  • Xbox One was more wanted than Series consoles.

Said this since the day it came out without a list of series x only exclusives. Part of the issue is timing in the world when it came out. Shortages of stock meaning they couldn't move the games to series consoles only. When the 360 came out you had to buy it to play the long list of games coming down the pipeline. Series consoles have been re-masters and FPS boost games. I still don't know why I bothered buying one and not carry on using the Xbox one.

My load times are faster playing Gears 5 and that's about it. I should have carried on with the one and got a PS5 to play exclusives.

It’s too big to thing to confirm it in a Tweet as they will want to put some positive spin on the situation. But the fact he didn’t try and deny anything does speak volumes I think.
What are we thinking they’ll confirm? Exiting hardware or just releasing games for other platforms?

Next week, lol. That’s 1 week more of rumour and speculation, even if it is mostly all true, why can’t they confirm/deny stuff now.
So basically, it's true. Xbox plans to host it's games on other platforms including Playstation. If this rumour was complete hogwash, he'd just come out and say that. This statement from Phil Spencer is pure corporate BS ; it's what isn't said that is telling.

I then have to wonder what value there is in owning an Xbox console if I can consolidate my digital/physical game library on just one platform ( the PS5 ). For me personally, if these rumours are correct I can see myself selling my Series X and just going all in on my PS5 ( and the Switch successor when it arrives ). I will probably also upgrade the GPU on my PC and start buying more games on Steam again, plus consider purchasing a Steam Deck OLED for those times when I want to lounge on my sofa to play a PC game rather than sit in my man cave.

I feel sorry for those folk who have built up a large library of games on Xbox. What happens to them in the future if Xbox consoles become extinct ? Will they be lost forever, or will they be accessible through Games Pass subscription ?

I don't think they'll explicitly state they are exiting the console making business. That would be financial suicide. Then again, even announcing that their 1st party games will be hosted on Playstation will cause a flood of consumers to abandon ship to team Blue.

I'll be another that jumps ship to PlayStation when my gamepass expires this October. I've been thinking about it anyway. My gut feeling is Xbox will go cloud only with no more physical consoles.

If I was Sony, next week I'd be discounting my console. Then again I might put it up £50 :D

I still wouldn't sell my xbox, what's the point. I'd get the urge to play some of the games I've owned for years and end up buying a second hand one. I would get a Playstation as much as it would break my heart to have to lose using the xbox controller, but I only really want to play Last of Us and Spider-Man. Nothing else interests me. I only really dabble with a few gamepass games and play Gears Of War PVE.

I think they that they will go almost full multi-plat but still keep the physical console as a option for those that want it. Going multi-plat+cloud gaming at this stage would kill the brand dead.

I think physical Xbox games are going to die very soon and any games that they put on PlayStation won't get a physical release.

Because at the end of the day physical games goes against the grain in what they want to do, so I think they are going to use this massive shakeup to kill them off.

I don't have as much investment in the Xbox ecosystem - I only jumped on the bandwagon with a Series X in late 2021, primarily to play Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. Those titles, and some of the others I bought, are "play anywhere" so I can still access them on my PC. What worries me, though, is if Xbox does move to a cloud/subscription service model, abandoning console manufacture entirely, that leaves Sony/Playstation with a monopoly. That can't be a good thing for the consumer, right ?

They still have Nintendo as limiter, surely they can't out Nintendo, Nintendo when it comes to prices... Surely.

I agree, this is almost certainly what they are going to announce next week - going down the multi-platform route. On one hand, that's great that more people will be able to access their games, but it will kill Xbox console sales stone dead. Unless someone has a massive library of games from the Xbox 360 era etc, what would be the point in owning a Series X/S ?

True, Nintendo will still exist ... and thrive. But they aren't competing in quite the same space. Nintendo will continue to dominate the hybrid/handheld market, but Playstation will be the only entity in the ( monolithic ) home console market. If rumours are true, it sounds like Sony may be making a new PS Vita to tap into the handheld arena, which would have them competing directly with Nintendo. Let's see what happens if that materialises.

I don't disagree and it'll be interesting to see what's announced and the route they take but I can't help but think they will look to leverage Azure heavily in the future

Xbox 360 had a good run I've always had both consoles on each generation but xbox one, series s and X any models in-between didn't deliver for me very poor.. even though series X has slightly better hardware than ps5 many games have been running better on ps5. It's almost like developers spend most of there time on the popular console ps5 then port it over onto the Xbox?
