Yeah I'm confused by the same thing too. The auction site sellers say the HD5850 is not compatible with the monitors, (quite worrying), YET the Sapphire has 2 Dual Link DVI ports on it, (DVI-I),... so why do the sellers say that it's not compatible with these monitors even though they're dual link DVI? Is it because the DVI-I is incompatible with DVI-D in some way? I read on the Answers site that it CAN work without any expensive kit, just use a regular DVI-D-to-DVI-D cable - can someone clarify? There seems to be lots of conflicting info,...... :(

It does specify that it will work only with DVI-D which is why I think the 5850 is listed as being incompatible. However some manufacturers do their own thing, and I've noticed some 5850 users on other forums quite happily running this monitor.

I just want a cheapo graphics card that will let me see BIOS and be ok for usual multimedia stuff - don't intend on gaming on it.

Zoomee - do you know how they got their HD5850's to work with these monitors? Thanks. :)

I have a 5850 in my draw, I will chuck it in and see if it works. It should do as it has a dual link Dvi...

From AMD site about 5850

Integrated dual-link DVI output with HDCP

Max resolution: 2560x1600

DVI-I has the analogue pins as well. The Korean monitors only use the dual link digital pins so a DVI-D lead on a DVI-I socket is fine. As long as your card supports a Dual link connection it will be fine which the 5850 does. You would use a DVI-D to DVI-D cable which does not have the 4 analogue pins.

Moogleys -- thank you. I await with baited breath. :) Can I ask, which 5850 is it? Does it have 2 x DVI-I ports, the same as my Sapphire Radeon HD5850?

If so, and it works, you will have helped me and lots of other 5850 users. :) Thanks man, much appreciated.

It's a reference card from when they first came out and it has 2 dual link DVI-I ports. (edit - I think one might be single and one dual if I remember ?)

Just shoe-horning it into the wifes Dell and will have it running in a jiffy..

Same as this

Right had fun getting it in and with a few power adapters we are there....

Good and bad news, Yes it works displays perfect @ 2560x1440 60hz reported so all good there. It also works in both DVI ports so both must be dual link. The bad is the card did not display anything from the bios at all, no post screen and no bios screen if enter is pushed. Once in windows it works perfect. ?? Could be an old bios on the card it is one I pulled from an upgrade and kept as a spare so it will more than likely still be on the stock original release bios ?

Hope it helps...

That's what I suspected might happen Moogleys, so not having access to the BIOS would be a bad thing as I have no spare monitor if I need to access it - though I could get a very cheap one I suppose.

It was very good of you to set it up to test it for me/us, (those of us with HD5850 cards). Thanks for your help, very considerate of you. I bought my card in April/May 2010 from here at OCUK, (great card folks!), so am not sure what BIOS the card had/has - I'll need to get the monitor set up first to find out. I think I'm going to invest in a Crossover unless I see another reason not to. :) I can't immediately think of any other questions at the moment but knowing my luck I'll think of something before too long.

I'm using a 1gb ATI 6450 card with mine, fine for desktop stuff. can't comment on how well it does movies as I don't use it for that.
As well as being cheap, benefits are also low power consumption and most (all?) models are fanless so quiet as well.

edit: can't comment on the bios issue, as monitor is attached to 2nd graphics card in the PC and bios only shows up on the primary card

Just as a possible solution, if you have onboard graphics that might do the trick. My homeserver with an Asrock A780GM-LE motherboard for example has dual-link DVI connection on it.
Mooley also posted before that he got an image using a console I think? So even if your motherboard only has a single link DVI (or even HDMI) it could still be used. Don't really need a high res BIOS after all.

It's a bit wierd this one, as when I first got my 7970 - it never used to show the BIOS screen. After using it for a month god knows what happened but it started showing the BIOS all by itself! >enter confuzzled smiley<

About to order crossover from AW and have few questions. Gonna use VESA arm but people on here say monitor doesn't have a back for the screws ......can somebody please explain . Also what sort of gpu power is needed to max out games at this resolution . Thanks for your help :)

Hi Oggiet, as far as I am aware, the Crossover does have holes for screws to attach your VESA arm, but I am not quite sure what you mean when you say, "a back for the screws",.. I am pretty sure you can use a VESA mount on these Crossover monitors, just be careful with the screws, make 100% sure they do NOT touch the PCB on the inside of the monitor unless you want a dead monitor due to a short-circuit. ;) My advice would be to use the screws that came with the monitor to attach your VESA arm instead of any others, (which may be too long thus inadvertently touching the PCB on the inside).

I hope that helps.

Cheers mate. If you look at post 1776 he says it has no back, not sure what he means. Does it mean it has no silver piece that moogley posted in his picture?

Depends on your ideal framerate and what kind of games you play. If you want more than 60fps nothing less than SLI/Crossfire of 2 top-end cards will be upto the job. 30-60fps is easily doable on a single GTX670/HD7970.

Was thinking of going for sli 670 4gb cards but not sure a out short pcb's. If only 4gb 680's would come out .

To 4 of you folk here who each have one of the brands, (Achieva, Catleap, Crossover and CBank), could you all take us a picture of the VESA mounting holes from outside the back? (Turn monitor around, take a snap). Just so they're all in one place so we can all make a localised comparison. :) I know the Catleap obscures the holes with its silver arc at the rear but what are the rest like? Please make it clear which brand the picture is of, thanks. :) At the moment, my heart is on the Crossover. :D

I recieved my Crossover 2720MDP GOLD this morning only had time to set it up and give it a quick test on Pc and Xbox, pics will do it no justice. I have not notice any dead or stuck pixels or any of this blueness but I need to have a proper check later.

I had to go to work so I'll post up some pics later. Spartacus the back looks similarlish ;) to the PCBANK no metal back on this on due to the multiple ports.
