**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

I did want the next MS console, hell you'll even find me to be a big fan of Windows 8 round here.

This abortion on the other hand?

No, just no.

You'd have to be a complete fool to even touch it as it stands.

The machine is encrypted, the network is encrypted and the user requirements to even get it to play the stuff you have paid for are off the charts.

Crazy.

Will the PS4 itself be less locked down? I doubt that very much. 360 and PS3 dont allow you online with modded machines, so why would the One and PS4? Apart from the always on Kinect, it is no different.

You want all your details on an unencrypted network? Really?

Recently? Must have missed that, was busy playing CoD TDM probably.

It did go down a few months back, but i dont think it was for 2 weeks.

If you were signed into the network it was fine too, it was only when you signed out you couldnt get back onto it.

Also I believe it stopped you communicating with friends, Infact I think it's that which went on for a few weeks. Connecting was only down for a few days, maybe even just 1 day. I didnt play it enough to notice :D

Not sure if serious? Who designs a global network serving tens of millions and doesn't expect to get hacked? Live pays towards maintenance and upgrades, PSN just doesn't have access to the money to do that. Sony also has much less incentive to keep the PSN in tip-top condition, its a free service after all, Microsoft HAVE to look after it to keep the Gold subscriptions coming in.

You're absolutely right. Sony decided to just let it happen and they don't give two shiny bowel movements whether or not their online service is operational or not.

Christ almighty.

There was a point, early into both consoles lifespans where Xbox Live was far superior to the online services provided by Sony. This gap has closed over the years to the point where the only real thing people could use to decide which console to go for came down to two things: Friends and Exclusives.

Each offering provides a fantastic service to those wishing to play with others all over the world with only minimal downtime. One you pay for, one you don't.

Even the most die-hard Xbox fans will admit that making services they already pay for such as Netflix inaccessible unless you have an active Live subscription is ridiculous. Personally, I believe that online gaming is now a core element of the gaming experience and should not be something that is only enabled through subscription. Every other gaming platform allows free online gaming.

I do remember not being able to get into a party with friends for a couple of days. I should have demanded my £90 a year back!

There was a huge outage in the last 8 years.

So not recently then? There was something one weekend in April, but that was hours.

I can't remember any major outage on Live since it's launch, if by major you mean more than 1 continuous 24 hour period.

Microsoft's Skype communication is encrypted(Using AES)

I don't have the key.

Skype.

I can shut down the exe when I don't want the camera on. I can unplug the camera and my programs still work.

I can verify it's off, and there's no traffic going to MS.

With Xbone, network traffic only goes to ms, the box is encrypted so I have no idea what it's running, the camera has to be plugged in or it won't work and all network traffic is encrypted.

It's completely the same as "Skype."

I'm not embarrassed to say I use my 360 everyday, there is no chance in hell live was down for one week let alone two! I remember it was pretty bad at Christmas a few years back but even that it was just a temperamental service not down.

Live is very consistent at being 'up'.

I remember live being down for about 6 hours recently-ish but considering I/you/we/the general informed public pay about 8.3p per day (£30 per year) I was willing to let it slide without a lawsuit this time.

Over 2 weeks.

You keep saying that, but you have actual xbox players in here telling you it isn't true! I have seen it iffy with party chat (how do I use party chat with friends in other games on PS3 btw?) but never have I been unable to play online for more than a couple of hours, and even that is very rare.

I have both systems, and Live is just flat out more stable than PSN.
