**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Glad I jumped back to PC gaming last year!

It's not like we can sell our Steam or Origin games is it? I'm much more bothered about the new release prices which left a bitter taste in the mouth on launch of the last gen consoles.

The only thing that bothers me is not being able to bring my game round to a friends house to play.

Yes but you get a lot more generous prices faster on PC.

Also generally more moneys worth with PC games as communities keep games alive for a lot longer with mods etc.

Just my thoughts here but it is way to early for all this negativity against the Xbox One until Microsoft confirm/deny the multitude of rumours that are floating about regarding all this pre-owned game issue/other issues, until then they are simply that, just rumours.

Although I was wanting more from the reveal I can see that Microsoft wanted to keep a lot of info close to their chest until Sony announced more about their console (will Sony be first to demo at E3 this year?). So I think this year's E3 actually has some relevance rather than just announcing the usual market numbers, rehashed ip's and the odd exclusive title. We obviously should be finding out release dates and by my basic detective skills I would expect either the last week or October/ first week of November to coincide with the release of a number of titles such as COD:Ghosts (5/11/2013)

Yes Microsoft could have offered more in the reveal but it was never going to cover all the new features of the unit, just showing where they think the market is going and I have to say we are finally getting to that unified all in one system that MS tried to promote with "Media Centre" back in the early 2000's. (Yes I probably won't use half the features and they did seem to be geared towards the US market)

I'm not sure why people have so much of an issue with the various "always on"/"must have kinnect" connected etc. No doubt most people have smartphones and I don't see people making too much of an issue with the various location tracking features that most people take for granted as being always on.

I am sure there will be options to turn these features on and off but it is nice to see that Microsoft have thought about the Kinnect in the wider context and included it as standard (Yes it will bump up the price but it does give an extra incentive for developers to try and use the Kinnect in their games)

As for the second hand issue to me that is a non-issue. I always buy my games brand new, yes I pay more but I like the fact that it is mine and hasn't been somewhere else being mistreated. I can see how this may detract some users from the system but we are unsure what Sony's policy will be and until they announce it again everything is just rumours. (Unless they have announced something since the Xbox reveal)

Personally I am just excited to see we have some new consoles and that they are getting worldwide release at the same time rather than region by region (I presume Microsoft/Sony will be doing a worldwide release).

As for a pure tech side of things the Xbox traditionally hasn't been at the bleeding edge of the technology curve and I don't think they ever will be they want to go with mainstream components that development teams are familiar with from the PC development cycles and allows games in the 3rd/4th year to start extracting the most out of the hardware (I presume it is at this point that talks for the next console start to surface). Has a PS3 title ever been able to max out the hardware like we have seen with the Xbox 360? (Although I own a PS3 it is purely for Blu-ray)

I am sure there is more about this that I can ramble on about but I think that is enough for now.

Wow, i mean seriously, I've never seen a company try so hard to completely ruin there reputation.

It strikes me that they aren't trying at all. There's been very little said about DRM - the vast majority is speculation (including this article).

Discuss by all means, but bare in mind the speculative nature of the discussion. The inability to separate speculation from reality has to be the biggest bane of internet discussion (see anything written before the release of any iPhone for great examples). Maybe they will use this system, maybe they won't. Patents get filed for stuff that could be used all the time.

On the article in question, all I see is something that could be put in place one day for unknown use. As Eurogamer speculates, Microsoft could potentially stream new release films via the Xbox on the same day as the cinematic release and use the camera technology to charge a 'per ticket' price for viewing. Or it could be used to make quick and approximate checks of a user's age (i.e. no more 8-year-olds playing 18-rated games). Or the technology could be put in place for more negative uses. Or it might never get used. We don't know.

Pretty much everything we have on the PS4 and Xbox1 is speculation. It is kind of silly for us all (me included) to get our knickers in a twist over what is basically little more than rumors.

DRM talk is speculation
Hardware specs is speculation
Someone at MSHQ watching me fap is speculation (wishful thinking on my part)

I don't like the always online rumor, it is rare but peoples connection can be flaky sometimes. I have maybe 2 or three hours downtime every few months, so no deal breaker for me but could be annoying when it happens.
Always watching Kinect doesn't bother me at all really. I know it will some, I just have less worries about my privacy than others. But at the end of the day, you can turn off your xbox at the wall when not using it if it is that much of a bother.

I haven't read the thread, but there seemed to be lots of people moaning across the usual social channels when it was announced. I couldn't see the problem personally, I thought everything about it looked awesome!

Says the Canadian to the rest of the world......

It's 5-6 months from release....

Nope MS are first at E3, and I assume you mean they wanted to keep the amazing games close to their chests? Or the fact that it's a very expensive remote control that plays Fifa & COD?

What feature's? Unified all in one box, what the one where by you still need your cable box/dvr..... It's so far away from being all in one that's it's not funny.

Because it serves zero benefit to the consumer, i.e. us

Nope doesn't look like you can turn Kinect off, and yay more Kinect games

I'm sure it will be the same with Sony, and for most gamers (you excluded) it won't be good news as a lot of fund new game purchases with traded in games.

Agreed, although as it stands both companies should be ashamed of what they have shown.

Nope they want to monopolise gaming like everything else so they can screw everyone over for every penny/cent they can.

Yeah they did, think only unknowns are clock speeds...

ps3ud0

No, they didn't.

We know it has 8GB of ram and an 8 core AMD CPU, that's it for raw power. We don't know clock speed, cache, GPU. Anything more than that is rumor.

Nope a lot of things were derived/discussed from the architecture panel at the reveal, things like the capabilities of the GPU. Think you are a bit deluded to think its still just rumours...

Go on then, specs with citations?

"No" would have been a lot less typing.
But yet it would have been inaccurate. Hey if it barks like a dog and looks like a dog, but you need to mate with it and check if you have human-dog babies, go right ahead :D. Just please, turn Kinect around...

The only thing I've got from the Xbone launch so far is it takes some sort of HDMI input and overlays a UI over it.

I don't have a source for HDMI, actually I don't have a TV signal at all in my house - and don't particularly want one. The tiny bit of TV I watch is time-shifted iPlayer or HD without adverts and such via iPlayer. (2 or 3 hours a week maximum)

So far people are assuming that the speculation is right, purely on small amounts of data.

Oh we were right about 8core x86? The rest must be right too!
It has a GPU, ok we must have been right about which one!
We know now know it has bluray, so we must have been right about its speed!
