Xperia Z1 Compact... finally the holy grail for "normal sized" phone enthusiasts?

Lack of Qi charging is sadly a complete beeyatch.
I must confess, when I discovered we'd been deceived by the media about it having Qi charging, I was seriously considering sending it back. After a few days I realised that it actually doesn't matter very much to me, as I haven't needed to charge it during the day - I just dump it in the dock when I go to bed. So, while the lack of Qi charging was disappointing, it turned out not to be a deal breaker for me after all.

It's not a deal breaker of course, but it is highly irritating considering he charging port is covered by a flap.

I ended up ordering the phone, but for whatever reason the numpties I ordered it from would only deliver the phone to my billing address. The sales rep I spoke with said he would ring me back to change the delivery address after processing the upgrade. He never did.....It's a good job i'm not in a hurry to get it.

It's good to hear about the camera, I wont use it much, but I find when I do use a phone camera its usually indoors with poor lighting.

As has already been mentioned the only reason this phone caught my eye is because it seems to be the only 'smaller phone' with decent specs other than the iPhone. I don't really want a bigger phone than my current HTC One S and this is the only phone available that wouldn't feel like a sidegrade to me.

Mine's just arrived :)

It came with what I think is a screen protector in the case. Is this optional or necessary for waterproofness??? :)

I don't normally bother with screen protectors coz the glass is so good these days. And i don't have random things in the pocket with the phone ! :)

I'm looking at getting the Z1C, do they still have issues some people have reported with the camera images being discoloured (e.g. green hue in an earlier post) and with low voice call quality or have these been addressed?

My contract ends next month and I had a call today asking about a renewal. The guy asked me what phones I was interested in, I said I had no idea as I hadn't really thought about it and I'm a bit out of the loop as far as phones are concerned.

I had a quick look at phones currently on the market as well as upcoming models and this phone seems to be the one best suited to me as it's fast and no bigger than my current One S. How are owners of this phone finding it? The main concern for me is that its reliable, I haven't owned a Sony phone in a long time.

Lovely bit of kit if you don't like talking into massive plates on your face. The camera with the new update is particularly impressive, especially in good light.

Has anyone had any issue with the phone locking up/freezing on them? Its happened to me the last couple of nights now... I've been browsing the menus and it just slows down and becomes unresponsive and laggy. Barely usable! I have to shut down and turn on again, after that its fine :(

Its literally only just started happening.

Brother ordered one and it arrived yesterday morning. Charged it over the night and discovered the power button doesn't work. Also tried booting into recovery (vol up + USB) and flash mode (vol down + USB) but that didn't work as well. So I guess all the hardware keys are dead... Hopefully giffgaff will be very quick in fixing/replacing it, he's getting fed up of his 4S :p.

This phone is really annoying me now, constant notifications about power saving tips and games i should play. How do you stop them?

The image quality in low light if you use manual mode is fine.

It's only on superior auto does it get over processed.

It's fixable with software, certain of it.

Have you got any recommended manual settings for say indoors at dusk?

There is a setting for that somewhere, can't remember where though, I'm guessing you are an OK clicker without reading what you are clicking OK for, becuase the phone asks you if you want those tips when you first set it up.

Right, so in the end giffgaff couldn't get any replacements so they refunded my brother and he bought it from Amazon in the end, but made me buy it since his recent e-shopping experience seems to be on a bad luck stroll. It's at my place now and will be giving it to him tomorrow, so thought I would take this chance to flash KK on it (phone + PC companion says no update avaliable).

The question is... which firmware do I flash? I see there's a commercial one and a generic one, what are the difference between the two? I don't remember it being this confusing...

On the other hand, been using this chance to play around with it. I guess I really do have a soft spot for Sony devices, it feels pretty nice in my hands compared to my HTC One and some of the Sony features actually look pretty good compared to Sense.
