I was looking through gamepass today trying to find something half decent to play. I'd give them about £3 a month for it. My 3 years run out in November, I will just go back to gold and buy any games I fancy.

Yeah gamepass definitely seems to have gotten worse. It seems to be filled with shovelware.

I look at the games on PS extra and there’s far more games that match my taste, ratchet, miles, forbidden west etc.

Series X is pretty much a forza horizon machine for me.

I have an almost ocd like obsession to get as many reward points as possible so do end up playing random games, but whereas before I’d use them to redeem gamepass ultimate, I now use it for Amazon gift cards.

Mine now runs out in 2025 and I see no reason to keep extending it. That could change once I see more output from all their studios.

I’ll certainly be getting use out of it for forza motorsport and hopefully Starfield if it lives up to the hype.

Hopefully the upcoming first party games will make it worthwhile again. Starfield, stalker, forza motorsport etc.

Has anyone ever opened up their series x to clean the fan?

I was thinking about giving it a go as can see a light coating of dust on the fan and dust on the heat sink fins.

Just worried about breaking the seal to get to the screw.

Perhaps I shouldn’t worry and leave it as is, but just curious if others have opened their series x?

Unless you’re getting overheating warnings, I wouldn’t bother, it’ll have been engineered to withstand some dust.

Mine is pretty clear somehow, at most I’ll direct a hoover at the vents or a can of compressed air if it gets too bad.

How loud does it get?

If it was struggling to cool due to dust trust me they can get pretty loud. I put mine in a unit and forgot to leave the door open and I thought it was going to take off

Not very loud, heard it ramp up a few times in hot weather playing intensive games, I opened it anyway but didn’t take fan out, I just used some compressed air and used a toothbrush to clean the dust buildup on the heatsink.
Its a launch console so wasn’t fussed about opening and voiding warranty.

I might do mine at some point, it's out of warranty and I have a can of compressed air, it's definitely not as quiet as when I first got it. Did you follow any guides on YouTube or anything?

Yeah this one.

I just skipped the fan part, didn’t want to break anything, it looks easy enough though.

Trying to do the ingame updates for Flight Sim and having a nightmare. I set it all going which is going to take ages so I turn the tv over which hard resets the Xbox. I have tried turning the tv to a different hdmi not in flight sim and it’s fine. It seems the only way I can do the updates is to have the tv on and watch it very slowly update…All these updates that have to be done in game are a right pain in the arse.

Yeah in game update are a pain, especially if you have all the world updates.

The servers have been quite poor lately as well, with very slow download rates, might be ok now though?

Hoping FS2024 will improve this, I know 2024 is going to offload a lot of data to the cloud, so hopefully stuff like this won't be so long winded.

I had a great group fight yesterday, its amazing when you fly together, must have been about 25 of us all taking off and landing at various airfields.

Also had a great solo flight today from Edinburgh to Inverness, rainy with low cloud cover makes for such an impressive looking flight.

Finally ditching my Series X after not having even switched it on for several months, game pass on PC and no 100% exclusives are really harming things for XBOX IMO…

But aren’t they all on PC?
They are indeed, down to choice I guess. For me I like the separation between being on a PC all day for work and then moving to a different device for gaming which is also in a completely separate room to my office; over the years I've also invested a lot in my xbox library so happy to stay with it for now.

I do agree however that MS have had a bit of an inexcusable hole in quality games since the launch of the 'Series' generation, some of this is of course down to the timing of their investments and the development lead time required in game development. However, over the course of the next year the excuses have to stop, all those acquisitions have to start bearing fruit or even long term supporters like myself will be questioning if it is ever going to improve.
