XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

I'm finding that loosing your experienced troops on Classic is an instant loss for the campaign. Twice I've had a decent squad going only to get ambushed by several dangerous spawns at once and that's game over. Once I lose my best troops I can't complete any missions since the rookies panic the second a flea touches them and end up shooting each other. I couldn't even pick any easy missions because the game didn't offer me any easy ones.

Don't build up just a single 'best' squad. Rotate troops as much as you can so that when you do wipe, the backups have at least a few kills and skills under their belts.

yeah it is essential to rotate! ....if you find yourself with an easyish mission, drop a few rookies/lower ranks in.....I lost a heavy Col. who had been with me right from the start, and I regarded him my best soldier by a mile. I raged a bit but luckily I had a Heavy captain to replace him;). I have lost an entire high-ranking squad twice in my playthrough.

If my sniper that I have had since the start died(48 missions, 123 kills) diess, I will go spare though:p(though again I do have 2 other high ranking snipers).

Certainly could be easier to install that's for sure. It seems to have got more complicated as well. There are more steps now than there were at the start. Worth it though.

Yup, Classic Ironman is too bruising for me without Warspace, tbh.

A difficulty setting between Normal and Classic would be my sweet-spot I guess.

Classic is pretty easy after the first couple months.

Impossible is brutal at the start, but people say it gets just as easy at the end game. I never made it past the first month on I/I, even tho I've beaten C/I comfortably.

To the guy who asked about the evac zone: if you can't see it, you're bugged. Quitting and reloading the mission should fix it.

One disappointing thing about X:EU is the sheer number of bugs.

Well after many, many games 'messing about' RP-ing various Classic Ironman campaigns and whatnot, I finally got around to assaulting the alien base. :o

Cake walk/kerb stomp really.

Now on to the next stage. Whatever that is.

I ended up getting this game :D
It's too addictive :)

I have bought 11 games in the past 2 weeks and since getting XCOM haven't touched any of the others.

Recently bought XCOM, such a brilliant game!

Except...

Cpl. Nelson takes a reaction shot!
Rk. Hughes takes a reaction shot!
Cpl. Grant takes a reaction shot!

Got the game for Christmas and started playing on my last day off before a run of shifts. A mistake.

Really enjoying it so far. I'm only playing on Normal at the moment though it's game 5 as I've been tinkering and learning and getting it wrong. Very happy with this game though.

*****SPOILER WARNING******
I tried leveling up after buying the perk in the officer training school that gives a boost to will at every level, I thought it would increase the chance but after leveling a whole squad of six from sqd. to col. not one with the gift, yet I put in first rank squadies & got two gifted WTF.

I have noticed this also; I now start screening recruits as rookies as the difference higher willpower makes seems to be negligible.

Really pleased with my game right now. I got to the end of Month 2 last night before calling it a night.

8 satellites up, 6 squad members, double healing speed, decent team.

Now the race is on to dig down and across to the steam vent to get enough power to get another uplink done before the end of the month. I don;t think I'll manage it. Should have got the digging done earlier.
