Xperia Z1 Compact... finally the holy grail for "normal sized" phone enthusiasts?

I was just skiing in Davos, and it's so nice to have a pone that you can get out on the middle of the slopes, in wet and snowy conditions, and not have to worry at all about using or dropping it. Also, the battery is a trooper... I got through an entire day of use with the GPS and ski tracking program on for 5
1 hours (it constantly monitors your route, speed and progress), as well as constant messaging and screen on time to keep track of the people I was with, and still ended the day with 40-50%.

The phone is smooth as silk due to the power. The camera is great outdoors, like a real point and shoot, but indoors is not its strength, and the flash is weak.

Lack of Qi charging is also an annoyance, as is the plastic back, but these are by no means more than irritations rather than deal breakers.

I was going to ask how others are finding the battery? I find it amazing coming from an iPhone 4S but I do find it drops from 100% to 90 very quickly. It then seems to stabilise

Apart from that, and it might just be me, its a top phone...

Hi sam

How you finding it to adapt from your iPhone to the Xperia?

Just wanted to some feedback on this, as I am thinking off ordering...

I've literally forgotten all about my iPhone! I love the Sony - it really is a top bit of kit. If in doubt, try it out - I had a play in CPW before committing ;)

I thought there would be a bit of a transition but if you're familiar with android already you'll have nothing to worry about. It's nice to have a top phone that you can still fit in your pocket...

I compared this phone to mine on gsmarena and the measurements are almost identical, strange to think of mine as 'compact' (I have the xperia S )

let's hope they can sort out the flash issues, in general I am a sony fan.

Just got the Z1c.

Initial impression coming from an iPhone 5S:
Battery great
Love the look and feel
I like the Sony skin too

Will update with more over time...

Has anyone added screen protector to front and back? Any recommendations?

Thanks

That is the shatter protector film, which I understand scratches easily and is only on the front right?

It doesn't protect from shattering, it just prevents small shards of glass coming out if you do shatter the screen. It's on the front and rear of the Z1, but looking at the compact now there is only one only on the front.

Yes, it scratches easily, but it's the same for any plastic screen protector. Having one layer of plastic on there is bad enough, I wouldn't want to add another - in fact I've taken the film off of all my Sony devices because the glass underneath feels and looks nicer, plus is much harder to scratch.

Cheers for the info and advice... I take care of my devices to be honest... Probably being a little OTT here.. Lol!!!

How is the device working for you?

Bit of a strange one but has anyone had experience of using this phone or indeed, any Android device in a car through their stereo? Coming from an iPhone I simply used to plug my phone into my head unit's USB port, the disk would be read and within seconds I would have full 'searchable' access to my entire music library :)

Android compatibility is there it just isn't as straight forward by all accounts. I've tried using this phone through a 3.5mm jack/aux input as a short-term solution and its very quiet...

Got a loaner of the Z1 Compact this morning. I've only got it a days unfortunately, but I'll get a few video's made :)

I'd hoped it was a little smaller than it is if I'm honest, to separate it from the Nexus 5 and other devices of that size.

I think a lot more depends on the car rather than the phone... Both my Android and my webOS phones work in a Mazda 3 both for music and calls, but only the webOS phone works in my mate's Renault. And my sister's iPhone 5 will do calls over bluetooth in her car (a merc b-class), but not music (she has to plug a 3.5mm cable in for that). There's no standards in the car industry and it's a mess.

I think this is going to be my next phone come contract renewal date of the 16th March.

What kind of deals are people going for??

I'm after a 4G deal and at the moment its looking around £30 a month on Vodafone or EE.
