**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Unless they have a superb showing at E3 Microsoft have lost a lot of gamers with this focus on multi-media, gamers are the early adopters in the games console market (strange but true) not people looking for a media centre.
This is how it is for me. I've no interest what-so-ever in a media centre, all I want a console for is to play games. I've owned 5 Xbox's (original and 360) and have only ever used them for games. They're taking a gamble to try and get people other than gamers to buy the device, but it might actually push a lot of gamers away.

Anyone got any confirmations on the distance required for Kinect now?

In the videos it looks greatly improved and I think I read somewhere that minimum distance is something like 3 feet now, as the wide angle lense has a 60% better field of view?

Immensely pleased I'll now be able to voice activate my setup:

"Hi TV, Power On"

"Xbox On"

Thanks Samsung & Microsoft! :D

It's certainly pushed me away. was 100% getting the next Xbox as I've thoroughly enjoyed the Xbox and Xbox 360.

After watching the reveal I'm now pretty certain i'll go with a PS4.

Nothing in the reveal made me want the Xbox One. A load of TV stuff I don't care about, and probably won't even work in the UK anyway. Smartglass that is as pointless on the One as it is on the 360. Massive Kinect integration that I won't use. Skype video chat that's of no use to me. Forced game activation and no 2nd hand market, and then on top of that they've also purposely gimped the hardware (less SP, DDR3, and higher OS overhead).

The only thing that is slightly making me hesitate about preordering a PS4 right now is the possible exclusives on the One.

I really really love Forza, GoW, and HALO. But I don't know if I can put up with all the other crap and limitations MS have introduced with the One.

I'll see what E3 brings, then make my decision.

don't they do surveys before they develop these things?

Also Xbox One name does sound a bit rubbish , although its only a name they should have gone higher than 360 like was touted with 720

Xbox One won't support current headsets source

According to the source, the propriety data port means Microsoft can control the production of third party peripherals with licensing and authentication standards that manufacturers will be required to meet.

"We are working with 3rd party headset manufacturers to create new headsets that will take full advantage of the Xbox One technology,"

So basically MS want to make sure they make a load of money from any 3rd party headsets.

How amazing would it be if Sega had just been sat back watching for the past decade, waiting for the right moment to release a beastly new console! Shenmue 3, Crazy Taxi remade with a sprawling recreation of San Francisco, Streets of Rage remade with proper physics, next gen graphics and a remastered soundtrack. They'd bring back Sega Bass Fishing and the controller attachment just for the lolz too. :D

Ohh dont get me all hot and bothered! I would be all over a new Sega like a rash lol.

Yes they do, we are the minority. It's quite weird if you look in the mainstream press the response has been overwhelmingly positive (http://kotaku.com/mainstream-media-reacts-to-the-xbox-one-509243303).
They've really aimed the console launch as more of a Consumer Electronics launch an Apple event rather than a gaming launch. Hopefully E3 will be more like the latter though, and we'll get clarification (and real scenarios) about this activation malarkey. If it's like Steam I'm down with that, physical media is so 90's.

Shocking that MS want to make money!!! I am deffo going with Sony as they don't do anything to make money :)

I'm well aware MS want to make money but it's the way they go about it. Sounds like everything for this console will need to be "official" and so it will cost twice as much as it should do.

Xbox One wont be compatible with current headsets, im getting closer and closer to saying **** you M$ my Astros are now a waste of money.

I have no problem with the Xbox one coming with motion & voice control and even all the Tv stuff. My problem is its looking like these cannot be turned off which for me who has no interest in any of it is a pain. Please MS include as much as possible but also allow us to turn it off and not force it upon us if we just want to enjoy the games with the controller.

Again being presumptuous. There could well be an adapter for the port.

"On the other hand, the proprietary format could offer significant improvements to the chat audio experience. The new data port reportedly supports stereo audio, potentially for the purpose of delivering game audio directly from the controller or simply boosting mono chat audio in the current-gen to stereo. In the case of the latter, stereo chat audio could lead to virtualized directional communications, allowing players to hear where a nearby player is speaking from — a feature currently found in PC titles like ARMA 2."

So it's hardly like they're doing it just to screw people over, it's a technological boost.

thing I need to know is what have sony not told us yet, we don't know there plans for second hand games. what if the small fee is £2-3 quid? and goes straight to devlopers?
i'm a 360 owner and very undecided on which way to go at the moment. both console reveals weren't good, sony revealed no console but showed games and not much else where as Microsoft showed the console and media stuff but not much in gaming. I think E3 will be huge for both sony and Microsoft. what if sony decide to charge for second hand games to? will this be a uproar to?
Microsoft did say that there wouldn't be many games at the console launch but I need to see what E3 brings off them and see proper games not kinnect games that appeal to whole family I wanna see Halo, Gears type games that are for gamers
