**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Again though if your only planning on one console why base your decision on a handful of launch titles when over the lift span of the console they will be largely insignificant in the grander scheme of things.
Probably makes sense to look at lifespan of first/second party game support - how I based my decision...

Yes, I can agree with that, but I would also say that right now we have no idea how the long term will pan out. Just because the PS4 is more powerful doesn't mean it'll be the better console in 5 years time. MS might come up with some killer app that Sony doesn't have, or maybe scores some amazing exclusive games. When it comes to games consoles, power should never be the be all and end all IMO. It's a factor in the argument, not the whole argument on its own.

I would also say though, as I've said before, that just because you choose a particular console now, it doesn't stop you selling it and changing to the other console down the line. Also, I think it's a fairly rare gamer in this day and age who doesn't, at some point during the console lifespan, own both consoles. I'm getting an Xbox One to start as I know I will prefer the games that will be available, but I also know I will get a PS4 at some point.

Yeah I just think at least knowing the tech has an edge helps minimize the risk somewhat. However yeah I agree we have no idea what the big franchises will be this generation and which console will have them. It's a bit of a guessing game at this point.

The guessing game is why I don't think anyone should say "Console X is the only console I'll buy this generation". By all means pick one, and have a favourite, but as you said, either console could end up with some amazing exclusive that changes people's mind. Imagine if the next gen Mass Effect series was Xbox One only? Or PS4 only? Unlikely as that is, something along those lines would certainly make people consider buying another console.

Microsoft is building its own cloud gaming service. Company officials demonstrated a prototype of the service during an internal company meeting today. Sources familiar with the meeting revealed to The Verge that Microsoft demonstrated Halo 4 running on a Windows Phone and PC, both streaming the game from the cloud. We're told that the concept service runs smoothly on both devices, and that Microsoft has managed to reduce the latency on a Lumia 520 to just 45ms.

We understand that Microsoft is building the service as a way to stream games to its Windows devices. Microsoft's demonstration included a Windows Phone with a Xbox controller attached through an accessory, and a low-end hybrid PC. Microsoft has not yet branded the cloud games service, and officials stressed it was simply prototype at this stage. It appears to be an answer to Sony's acquisition of Gaikai's streaming technology that the company plans to use for PS3 and PS4 game streaming sometime in 2014.

Microsoft has been gradually building a cloud service for Xbox One games, but the company also hinted that it may be able to stream older games to provide backwards compatibility. Microsoft's senior director of Xbox, Albert Penello, said "it could be more complicated things like rendering full games like a Gaikai and delivering it to the box," in a recent interview with Gamespot. "We just have to figure out how, over time, how much does that cost to deliver, how good is the experience

I'm in Spain for 4 weeks in dec/jan at the end of this year so I'm saving the bucks for that. When I get back I'll have a look at where we are after the dust has settled. Hopefully Titanfall will be as awesome as it looks which will make my decision easier.

Looking forward to the release of the Xbox One and PS4, got both on order as both have games that I want to play, November is going to be a very expensive month!

Interesting idea, but like Gaikai, really doesn't appeal to me too much. If I'm on my phone, the smaller mobile type games are the ones I'd want to play. I'm keeping my older console so backwards compatibility isn't really an issue either. Still, I'm sure it'll be useful for some people, and extra features never hurt.
Indeed, more interesting for me is if the technology also works to PC and tablet :)

I just want to play it on a big screen, not fussed about the cloud gaming bits really - I just want some decent next gen games to play :)

Looking forward to Halo and Titanfall whenever they finally get released though, and Destiny.

Its funny to think many of the people who worked on PGR are making the next gen PGR (Drive Club) on the PS4, such a confusing start to the next gen lol.

And to be fair, it fades in comparison to Forza 5. For a next generation title to be running at 30fps, with what has to be said pretty generic visuals is a poor effort.

30 FPS is fine as long as its stable. Tbh I expect the launch titles to not run as well as they will in a couple of years time. The same thing happened with the launch titles of this current gen.

This current gen wasn't running PC architecture, making it understandable there was optimisation overhead - it was all brand new.

Exactly, tbh some people take this whole 30/60FPS thing too far, certain games benefit from it but open world games should be fine at 30.
