**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

So MS want to know what channels you watch whilst forcing you to connect a camera, mic and be connected to the Internet via a heavily encrypted connection to which you don't have the key.

They also want to charge you about 50 quid a year for the privilege....

You have to be a complete mug to even consider it surely?

As in a proper mug.

You're just worried the xbox one will watch you whilst you fap.

i think people are calling it xbone, because they feel as though microsoft are bending them over and shafting them with a tv multimedia device, rather than a games console sadly.

It's just a simple abbreviation like Psone, Pstwo. MS should have thought about the naming a bit more, it's not our fault that the most obvious abbreviation makes it sound like a dog chew.

Which from what we have been told and shown so far is exactly how the majority of the world perceives it from the initial announcement.

That's not to say that they don't have things in store for the gaming platform that we will see at e3 I'm really hoping that we do. I like a bit of competition in the market!

My initial impressions are that it definitely seems more focused on being an all in one media device, which although novel is not what most people were expecting or perhaps wanting! :p

There are people in this thread that keep saying that the whole announcement was for the features of the console, but shouldn't the main feature of a games console be the games?

Again that's just my opinion and I'm all up for discussing the pro's and con's of the new console. :D

But the PS one is called the PS one and you pronounce it 'P S One'. you dont say 'p-sone'. Or do you? do you call the ps2 the 'pea stoo' ???

It's a valid abbreviation consistent with psone & pstwo, how people choose to read it is their own choice. For me it has stuck due to the terrible launch and funny boned related jokes which followed it and references to the Call of Duty dog.

If people are finding it childish then they must be reading it as X-bone themselves, otherwise it wouldn't bother them.

Can't remember ever having seen the Playstation referred to as pstwo, Psthree or even Psfour, just PS2, PS3, PS4 which would make it XB1 /shrug

Pretty much why I am buying it :p

Yes, MS imitated the less successful console ...

They have in a way. The PS3 took a hit in specs so they could afford to stick a Blu ray drive in each one to use it as a trojan horse. I bought a 360 at launch as I didn't quite agree with the strategy then either.

Same thing MS are doing, but MS are taking the trojan horse thing to another level.

There has to be a reason why they want a camera and mic in every living room with such unwavering stubbornness.

Normally I wouldnt drag myself into this pettiness, but none of the PS systems other than the slimmer PSone, use words for the number, so actually XBONE is actually correct using your own logic rather than your suggested XB1...

I still prefer XO, though XBONE, seems to already gained some emotion behind it - though there are far more interesting topics to discuss than the accepted contraction and how to pronounce it, the inferred sentiment is the readers issue...

ps3ud0

Agree with this, it's exactly how I see is, hell the PS2/3 actually had PS2/3 emblazoned on it!

Their marketing must have missed it, companies spend fortunes to ensure stuff like that can't happen.

You can't abbreviate Playstation down to Gaystation. XBOX ONE can be abbreviated to Xbone expecially when the Xbox brand was already abbreviated to XB regularly.

any info yet on can we operate the console without shouting at it? gonna get rather unpopular at 2am waking the house up otherwise.

Surely it's just "Xbox One" or "Xbox".

I don't see the need to abbreviate it / make up daft names.

I never saw all the fuss about "George foreman grill" etc with the PS3 either. Or Sony claiming "Toy Story graphics!", or the BS "Emotion Engine"!!
