What's the craic with keyboard and mouse support? Like if you have it plugged in and play a FPS game does it just work or does it do some weird controller emulation? I got half a Series X for my son's birthday in July (other half is for me heh) but with it being a pretty powerful machine I am contemplating try to run some shooters like the Halo series, Gears etc. I can't stand using controllers for shooting games so if I could get m&k working adequately that would be great.

There's no platform-wide keyboard and mouse support. It's selected titles only, added by the developers. There's no controller emulation happening in supported titles; it's notice K&M controls as you would see on PC.

Gears and Halo have K&M support.

Interesting game streaming announcements today:
  • Server hardware will soon be upgraded to Series X hardware (from Xbox One S hardware).
  • Streaming via Web browser is leaving beta.
  • By the end of the year, streaming will be available on Xbox consoles (new lease of life for Xbox One hardware?) and on some smart TVs and set-top boxes.
  • Microsoft are launching their own streaming stick, essentially a "streaming only" Xbox console.

Hopefully they'll also have improved local streaming from your own xbox series x, its bitrate is still to low. Rainway should fix that if integrated with all Series X's and not just cloud based ones although I haven't seen much on local streaming improvements.

COD MW & Cold War, Metro Exodus all support Kb&m natively, it's simply plug and play.

Looks like the Jedi Fallen Order Series S/X update is live, whopping 54gb download. Quite keen to see this, PC popped it's cloggs last night so might have a pop at this tonight.

Good question, I was wondering the same. Very helpful replies from @McPhee and @Arcane, I am dreadful when playing FPS using a pad. :)

Pretty smart from MS; the first step toward turning casual gaming into a Netflix/Prime type setup where you just have a streaming stick.
I just bought my second Xbox Series X and booted it up tonight; I only did the 3 year GamePass Ultimate upgrade thing this week; I'm genuinely amazed by the sheer volume of gaming that I can now download and access for free when you consider the Game Pass and EA Play stuff; they seem way ahead of anyone else on this just now.

Loving the X too. Not booted up my PS4 or PC in ages. The 60 fps upgrade on older games is great until next gen games proper start to drop.

Sea of Thieves with friends still my favourite game. Playing Dying Light.... How did i miss such a good game. It definitely doesn't look 6 years old!.

I tried to get into sea of thieves but really struggled. Is it one that’s pointless playing unless your partied with friends?

Yes, the entire game is about the adventure with your crew.

Without friends to trap in the brig when you've set the ship on fire, and it's slowly sinking while you play rise of the valkyries on your accordion, it's really dull.

Random crews are mostly miss rather than hit. Getting good at the game is best done as a solo sloop but It can be a brutally unfair game at times.

I mostly play the game with my two teenage sons and we are a well drilled unit when the action hots up. A mix of of adventures, PvE and PvP so always varied and interesting.

In summary, great game with friends.

Sounds like i need to find some friends  my xbox friends list has dwindled as I’ve hit mid 30’s, most mates don’t really find time to game these days

The last thing Microsoft needs is more sci-fi/military shooters, however polished they may be.

I got my PS5 the other day and just started playing Ghost of Tsushima....this is the sort of thing they need. Big AAA single player experiences that go beyond the gruff scifi cigar-smoking grey gun-toting genre....zzzzzz

Agreed, Microsoft has kind of become known as the FPS console, something they need to correct with single player AAA titles (that are not first person shooters). The noises they have been making in recent months suggest they going to do that but only time will tell.
