Selling mine, playing on a 1080p TV doesn't yield any big benefits over the last gen consoles for me, sure 60fps is nice in some games but I have other consoles which are being neglected, I still have a load of stuff to play on the PS4.

I think I will be going PS5 in a couple of years time when I've upgraded my TV and things have settled down.

They don't even need to raise the price. I doubt there will be as many subscribers if they ever charge the "real" price of 10.99 a month. I suspect a large amount of people use the option to convert live into game pass for peanuts!

With the price of Xbox live as well it would be approaching 13.99 a month at normal prices which is expensive for a lot of people on top of many existing digital subs they may have.

I highly disagree with this, 120 quid a year is only two games worth. Even at full price Game Pass is highly fantastic, even more so when XGS and Bethesda start firing on all cylinders. MS are aiming for big releases every few months and smaller games each month to keep people subscribed. This will have even more value now that Sony are pushing £70 a game.

Why cancel when you get 100s of games and all brand new releases like Halo,Forza,Starfield,Elder Scrolls etc day 1 on game pass cheaper then two £70quid games.

Neither are great. You’re much better off getting a wired Sennheiser headset and connecting to the controller.

I really do want the convenience of a wireless headset. The Sonys sound fantastic with the "gaming" EQ I settled on, but its a bit of a pain having to chop n change from my music listening to gaming with them. the Vmoda mic I have coupled with it works great, but the audio jack on the elite controller is stuffed, so I need to get a headset with mic.

I'll have a good play with the Xbox ones today and see if I can get them to somewhere where its decent ... who knows, maybe I'm even less of an audio snob than I think I am :D ?

edit: the one big thing that would put me off massively, is if it sounds "tinny".

From what I've seen of the reviews, many are reviewing it for exactly what it is: an above-average gaming headset. They say the features are great for the price, and the sound is about where it should be for non-audiophile headphones. I'm happy with that tbh. The extra features and the design is what impressed me, so as long as they don't sound absolutely awful, I'll be happy with my purchase. I'm fed up of having a cable attached to the controller when I'm playing to be honest! I currently use HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro's and whilst they sound great, the inconvenience of a cable is what bugs me now.

I think you'e going to be quite happy with these, they're really not bad at all.
I had a moment when I thought they sounded awful, but then realised I had Dolby atmos and the accessories app both try to apply their EQ settings, playing tug of war.

I put Atmos to performance mode and let the system EQ do its thing. Can't quite decide if Atmos is actually better than Sonic yet, but thus far I think Sonic is better in COD cold war, and Atmos better in Prey (the only games I've played today)

I was swapping and between my headsets today, and given that the Sony XM3 are widely regarded as some of the best noise cancelling headphoens you can buy, for gaming, these really doesn't lag behind so badly. They're not as subtle / detailed as my XM3 are, but they're much better than the price would suggest and they're certainly not immersion breaking.

As everyone said so far, the bass is super heavy and needs to toned down a lot.

My EQ so far is just at bass boost off; 125HZ (-5), 250HZ (-1), 1kHz (-1), 4kHz(0), 8kHz(0).

My biggest gripe so far .... is the "new" plastic smell. With some new cars it makes me ill, and I've never experienced anything outside of brand new cars, until today. The new plastic smell makes me feel queasy and needs to go asap!

I have to disagree that neither are great, the tb 700 gen 2’s have great audio

They don’t, but I am comparing them to audio focused headsets not gaming ones. I have the Sennheiser PC360 and Game One headsets that both sound orders of magnitude better than the turtle beach.

I don’t know of any gaming peripherals maker that compares well to Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic.

Edit: Playing Hellblade really highlights how poor these Xbox wireless headsets are, it’s definitely going back.

Thanks for posting some constructive feedback and investigating the settings yourself. Most people would have just gone "Nope, crap" and then boxed them up for return when comparing them to expensive higher-quality headphones.

Sadly, it doesn't appear that mine will be coming today. Amazon say it's going to be delivered today but it's still yet to be dispatched, so I'll just be waiting I guess!

It’s just brute forcing an unoptimized engine designed for a different platform. A lot of previous generation games don’t run at a fixed 4k60.

Pretty much as most Fallout's have never run amazing on consoles and have even had their performance issues on PC's.

I think a new game designed from the ground up for these next gen consoles would be able to handle 4k/60 much better.

I'm afraid thats what I'll be doing today. I've tried messing with the EQ and Atmos settings and I cant live with that muddy base sound. My free Samsung phone headphones plugged into the controller even sound better.

You’re a funny man. I have adjusted all the way down to -9, -6, -2, 0, 0 and the bass still seems looser than... well I can’t make those jokes on this forum :p

They’re really very poor and it’s a shame as everything except the audio is great. They should have charged an extra £20 to make them entry level quality as right now they’re about the same quality as a £30 set of wired headphones.

Why does what I've posted make me funny? It's quite true that many comparisons I've read so far on Reddit and other places are comparing them with more expensive headphones, and that also some have stated that they shouldn't have to change settings out the box to get better sound and so will be returning them as they're inferior. If you've done the same testing as Supercow then that's awesome. I didn't say everyone would just send them back but my experience so far is that many are just dismissing them as no good when comparing with far better and that's that. I was grateful to Supercow for taking the time to post a good reply to my post.

It also seems that many that are reviewing them for what they are seem to be very happy with the results. For me personally, as long as they're on par with my HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro's, the extra features of automuting mic, the volume adjustment on the headset for game and party chat, the connectivity with another device at the same time, and the convenience of no cables, I'll be very happy with them.

They sound worse than my free Lenovo headphones that retail at around £30. I recently brought my son some cheap MPOW Bluetooth headphones from a deal on Amazon and tbh these sound about the same as the MS headset but we’re only £20. The MS headset just sounds muddled to me like it is struggling to reproduce what it’s being fed. I have spent a fair while tweaking the settings and you can make them sound better but tbh you can only polish a turd so far. I was really hoping these to be half decent as the delay using my Bose set is annoying but these are no way worth £90....

My son thinks they are fantastic so have given them to him. If they update them with a firmware and they sound better I will nab them back..... lol

I think the Arctis 9x are still a solid buy, they've got better with firmware updates, a slightly higher price tier I will admit but the positioning in Cold War with them is great. Some of the EQ profiles they provide are dreadful though and took some playing with. I use Dolby Atmos in Game mode, in Cold War I use the Treyarch setting rather than "headphones".

I think the problem with headsets is people get really snobby with them (the same as racing bikes and camera equipment) and think they have to spend £££ to get something decent. It's also very subjective.

I returned the Penrose X because I thought they weren't as good as the 9x, now I know that opens me up to abuse about "but they're Planar etc etc" but they just sounded worse in game, better for music (slightly) but as most of my music is Bluetooth via Spotify it's kind of a moot point really.
