stop the Nintendo Wii from being a runaway success.

Yes it's interesting but a difference we probably won't see until the latter years of the lifecycle, and even then only in first party titles. Lowest common denominator means most things (third party) will be geared towards the xbox firstly. Plus we don't really know the effect of the embedded SRAM, and you can never discount the incredible quality of Microsoft's development tools and compilers. They are the kings of software, no two ways about it.

Dont forget 2 OSes that run at the same time within a hypervisor - both will have dedicated resources allocated too...

Hardcore console gamers have the attention span of a knat and repeatedly buy the same CoD games over and over again, and get fleeced for DLC. I place no credence in their snap judgements that form blinkered opinions.

They hated the Wii cause of it's wimpy specs and "gimmicky" controller. It went on to sell millions and opened up casual gaming to many more. The money isn't in the hardcore gaming market.

Hardcore gamers don't like COD. only the most casual players do...

There won't be much in it. It's in the interest of multiplatform developers to make the XOne and PS4 versions look as similar as possible, so if there is a discrepancy in power, they will build the game around the lower spec. If it was aimed at the higher spec, the lower spec version might have performance problems, which is simply going to lose them sales.

The first party studios will be able to squeeze more quality out of each box, and will be difficult to compare exclusive titles.

The Xbox One is probably going to flop on the basis that they are basically moving away from the target markets that gave them the edge with the 360, ie. the hardcore gamers.

That's not at all correct

XBOX ONE

It's the FIRST generation of a new product, an entertainment system. IF it was a games console with added bits it would be the xbox 3

No, whilst others have tired of correcting crap like this, I'm going to set you straight.

1) Where you have pulled that nonsense from, I don't know.

2) It's Xbox "One", because it's an all encompassing device. e.g. "ONE" device that does everything.

Its not going to, if MS get the games people want to play it makes little difference what other multiple cross-sections they are targetting...

Tell me exactly how you think they are moving away from targetting 'hardcore' (whatever that means) gamers.
