$499 + taxes is equal to about £456. But we're getting the Series S for ~$30 less than the yanks. So I don't think £429 is out of the question. Certainly starting to look like <£450 is likely.

Windows Central seem to be reporting the $499 price and 10th November release date as basically being facts at this stage. So I guess they're pretty confident in the credibility of the leaks (buoyed, no doubt, by official confirmation that the Series S stuff is correct).

The one x cannot play any of the new games coming out as the increase in cpu and ssd performance in the series s is immense.

The GPU in both has a similar level of performance.

Which games? Im only aware of The Medium that's a next gen exclusive and that's listed as Series X so that might not be on the Series S.
 
This is very interesting to see now it's out in the wild. There is total confusion on Instagram as to what exactly the Series S is. Some people are saying they would pick that model because it fits better in their TV display set up, unaware that it is different power to Series X. What a job MS has on their hands now.

But I'm ecstatic about the price. Using my reward points in November will make it £180-odd quid for a machine that is going to play games for the next 7 years without requiring any upgrades! Total bargain.
 
I thought ALL games were going to be compatible across the Xbox family of consoles for a few years at least, is this not the case? Anything officially announced about this?

It's a 1080p-focussed Series X.

So basically a Series X with less RAM and a less powerful GPU (and, seemingly, no disc drive). This should result in the same game experience, but at a lower resolution.

Or to flip it another way, Series S is to One S what Series X is to One X. S is the 1080p console. X is the 4K console. For those of us who haven't yet upgraded to 4K, this is the next gen (but at a ~£200 saving).

Only first/second party games. Third party can do what they want.

The statement they made only mentioned games made by Microsoft studios.

All games from Xbox Game Studios will work across Xbox One/S/X and Xbox Series S/X for at least the first year following the launch of Series S/X.

So if the S/X release date is the 10th November 2020, as rumoured, XGS could launch an S/X exclusive title any time from the 11th November 2021, onward.

I expect they have their first next gen game pegged for some time in 2022, hence the vagueness about current gen support. This far out, the release date of that title could vary by months.
 
So I'm wondering what happens with regards to backward compatibility. Does it play Xbone games in the "S" mode or the "X" mode? Does it output at 4K even though it's running games at 1080p? Does it upscale Xbox 360 games to 4K or leave them at 720p?
