**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Yes we do

General consensus seems to be we infact dont :p

BUT, As bonuses we cant exactly say its a bad thing. Depends on what they've given up to implement to features. What has running 3 OS's and keeping instant switching available done for system memory. 8GB RAM. Thats plenty of memory yes, But how much is always going to be available for games

Looks like the os is going to eat a fair chunck.

Ok, time to abandon thread, it's all getting a bit silly now and no one is going to persuade anyone else to change their mind either pro Xbox or PS4.

Besides, everyone knows a semi decent PC knocks both of the toy gaming machines into a cocked hat for graphics. ;) :p

To be fair, I hadnt mentioned anything Sony. People are too quick to defend, as though there is an enemy at the gates.

I simply pointed out that massive chunks of memory dedicated to OS's(3GB!! by the looks of that link posted =\) Is going to hurt a systems potential, with regards to gaming.

And then the usual, OMG DON'T YOU DARE SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE, troops crop up.

I suppose the memory footprint will drop lower and lower as the life of the console goes on, It did this time around. I think PS3's memory footprint is tiny compared to when it was first released. So hopefully that 3GB hogged can be reduced some over time.

Just don't think people appreciate that the games will be much of a muchness on both systems, yet the Xbox has far more functionality.

well ive got both ps3 and 360 this gen ....and my initial purchase was 360 , in part to the initial hd-dvd semi support.. but during the lifetime of both the ps3 gets more use as it's now my main blu-ray player as well.

from what i've seen so far , ps4 will get my attention this time arround , as all this kinnect / move rubbish doesnt interest me , and imo adds to teh price of features i dont want or use

I wasn't aiming it at you specifically, just a general realisation that the last 5 pages have been "XBOX One sucks, it's for watching telly and doing silly waving your arms games, PS4 is where it's at for gamers and pwns Xbox, I'm buying PS4 because I want to play games not watch telly" followed by "no it's not, there's loads of games announced and stuff coming at E3 and you will probably never notice the difference between them", smartly moving to "yes you will notice the difference, XBOX sucks M$", "no it doesn't, you suck", "no, you suck..." :D

Some people are quite interested in Xbox as a good all-round gaming and media device, some dislike that idea and think PS4 will be pure gaming focus, and others just think PS4 will be more powerful so will be what they want.

Interestingly no one has really seen what the games will look like properly yet and if there's any difference likely in the real world.

Still, it seems to have reached the point where no one is persuading anyone else of their point of view, hence the "time to abandon thread". Unless there's new info it's just going to go around in circles now until E3, at which point a variation on a theme debate will kick off once we see some gaming news :)

My gut feel is there really is just too many unknowns at the moment, but it feels like MS are going for a wider audience than just hardcore gamers this time. We won't know if that's a good or bad thing for a couple of years. If they get it right it could be significant as it could open the market up to much, much bigger numbers than just a pure console could achieve. I suspect if the specs are correct and nothing else changes PS4 will get an early lead as it's the hardcore gamers who are likely to spend top dollar to buy on release. Xbox may make ground back by being "good enough" for gaming and doing a bunch of other things that are becoming increasingly of interest to a lot of people outside of dedicated gamers for the under the TV spot. Much like now though unless you get your rocks off looking at the monthly sales numbers I think there's more than enough room in the market for both and both will do as well or better than the existing models.

it'll be interesting to see if the DDR 5hits the PS4 price or if Sony have deep pockets to subsidise, price could be crucial. If PS4 released at £499 and Xbox £399 that could make a big difference much like last time, especially for the crucial first Christmas sales. Saying that, Sony could go all in and risk it all by doing a massive subsidy releasing at £299 for example and doing a massive market land grab.

Either way, given the x86 architecture it bodes well for PC gaming ;)

Xbox has far more functionality.

But does it?

I don't know about you but when I'm watching TV and I want to search for something on the internet, I wouldn't start waving my arms about or talking to the XBOX to do this... I'd just use my tablet or smartphone. No overlays on screen distracting from anyone else's viewing pleasure.

I really don't understand why you would have a Sky box, for example, then hook it up to an XBOX just to watch TV with an XBOX overlay? To use your Sky features you'll still have to go back to your original box...

Both Sony and Microsoft will do Netflix, YouTube etc but Microsoft will require a Gold subscription to access these features?

Be honest, the general consensus is people DO want Kinect. I think it was the best selling item on Amazon for like 12 months or something silly like that, which speaks volumes. I don't think there is anything wrong with the technology, it's just there was a lot of focus on it in the presentation.

Same with TV, people do want it, they just don't know it yet. I know that sounds weird, but look at Touch Screen phones and Tablets. People said they didn't want them but they did, they just needed the right implementation (Apple).

I don't think MS will "crack" the TV market with this, As Google have tried pretty much the same thing with Google TV. They offer very similar functionality, just at a much higher price point and with the added bonus of playing good games on it. But, who knows, if Apple don't release an Apple i/TV product soon, maybe MS will gain a large share of this "Smart" TV market, without actually selling a TV!

I watch so little TV that I don't care for this added functionality. If it cost the same as a PS4 though, or less, and released first then I may be swayed.

Did MS not sell about 25 million Kinect units? no idea how someone can then say it's not wanted when clearly there is a market for MS there.

No point in any of this discussion.

Gameplay will answer pretty much all questions, so E3 is going to be pivotal.

I'm a 360 gamer.. Yet I am interested in both consoles.
Not sure I could live without Halo tho..

What for? It can't be for the games, which Kinect games are really system selling AAA titles? Kinect titles are all Dance or party type shovelware that can be found in any supermarket bargain bin for a fiver. Does anyone actually use it regularly for gaming? Who uses voice commands in games or on the dashboard?

The sales of Kinect don't make it a legitimate necessity for gamers, look how many Wiis sold & look how badly the WiiU has tanked.

I know it seems like I'm being overly objective but I really can't get my head around it.

I'm no Sony fanboy either, I've been firmly an Xbox guy since the beginning. Walked a mile into town to pick up my original Xbox that I had on preorder, carried the bloody thing all the way back too! Camped out for the 360 launch, endured 9 XBOX 360 failures and was still firmly an XBOX guy. :D

Probably because the type of people that watch reveals, the type of people that create reveal review videos and the type of people on this type of forum aren't really interested in anything other than games. They don't like change, funny shapes or outdoors either though :p
